Chapter 19: It's Great to Be Rich
When the spring of 1895 came, the residents of the northern United States clearly felt that this year's spring seemed to come later, which was in sharp contrast to the warm and pleasant spring breeze in Texas. However, the cool breeze was also accompanied by the stirring patriotism.
The federal government and governments at all levels are doing their utmost to make the people understand that the current economic depression is not due to the incompetence of our army, but rather the cunningness of the British army. Our poor friend of the United States and our close partner in the Americas, Venezuela, is now being bullied by European imperialism.
What does this have to do with the economic depression? It has a lot to do with it. Once the British Empire is deeply embedded in Latin America, the United States' goods and business opportunities will no longer have the possibility of going south. All American products will be consumed internally, and the United States will naturally become a weak country.
And those who are considered successful in the United States have also said that once they lose the vast American market and their close partners in the lower hemisphere, the economic depression may last for a long time.
In the face of major issues, there is no distinction between north and south, and we are all members of the United States. Although we usually have to distinguish between Yankees and Dixies, at this time, the interests of all parties are the same.
Sheffield boarded the train from Arlington, transferred to Dallas, and then headed south to Austin to continue his limited studies. In the middle, he wanted to go to Habsburg to see how the gun factory operated by his family was doing, but after thinking about it, he gave up.
No one knows who planned this family business. In Sheffield's eyes, there is only one word that can be seen from this layout: greed. From Austin to Houston, and then to San Antonio, with its base in Arlington between Dallas and Fort Worth, it seems that the old man has successfully gathered the top three basketball teams in Texas.
This layout is not surprising. It should be the masterpiece of his grandfather who was killed by the butterfly effect instigated by the Space-Time Administration. He wants to gain a foothold in whatever is good and famous, without considering the local resource allocation at all.
The journey was uneventful. Sheffield was not a man with bad habits, and he cooperated well with the group of bodyguards who followed him to protect his heirs. After all, he was a polite man, and he was full of respect for these private forces who had been taken in and raised by his family because their fathers had died on the battlefield.
Sometimes I think about this method of raising orphans to serve oneself. It seems that only one famous historical figure has done this, and that person was Dzerzhinsky, the head of both the Cheka and the Soviet Union's orphan relief department.
The University of Texas is a general term, with branches in many cities such as Dallas, Arlington and Austin. Sheffield could actually go to school in Arlington, but he went to Austin because it is the capital of Texas. All the political institutions of Texas are there, which is a very special status.
As a local boss in the state, Sheffield had no choice in where to go to school because the circle was there. Especially in the United States, how could an entrepreneur not have his own spokesperson?
"The British are really too much of a bully. They are bullying the whole world and now they want to contain the United States. I really want to join the army immediately and give them a good beating."
"They just want to blockade us. In fact, they are heading for the United States. Now the newspapers are talking about the economic depression. Many people are saying that this is a capital attack launched by the British."
Sitting not far from each other, the two men spoke to each other and made tearful accusations against imperialism.
"It's true that you can blame the British for having diarrhea after eating. But it makes sense when you think about it." Sheffield took out his pocket watch, calculated the time to arrive at the station, and listened to the simple people of the United States expressing their patriotic feelings.
"Master, do you want me to go talk to them?" Seeing Sheffield looking at his watch frequently, the bodyguard opposite him thought that the noise was too loud and disturbed Sheffield's rest.
"That's not necessary!" Sheffield indicated that it was okay. Some people boasted because they wanted to attract everyone's attention, while some people were just born to like discussing current affairs. As for the two men who were fully engaged diagonally opposite, they did not belong to the above types. They were just very simple stupid.
It is right to blame Britain. If we don’t blame Britain, should we tell them that the current bad domestic economy is due to the collusion between the top figures in the North and the South?
Austin is the capital of Texas. It is named after Austin, the founder of the Lone Star Republic. It is undoubtedly the political center of the entire Texas. Naturally, the students of the University of Texas at Austin are recruited with an attitude of continuous improvement.
The Austin campus is naturally home to a large number of children of Texas elites, from congressmen to mayors, so it has become the ideal place for many students. For ordinary students to enter the Austin campus, they are already extraordinary.
"Sister, one day I will also go to school in this school!" On the street opposite the school gate, a boy who looked to be about seventeen or eighteen years old, led his sister who was three or four years younger than him, and said with a longing look.
"Brother will definitely achieve his goal since you are such a good student!" The little girl with smooth blonde hair clenched her fists to encourage.
A carriage approached quickly with a rhythmic sound, and just when the two noticed it, the sound stopped abruptly, showing the coachman's superb skills. The door was opened, and a black back got off first, followed by Sheffield, who was holding the rope, and then slowly raised his legs. He was wearing a suit and a bow tie, and then he saw the two uninvited guests.
Sheffield was about to speak out of politeness, but was accused by the boy, "You scared my sister."
A sister complex? Sheffield immediately gave up the idea of asking, stretched out his finger to push his glasses, and a pair of eyes behind the lenses appeared, and asked with a scrutinizing attitude, "It seems that you were not touched? Are you making a fuss?"
"Can you guarantee that your carriage won't hit anyone? What if it does?" The boy seemed irritated by this attitude and continued to insist.
"Let's talk about it later if we bump into each other. It's not like we can't afford to pay for it." Sheffield waved his hand impatiently, "You delayed my return to school."
"Is it so great to be rich? How can you treat others like this?"
"I'm sorry, having money really allows you to do whatever you want, but you can't feel this." Sheffield yawned and said in a very sincere tone, then his eyes fell on the boy's sister, staring at her for a long time before saying, "Your sister is very beautiful, just consider it my apology. I am a polite person. If you want to go to this school in the future, you can say that you know me. My name is William Sheffield, but now? You can't get in. Even my black back can get in."
"I'll remember you!" the boy shouted with great determination, as if his fighting spirit was aroused.
"Okay, don't look down on the poor young man. Got it. Bye!" Sheffield raised his hand and walked into the Austin campus holding the German Shepherd's hand.
"Sheffield!" The girl reached out and lifted the ends of her hair, her eyes following Sheffield's back for a long time.
"It's just that he has a better family background! I'm determined to come here to study in the future." The boy comforted his sister.
In fact, I think he is right! The girl looked at her brother who she admired so much, but she didn't say what was in her heart. The person just now brought his dog directly into the university you admired.
Sorry, it took me a long time to download the familiar software, so I started writing a little late.
