Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Meanwhile, inside the royal palace, Song Chaoyun listened to her subordinate's report. She glanced at the person, frowned, put down her pen, and asked, "Where did you say he went?"

"Your Highness, the border guards are under the jurisdiction of Envoy Song Junwu."

Upon hearing this, Song Chaoyun felt puzzled and wondered, "Where did he go and what was he doing? Have you found out why?"

The person who reported this seemed to think about it very seriously, and said, "I need to find someone."

"Looking for someone?" Song Chaoyun glanced at the unfinished calligraphy on the table, then noticed the outside. His eyes narrowed slightly. Could it be such a coincidence?

Despite her lingering doubts, she immediately sent a message to Song Junwu via carrier pigeon and instructed her subordinates to continue the investigation.

When Qingyun returned home, she saw Yinglian carrying a quilt. Just as she was about to enter the house, she saw her and gave her a very sweet smile, "Miss, you're back."

Qingyun nodded in response, and suddenly he had a feeling of being surrounded by his wife, children and a warm bed. What's going on?!

During the month that Qingyun lived with Yinglian, he felt very comfortable. The girl was so thoughtful and lovable. As soon as he sat down, she put down the bedding and went to the kitchen to bring out the food that had been kept warm in the pot.

Qingyun glanced sideways and noticed the embroidery on the table. She picked it up and examined the pattern carefully, then gently touched it. The texture was delicate and smooth, and she was truly impressed. "Your craftsmanship is truly excellent," she couldn't help but exclaim.

Hearing Qingyun's praise, Yinglian quickly said that she was just doing it to pass the time, and besides, she also wanted to have some ideas and wanted to supplement her family's income with this. Just as she put down the bowl and chopsticks in her hand, she seemed to remember something, turned around and started rummaging through the clothes, and then took out a few pieces of clothing. "These are the spring clothes I made for you. If I remember correctly, they should still be your size."

Upon hearing this, Qingyun quickly put the food in his chopsticks into his mouth, then immediately stood up and took the clothes. The fabric was brightly colored, and it was obvious that it must have cost a lot of money. Although he was supporting Yinglian, he didn't give her any extra pocket money. He immediately realized that she had bought it with her own money.

Qingyun held the clothes up to herself, twirled around happily a few times, thanked him, and then asked, "Did you make it for yourself?"

Yinglian nodded upon seeing this, saying that she had one too.

Qingyun didn't stand on ceremony with her. Having spent so much time with people, she knew that Yinglian was still resentful about living under someone else's roof and always wanted to do something for him to put her mind at ease. In fact, she wanted to tell Yinglian that if it weren't for her, this house, which was as big as a toilet, would have been no warmth for her at all, and her life would have been like a drifting duckweed.

System: [Host, could you please stop making fun of your home as a toilet?]

Qingyun chuckled upon hearing this. "That's exactly right."

"I haven't seen Lin Wanjun much lately. Where has she gone again?" Qingyun asked Mu Helian, carrying a hoe.

Mu Helian's scar twitched a few times, as if she was considering whether to speak. Sensing that "hidden story" look on her face, Qingyun thought to himself, "Could something bad be about to happen?" But then he thought that Lin Wanjun was with Song Chaohua, so it was unlikely that anything would go wrong.

"What exactly happened?"

Mu Helian stared at Qingyun for a long while, and finally her expression relaxed, revealing a smile, but it was more like a grimace. "Haven't you heard?"

Qingyun was full of questions. What had she heard? Although she was always in the center of gossip, she hadn't heard anything about Lin Wanjun.

"I heard that she's getting married."

Qingyun: "???? Married?! To whom?"

Mu Helian replied, "You've met the Princess's guard, Qin Yao."

Qingyun's first reaction was that these two were up to something. She knew the true relationship between Lin Wanjun and Song Chaohua, so why were they doing this now? Wasn't it said that criminals couldn't marry commoners? Seeing this, she quickly pressed on, "Is she going back to the capital?"

Song Chaoyun went back, didn't she? Although she didn't know the reason behind it, Qingyun still wanted to ask Lin Wanjun in person. She could tell that as long as she didn't pay attention to her for a while, when she asked again, she would definitely have a big secret to tell her.

"Maybe," Mu Helian pondered, looking at Qingyun. "I noticed you and her didn't seem to get along lately, so I didn't tell you."

Upon hearing this, Qingyun's face darkened. With a helpless expression, she said, "We didn't quarrel, but it's hard to say what might happen next." Qin Yao and Lin Wanjun had no connection whatsoever. Seeing this, she even brought up the system to check if the two had any interaction before the original owner was demoted.

[This is strange. What is Song Chaohua trying to do? Is he trying to rescue her from this hellhole in an unconventional way? But who knows if Qin Yao is a hellhole himself!]

Seeing this, the system offered words of comfort: "Why do you always meddle in other people's business?"

Qingyun: [I'm not trying to be nosy, thank you. I just want to know why.]

System: [You're quite curious, aren't you?]

Stop arguing with the system and Qingyun decided to find out for herself, but she couldn't find anyone after searching around. She thought there was only one place left. Because she entered the Commander's Mansion very frequently, the guards no longer stopped her. This suited Qingyun's wishes, saving her from having to sit on the steps like she was squatting on the street waiting for someone to announce her every time.

She had barely entered when she bumped into a man rushing out. Song Junwu was dressed in fine clothes, with several very flamboyant red flowers in his hair. It seemed that this dynasty was just like the Song Dynasty, where men also did this. She unconsciously admired the handsome man's face for a while before she came to her senses that she had come here on important business.

Upon seeing her, Song Junwu stopped in his tracks. Qingyun, seeing this, quickly bowed and explained that she hadn't come to see him.

Seeing this, Song Junwu raised an eyebrow slightly. He clearly remembered that Qingyun and Song Chaohua were not very close. On the contrary, the two would bicker whenever they met. He tossed the things in his hand aside and said with a smile, "Why don't I go with you? I happen to have something to discuss with Her Highness the Princess."

"Sir, you are not..."

Before the servant could finish speaking, he suddenly felt a glare from Song Junwu. Even though Song Junwu was carrying him on his back, he could feel the threat in Song Junwu's eyes with just a slight glance. The servant shuddered and quickly changed his words, "Yes, then I'll go and get the things first and send them to His Highness."

Qingyun watched her masters putting on an act, glancing towards the door. She thought to herself, "They're clearly about to leave, why the sudden change of plans? Are they here to eavesdrop? To watch the show?" But then she thought, "If that brat Song Chaohua is trying to intimidate me, I can use Song Junwu as a shield." So she didn't expose him, momentarily forgetting the difference between men and women.

He grabbed Song Junwu's sleeve and said, "That's good! Come, come, let's go together. If the princess wants to cut off my head, Lord Song, you must protect me. You see, if I'm gone, no one will help you control the desertification. That old man Liu Ruo is so stubborn; he doesn't even know as much as I do..."

Listening to Qingyun's rambling, Song Junwu raised her hand to cover the corner of her lips, finding it extremely amusing, and let the other person pull her forward.

"What, you're looking for help?" Song Chaohua put down her chess piece and looked at the two people walking over. She knew very well that Song Junwu had just left here and was now back. She knew exactly what he meant.

Qingyun could only pretend not to see the eye roll from the other party. Actually, she was also puzzled. They were fine before, so she didn't know what had provoked Song Chaohua to become so hostile towards her.

Before she could even sit down properly, Qingyun's eyes darted left and right, but she couldn't find Lin Wanjun anywhere. Looking at the maid serving tea at the table, she carefully examined the maid's face. Then the two looked at each other, and Qingyun gave a silly, honest smile, which made the maid quickly cover her mouth and walk away with a smile on her face.

"Where is Lin Wanjun?"

Upon hearing this, Song Chaohua paused in his chess game, glanced at her sideways, frowned slightly, and asked, "What do you mean by this?"

Before Qingyun could answer, the other party continued, "Are you here to interrogate me and demand my person back, or do you have some special relationship with her?"

This question stumped her. She nervously rubbed her hands, trying to think of the right words. After a long while, Qingyun, still feeling quite frustrated, cautiously said, "Then I won't ask?"

Song Chaohua: "..."

Song Junwu: "..."

However, judging from the other party's words, he clearly knew where Lin Wanjun was. Seeing the atmosphere suddenly become somber, Qingyun chuckled, scratched his head, picked up his cup and took a sip of tea. In short, he made many small movements before finally continuing, "I just wanted to ask Your Highness. If you don't know, I'll leave."

Song Chaohua: "Speak properly." Meaning, don't imitate the accents of those villagers.

A soft chuckle reached their ears, and then two burning gazes were fixed on each other. Song Junwu straightened his robes, composed himself, and gestured with his hands, "You two continue."

Seeing this, Qingyun stopped with the pretense and asked directly, "Is Lin Wanjun at home? I really have something urgent to discuss with her."

The woman sitting above chuckled, a look of utter disdain on her face. She pointed at Song Junwu, who was sitting in a round-backed chair to the side, and asked, "Where is this?"

Taken aback by the sudden leap in her question, wondering how she had jumped to this point, she still answered honestly, "The Commander's Mansion."

Song Chaohua looked at him with an expression that suggested he was looking at an idiot. “The owner of this mansion is sitting right next to you,” he meant that he would know even if a dog had entered the house.

Qingyun suddenly realized, "Yes, she could just ask Song Junwu directly." She was about to ask him when she realized, "This person is one of Your Highness's people. Even if Lord Song is a high-ranking official, can he be higher than you? If I want to see her, I still need your permission, don't I?"

Instead of fawning over everyone, Song Chaohua bluntly told Qingyun that she didn't need to be like that, as she wouldn't be able to see this person today.

Upon hearing this, Qingyun paused, glancing at Song Junwu beside him, signaling him to plead for her. But Song Junwu remained calm and composed, his face as if he were merely there to watch the show.

Qingyun winked and gestured, "Big brother, say something!"

Perhaps her gaze was too intense, for Song Junwu, this great god, finally deigned to look at her, though he merely glanced at her sideways and rejected her suggestion.

Damn it! Do you even remember why I asked you to come here?!
