Chapter 17. Secretary Wei's expression right now...
Secretary Wei's expression had calmed down by now, with only her eyes still flushed and moist from joy.
He said earnestly, "Don't worry, I will definitely work hard and create more small benefits for the company."
Sitting on the chairs on either side, Liu Yi and the old housekeeper were drinking water and listening to their chatter. They were getting old, and the stress of working had damaged their stomachs, so they could no longer drink the tea that they used to use to refresh themselves.
Liu Duanhe glanced at his watch and said, "It's getting late, Grandpa, you should get some rest."
Although he now lives at the school, his room is still in the old house, and someone cleans it every day.
Seeing Liu Duanhe get up, the old butler said kindly to Secretary Wei, "It's getting late, why don't you stay in the guest room tonight, Xiao Wei? The rooms are cleaned daily, it's very convenient, and it's close to the company for work tomorrow."
Secretary Wei adjusted his glasses and politely declined, saying, "I'd better not, I have some personal matters to attend to."
The old butler smiled and said, "Are you in a hurry to go back and be with your girlfriend?"
Liu Duanhe also looked over, his expression showing great interest.
He lowered his eyes, shook his head, and said, "No, I don't have a lover."
The old butler patted him on the shoulder and said regretfully, "Well, perhaps you feel that your career is more important now and you are busy with work, but it is still wonderful to hold hands with someone you can spend your life with and support each other."
After they left, Liu Duanhe said, "The travel expenses back and the overtime pay for tonight will still be the usual amount: triple pay for overtime and reimbursement for transportation expenses."
Just as he was about to leave, he heard Liu Duanhe's cell phone ringing in his pocket, and Secretary Wei couldn't help but stop in his tracks.
Liu Duanhe's expression visibly changed, but he didn't think much of it and answered the phone.
The bright overhead light illuminated his superior physique and face in perfect detail, with an unfamiliar coat draped over his arm.
He didn't try to pry into Young Master Liu's social interactions and intimate relationships. Guided by the servants along the way, he went out the gate, took a ride-hailing car home, and enjoyed the convenience of taking a taxi, which is one of the advantages of a manor built in a remote place, as seen in typical TV dramas.
The driver's surprised and envious look when he arrived at the door made Secretary Wei feel inexplicably annoyed.
All I can do is close my eyes and clear my mind.
On the other end, Liu Duanhe was surprised by Feng Xingyun's sudden call. Everyone in his phone's contact list was listed by name, treating everyone equally for easy communication. His decent memory was also enough to help him remember everyone's face, name, and any connections they had.
There were soft breathing sounds on the other end of the phone. Liu Duanhe waited patiently for a while, but Feng Xingyun remained silent, accompanied by a noisy background.
He switched the phone to his dominant hand, held it to his ear, and started walking, saying as he went:
"Are you still having dinner with them outside?"
A breathy "Mmm" came through the microphone.
Liu Duanhe's brows relaxed as he heard him finally speak, and he continued to ask, "Have you been drinking?"
Feng Xingyun denied it, saying, "No, they drank it, but I didn't."
They actually wanted to fill bottles with Feng Xingyun wine, but under Feng Xingyun's cold, piercing gaze, the thousands of team members who dared to try backed down.
Noticing that Feng Xingyun had a sour face all night and no one dared or wanted to be near him, except for Zhao Yi who kept subtly probing him throughout the meal, which annoyed him so much that he couldn't even have a moment of peace, he then dialed Liu Duanhe's number at the KTV as if possessed.
Liu Duanhe couldn't help but chuckle softly, feeling a strange and inexplicable emotion. "Then why did you call me?"
"What do you need me for?"
Feng Xingyun retorted, "Can't I contact you if there's nothing wrong?"
He couldn't help but laugh again, "But when others come to me, they all have something to ask of me, they all have a goal and a purpose."
Although Liu Duanhe appears gentle and approachable on the outside, his temperament and family background have greatly filtered out the number of people who can get close to him. There is no such thing as a perfect disguise. Just like the aloofness and arrogance in his bones, no matter how gentle he is, there will be times when they will show. Moreover, Liu Duanhe also has the weariness of wanting to take off his mask.
Feng Xingyun seemed to have gone to a quiet place, and his voice suddenly became clear, "I don't need anything from you, just pretend I'm crazy tonight."
Liu Duanhe's voice was filled with undisguised, genuine laughter, "Do you want to see me?"
"At this very moment."
Feng Xingyun thought he was hallucinating. He thought about it again and realized it wasn't his imagination. He was full of questions. Would friends say such ambiguous things to each other?
Well, although he doesn't like to talk to people, he has lived in a group for more than ten years. Some of the good friends he met in school really said such cheesy things, or even more cheesy things, like "I missed you so much".
He gritted his teeth, forcibly ignoring his discomfort, and changed the subject, saying, "They're playing a game right now, Truth or Dare, it's lively and seems quite fun."
Liu Duanhe deliberately said, "But I'm not very familiar with your team members."
"Didn't you have a good chat with them this afternoon?" Feng Xingyun leaned against the wall outside the private room, looking tired and still very cold. But this indifference suited his deep and handsome face perfectly, showing a hint of mockery and arrogance that made him unapproachable. Just one glance was enough to make people know that he was not someone to be trifled with.
Liu Duanhe immediately guessed that they must have mentioned him at the dinner party just now, and that Feng Xingyun was obviously concerned about him.
For some reason, Liu Duanhe remembered what the old man had said that evening, and his heart suddenly stirred, even though he had already reached the door of the room.
Are you bored?
Because the overall design could not be significantly altered, the rooms in the old house were undoubtedly smaller compared to Liu Duan and other residences, due to the need to gather energy.
However, Liu Duanhe only had requirements regarding hygiene; he didn't care about anything else.
After thinking for a moment, he turned around and walked out.
Feng Xingyun's deep, magnetic voice came from the phone, "It's alright."
All the documents that required his personal signature over the past few days were processed tonight, and he also met his grandfather. Liu Duanhe can now say that he has nothing to worry about.
"Send me your address, I'll come pick you up. I remember you like watching racing, there's a fun race at Wutong Mountain tonight, do you want to watch it, just the two of us?"
He only found out about the race a few days ago when someone asked him to get tickets. It was a club operated by a subsidiary of the group, which was even founded by his grandfather more than ten years ago. It was doing quite well, and its team almost won the Formula One World Championship China Championship last year.
Liu Duanhe himself was indifferent to this kind of extreme sport and dangerous racing activity. He did not have the same tendency as the rich second-generation people in the circle who loved to seek thrills and commit suicide.
He would never get involved in anything dangerous unless absolutely necessary.
Feng Xingyun was silent for a moment, and it took him a while to regain his ability to speak. "Okay, I'll wait for you at the door."
Liu Duanhe hung up the phone.
As for the truth or dare game and other games that were originally mentioned, Feng Xingyun had completely forgotten about them. It was only when Liu Duanhe mentioned the sports car that Feng Xingyun remembered the sports car he had ordered before, and the message sent yesterday said that it would arrive in a few days.
Originally, he and Liu Duanhe disliked each other and had a bad relationship. He could have accepted the reward for taking Liu Duanhe to the hospital, but now that they are friends, he felt uncomfortable giving a thank-you gift. Returning it would be embarrassing for both sides and would also hurt their feelings.
Compared to him, who is currently just a freeloader receiving company dividends, Liu Duanhe is well-known in the industry for his strong abilities and extensive network. He was taken to the company by his grandfather to learn at a young age and started handling company affairs several years ago. Over the years, he has successfully completed several large projects, and the cash flow he can control must be quite considerable.
The butler could just pull out a card with millions in it, which was indeed very extravagant. Feng Xingyun was indifferent to this kind of "other people's child," feeling neither envy nor jealousy, but simply admiration.
He had never praised anyone since he was a child, but Liu Duanhe was indeed the most perfect person he thought he met for the first time. Later, his good impression of him was shattered, but now it has been rebuilt.
After thinking for a moment, Feng Xingyun decided to reciprocate with a gift of equal value. He didn't know what Liu Duanhe liked, but Liu Duanhe remembered his favorite dishes and preferences even though he was his former adversary. He didn't want to let his feelings become unbalanced.
After sending the KTV address, Feng Xingyun straightened his long, bent legs, propped himself up, and turned to walk towards the private room.
According to Feng Xingyun's estimation, the KTV was one they found nearby, not far from the school. However, Liu Duanhe wasn't at the school, so it was unlikely that it was such a coincidence that it was nearby. Even if it wasn't rush hour and there were fewer cars, it would still take at least ten minutes.
They were all having a blast in the private room, making a huge racket. As soon as you entered, the smell of alcohol and their laughter filled your ears. The ceiling lights were large, European-style chandeliers, gleaming brightly.
Zhao Yi didn't join the large group; instead, she sat alone on the sofa next to them, hugging a bottle of wine and chuckling to herself, her face flushed.
Feng Xingyun returned to the private room, partly to let them know he was leaving so they wouldn't have to look for him, and partly to grab his bag, as his coat was still with Liu Duanhe.
He only remembered it when he got off the bus.
Zhao Yi sat down next to the sofa where he had put his bag. He was still conscious and noticed Feng Xingyun taking his bag. He asked loudly, "Are you leaving?"
Because of his voice, everyone around looked over, surprised and relieved, including the people at the tables where they were playing games.
Feng Xingyun hadn't even opened the bag, so he just picked up the shoulder strap and slung it over his shoulder. "I have something to do, so I'll be going now. You guys keep having fun. Don't rush back too late and miss the dorm curfew."
He gave them a few words of advice, fulfilled his duties as captain, and then walked out as they said goodbye.
When they got to the first floor, Feng Xingyun paid the bill for the private room at the front desk. Seeing that they were all either drunk or flushed with excitement, Feng Xingyun wondered if they would forget to pay the bill when they left.
After rummaging through his bag, Liu Duanhe picked out a Bentley that was neither too expensive nor too cheap, and that was stable and unlikely to make mistakes. A driver also needs to have a personal life. Sometimes he would drive himself to run errands. Of course, he only drove a few specific cars, and only he had driven them.
