Chapter 194 The Awakened Woman
Zhao Yunduo held the cup and looked around, and found that the interior of the church was similar to the impression he had when he saw it from outside.
It's very empty and clean inside.
Before the end of the world, churches would be filled with tables and chairs, but here there were only about six sets of tables and chairs, as if they had been deliberately cleared out.
Apart from that, there is no garbage or debris.
The woman who had just greeted him took off the headscarf that was covering her head immediately after closing the door.
When Zhao Yunduo looked at her again, he felt that she was much more relaxed.
"You sit down and have a rest first." The woman said, and brought out a bowl of black paste from somewhere, making it difficult to tell what the bowl was made of.
"Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"
"I just had some compressed cookies outside." Zhao Yunduo raised his hand and made a gesture of thanks, "No, thank you."
The woman nodded and did not force Zhao Yunduo. Instead, she put the bowl of porridge on the table.
The doors and windows of the church were closed, with only a candle lit near the cross. In the dim candlelight, everyone's expression was unclear.
In this atmosphere, no matter how brave Zhao Yunduo was, and no matter how sure he was that he could draw his gun quickly, accurately and ruthlessly, he would still feel a little uneasy.
What's more, the windows of the church are still nailed shut.
Zhao Yunduo thought for a moment and took out a high-power flashlight from her bag. With the sound of the switch being pressed, the church was instantly brightly lit.
They didn't seem to have expected that Zhao Yunduo had such a powerful flashlight that could make the church look like daytime and see everything inside the church at a glance.
The five people in the room exclaimed at the same time, and everyone's appearance and expression were revealed to Zhao Yunduo.
Except for the woman just mentioned, the other five people were sitting casually on the tables and chairs near the cross, three of them looked like foreigners.
They should be of similar age, but their faces were pale with only some faint wrinkles. They looked to be between 30 and 40 years old, about the same age as the woman just now.
The light made it impossible for them to hide, but Zhao Yunduo still waved the flashlight openly and greeted them.
At this time, the woman waved to them, motioning them to come up and meet Zhao Yunduo.
When they came over and introduced themselves to Zhao Yunduo, Zhao Yunduo confirmed that these three people were foreigners and could not speak Chinese.
The three of them chattered at Zhao Yunduo, speaking a long string of English. To Zhao Yunduo, a poor student, it sounded like a string of gibberish. He finally understood one sentence:
"**/%...&¥&...¥...god love you, Amen."
This sentence made her feel that these people might have stayed in this church before the end of the world.
But Zhao Yunduo doesn't believe in any religion. He thinks to himself, is there really a "GOD" or Jesus in this world? Will the end of the world really come?
But seeing how pious they looked, Zhao Yunduo probably thought that they were alive only because of God's blessing, and since they couldn't speak the same language, he kept silent.
I just nodded and smiled at them, frantically searching for words in my mind, and after a long while I finally said, "Hello."
This sentence made them realize that Zhao Yunduo’s English level was probably not that good. They stopped talking to Zhao Yunduo and just smiled and said "Hello".
Among the four, one man is a local.
He did not give a long speech like the three foreigners. He just nodded to Zhao Yunduo as a greeting and introduced himself briefly: "Hello, my name is Zhang Yong."
The woman wearing a headscarf was called Luna. She had deep eyebrows and a high nose bridge, but she spoke fluent Chinese, making it difficult to tell whether she was a local.
After a round of self-introductions, Zhang Yong, who looked honest and simple, asked Zhao Yunduo first, "Do you want to eat?"
Zhao Yunduo was stunned by the incoherent words, and then she looked back in the direction of his finger, only to realize that he was pointing at the bowl of porridge, and shook her head, "I'm not hungry."
Seeing that she insisted on not eating, Zhang Yong seemed to be relieved. He immediately picked up the bowl of porridge and walked to a room on the left side of the church. He opened the door very slightly and then slipped in through the crack.
He entered so quickly that Zhao Yunduo didn't have time to see what was inside clearly before the door closed quickly.
But in this brief moment, Zhao Yunduo heard a tiny scream. But soon, the scream disappeared behind the door.
Zhao Yunduo looked at Luna in confusion, "Is there anyone inside?"
Lu Na said yes, "The person inside is Zhang Yong's wife. She was sleeping and was probably awakened by the shock."
Luna seemed not to hear the scream.
"If you think it's too dark, you can light another candle. This light is a bit scary." Luna added.
Her eyes fell on Jesus nailed to the cross in the church. Zhao Yunduo said "oh", thinking she had offended someone, and quickly apologized to both Jesus and Luna.
But she didn't turn off the flashlight, she just switched it to normal mode, which was brighter than a candle.
For some reason, Zhao Yunduo felt that after the light dimmed, Luna breathed a sigh of relief, the smile on her face became a little brighter, and her body was no longer tense.
But the strange thing is that Luna is not afraid of light. She didn't show any abnormality when the flashlight was so bright just now. There was nothing strange in the church either.
The windows of the church were also covered with black cloth, so no light could get in outside.
Zhao Yunduo suppressed his doubts and asked another question: "Where do you sleep at night?"
"Zhang Yong and Asha will live in one room, and the four of us will sleep in one room. You can sleep with us at night." Luna said.
Zhao Yunduo didn't want to squeeze in with the young couple, nor did she want to squeeze into a large shop for five people. She looked at the rooms in the church and suddenly pointed to a small path on the right side of the church and asked, "Is there a room there too?"
Luna exclaimed, "No, that's... that's the kitchen room, used for cooking, not for sleeping."
She was very nervous when she spoke. She clenched her fists uncomfortably but quickly relaxed them. The movement was so fast that if Zhao Yunduo hadn't shone the flashlight beam near her, she wouldn't have noticed it at all.
"Let me take you to see our room." After saying this, Luna stood up and wanted to take Zhao Yunduo to see the room where she slept.
Zhao Yunduo didn't get up, but just said, "It's okay, I can just find a chair to sleep on."
"Ah... okay."
There was still some regret in Luna's tone, but she did not force Zhao Yunduo and even asked Zhao Yunduo if she needed some quilts.
"No need. Thank you for taking me in." Zhao Yunduo took out a thin blanket from her bag and said to Luna, "I have a quilt, don't worry about me."
When Luna and the three foreigners went into the room to rest, Zhao Yunduo looked around and felt that the interior of the church was too empty. The windows were nailed shut, the doors were locked, and even the kitchen door was tightly closed. The whole church was like an airtight prison and was really depressing.
She simply climbed up to the roof from one side of the church and prepared to sleep there at night.
