Chapter 2 Bourbon Feels He's in Trouble
It was almost a month later that Furuya Rei met Akiyama Kanade again. He became a student of Maori Kogoro in order to investigate him, and worked as a clerk in the Poirot Cafe under Maori Detective Agency. On this day, Maori Kogoro received an invitation from a wealthy man to go to his villa to crack a code for him.
As a disciple, Furuya Rei - or perhaps he should be called Amuro Toru - naturally followed him. Also traveling with him were Maori Kogoro's daughter Maori Ran, and the little boy Edogawa Conan who was staying at the Maori family.
When they arrived, they were told that the rich man was in the study, and he did not respond to the housekeeper's notification that guests had arrived. Everyone found it strange, so Amuro Toru used his skills to help pry open the lock, but found that the rich man was lying on the floor of the study, covered in blood, with vase fragments scattered around him, and he had been dead for a long time.
It was at this time that Akiyama Kanade appeared. It is not quite appropriate to say that he appeared, he was discovered by everyone.
Next to the corpse of the rich man was a long sofa, behind which a row of bookcases had fallen down, forming a triangle between the bookcases, the sofa and the floor. When Akiyama Kanade was found, he was sleeping soundly in the triangle, and even though half of his body was pressed by the bookcases, it did not break his daytime dream.
After waking the man up, the young man raised his arms in confusion and rubbed his eyes with his snow-white fingers. "What...what's wrong? Is it time for dinner?"
He put down his hand and saw the body beside him. He then looked up at the crowd standing in a circle and looking at him with strange eyes. Suddenly, he realized, "Oh, you want me to bury the body? It doesn't matter. Although it is not a business area I am familiar with, I will definitely try my best!"
"You are the criminal!" Kogoro Mouri quickly started his reasoning show, pointing a finger at Akiyama Kanade's nose, which made the latter tilt his head and blink in confusion.
"That...you, your arm..." The kind-hearted Mao Li Ran ignored the question of whether the young man was the murderer, and horrifiedly reminded him to pay attention to his wrist that was twisted at an abnormal angle - probably because it was hit by the bookcase.
"Oh, don't worry about it, it will be fine tomorrow." Akiyama Kanade gently twisted her wrist back with her other hand and smiled softly at Mao Lilan. The freckles on her cheeks looked particularly cute. "But thank you for your reminder. You are so nice, I like you."
Mao Lilan's face turned red.
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Mouri Kogoro was instantly furious, and the little boy Edogawa Conan also glared with his eyes bloodshot.
How dare this bastard——!
Akiyama Kanade looked at Amuro Toru, who had been pretending that he didn't exist, and called out in a gentle and cheerful voice, "Isn't this Mr. Amuro? It's great to see you here again."
"Hmm? Did you know each other before?" Kogoro Mouri's suspicious eyes jumped between the two of them like a grasshopper.
Before Akiyama could say anything, Toru Amuro immediately explained, "Mr. Akiyama once asked me to help him find something he had lost, so we are acquainted."
Even if he had a good relationship with the detective, he could not get rid of the hatred that Akiyama had committed murder. Whoever asked him to do so would show up at the murder scene.
"It's impossible for a normal person to sleep in a scene with such a strong smell of blood. Even if he fell asleep, he couldn't wake up after being hit by a bookcase. This must be his disguise!" Maori Kogoro talked in front of everyone. "The fact is that he had a conflict with the deceased, and he accidentally killed the deceased with a vase in impulse. At this time, he heard footsteps in the corridor and had no time to escape, so he came up with this disguise full of loopholes!"
After the rich man died, his wife, who was a poor actor even when she cried, immediately agreed: "That's definitely the case. Mr. Maori is amazing! He figured out the truth so quickly... My poor Dana-san!"
Akiyama Kanade yawned slowly.
"Why are you here?" Amuro Toru asked him.
The butler explained: "Akiyama-kun is our newly hired servant, who is responsible for cleaning the courtyard."
"Servant?" Toru Amuro thought he had heard it wrong and looked up and down at Akiyama Kanade.
Akiyama Kanade pulled out a black hoodie from somewhere and put it on over his head. When he raised his arms, the hem of the white shirt pulled up, revealing his snow-white abdomen, with his strong abdominal muscles vaguely visible.
His voice came out muffled from his hoodie.
"Well, I'm here to experience life."
The hoodie is put on, and the voice and smile become clear.
"To better play life."
He pretended to sweep with a broom, huffing and puffing, and occasionally raised one hand to wipe the sweat from his face.
"Then why are you sleeping here?" Amuro Toru ignored his weird words and strange movements and continued to ask.
"Of course it's because the carpets here are the softest!" Akiyama Kanade answered obediently. He leaned close to Amuro Toru's ear and whispered stealthily, covering his lips with his snow-white hand. "The carpets here were specially bought from Persia by the master. They are as comfortable as clouds when you lie on them. I often come here to sleep."
"The matter is already very clear, and the criminal has been caught. Once the police arrive and take the criminal away, it will be over." Maori Kogoro grabbed the hand of the deceased's widow, "My beautiful lady, please accept my condolences."
The young housekeeper also wiped away tears: "I never thought that Qiu Shanjun would do such a thing. The master was so kind to him."
"That's not the case." Akiyama Kanade pouted in grievance, "I wouldn't kill someone--"
"Mr. Maori is right, so before the police come, I think we should lock him up first to prevent him from escaping." Amuro Toru looked like he agreed with Maori Kogoro's reasoning, turned around and pushed Akiyama Kanade out, "Please stay alone for a while, and you can tell the police if you have anything to say."
Kogoro Mori was very happy that his disciple was so wise.
"You have the potential to be the next famous detective!"
In order to prevent Akiyama Kanade from saying anything nonsense uncontrollably, Amuro Toru decided to act quickly and solve the case as soon as possible.
When Conan Edogawa saw that Ran Mouri prepared an external ointment for Kanade Akiyama out of concern and the latter smiled at her with her eyebrows raised, he felt the same way.
Damn it! We must not let this vixen continue to deceive Xiaolan!
The two of them were full of enthusiasm and worked hard to find out the truth almost at the same time. When Amuro Toru was about to test whether Maori Kogoro had found anything, Edogawa Conan had already secretly anesthetized him with an anesthetic needle.
Inspector Megure, who was already at the scene, had his eyes light up, "Brother Mori, you have already——"
Toru Amuro looked inquiringly at Kogoro Mori who suddenly sat crookedly on the sofa.
The first thing the other person said was: "Lan, stay away from that brat!"
Although Mao Lilan took a few steps obediently, she still hesitated and said, "...Dad, I don't think Mr. Akiyama is the murderer."
Akiyama Kanade immediately smiled widely and nodded vigorously: "Yeah, it's not me."
Conan Edogawa, who was hiding behind the sofa, gritted his teeth and said, "...The criminal is definitely not this brat."
With the help of Kogoro Mori, Conan Edogawa told the truth bit by bit.
It turns out that the young butler was the one who actually killed the rich man. He used a bookcase, a vase and ice cubes to make a timer to prove his alibi. Akiyama Kanade's presence at the scene was just an accident. The butler didn't expect that someone would sneak into the carpet in the study and sleep.
As for the reason——
"Because the deceased's wife actually had an affair with the butler, but the deceased found out about it and even wanted to divorce his wife. However, once divorced, the wife would not be able to get the huge inheritance, and the butler would also be ruined, so the two of them killed him."
"Mr. Maori's reasoning is very interesting," the young butler laughed, "but what basis do you have to say that my wife and I have an affair? You don't have any evidence, right? Even if I killed the person, it is my own business and has nothing to do with my wife."
"I'm sorry," Akiyama Kanade raised his hand and said gently and politely, "I accidentally saw it."
Everyone's eyes were drawn to him like a magnet.
"What have you seen?" asked Conan Maori.
"That's it--" Akiyama Kanade looked around, and pretended to put his arms around Mao Li Ran's waist, as if he was going to bend down and kiss her.
"You, you little brat, what are you doing! Stop it! No, shut up!" Conan Maori's voice rose three degrees in anger and stabbed at Akiyama Kanade like a dagger.
Akiyama Kanade stopped moving, looking confused and aggrieved, and raised his head, "...didn't you ask me what I saw?" He lowered his head and looked at Mao Lilan, his blood-red eyes slightly waving with a bright light, "I'm sorry, did I offend you?"
He withdrew his hand and took a step back.
Mao Lilan waved her hands quickly, "Not at all, Mr. Akiyama, don't mind it."
In fact, the other party did not even touch her waist. Mao Lilan could feel his restraint and consideration. Moreover... Moreover, Mr. Akiyama was so handsome when he was seen from close up, with white skin, ruby eyes, and cute freckles on his cheeks, just like the little prince in a fairy tale.
Mao Lilan was admiring Mr. Akiyama with a purely aesthetic appreciation.
If there is a chance, she will definitely introduce him to Sonoko, Mao Lilan secretly swore in her heart.
"Ahem," Maori Conan was still very unhappy, "Please don't do this kind of demonstration with women without permission, it's very rude."
Akiyama Kanade suddenly realized something and tapped his palms, "I understand."
As soon as Toru Amuro heard his cheerful words, he felt something was wrong. As soon as he withdrew his gaze from Maori Kogoro, Akiyama Kanade grabbed his waist firmly and leaned his head towards him.
Akiyama Kanade is slightly taller than Amuro Toru, and can look the latter in the eye by slightly lowering her eyelids.
Amuro Toru pulled his head away with a headache, "It's OK, no need for you to demonstrate!"
With Akiyama Zou's testimony, the affair between the housekeeper and the lady was confirmed. The two of them turned pale when Akiyama Zou started talking, but in the final analysis, the only one who had actual evidence to prove that the housekeeper was involved in the murder was the housekeeper. Whether the lady played any role in it or not, no one else could tell except the person involved.
After solving the case and handing the real criminal over to Inspector Megure, Mori and his party were about to leave. After leaving, Amuro Toru found that Akiyama Kanade did not follow him out. After thinking for a while, he said goodbye to Mr. Mori and returned to the villa. He found Akiyama Kanade squatting in a corner with a hat on and growing mushrooms.
Akiyama Kanade raised her eyes and glanced at him, and even her sighing voice was gentle and sweet, "I'm unemployed again. I'm so pitiful. I have no money to eat."
Amuro Toru looked at him speechlessly: "Where is the money the organization gave you?"
"I met an old lady half a month ago. She wanted to jump into the river, saying that her son had a terminal illness and had no money to treat it. I gave her some money. Two days later, she came to me again and said that the first operation was very successful and she needed a second one. This time the operation would cost more, so I gave her another large sum."
This is totally a lie, right?
"…So you have no money?"
"That's not the case. How could I be so stupid as not to save some for myself?" Akiyama Kanade looked quite proud. "I used the remaining money to buy a few bombs on the black market and took them to the suburbs to blow them up for fun."
He raised his head and said softly to Amuro Toru, "I still have a few left. If you want, I can give them to you."
