Chapter 27 The biological mother suddenly appears
Shen Linglan saw the message when she opened her mobile phone early in the morning and immediately went out to help Zhao Yunduo prepare the cloth.
She guessed that Zhao Yunduo probably had to stay outside at night and needed to cover the door so as not to attract the attention of the zombies. But after thinking about it, she couldn't seem to buy anything other than cloth.
You can't buy a tent, can you?
If you live in a tent in the wild, won’t you be caught like a turtle in a jar by the zombies?
The iron cage is even worse, as it can easily be surrounded by layers of zombies. If someone with ulterior motives happens to guard Zhao Yunduo from outside the cage, Zhao Yunduo will be at the mercy of others.
Shen Linglan, who had more money than she could spend, could only buy eighty pieces of black cloth for Zhao Yunduo in one go. She had originally bought them for a hundred pieces, but there was not enough space.
The remaining twenty pieces of cloth were returned to the boss. The boss took the money and saved twenty pieces of cloth. He was very happy and asked Shen Linglan to come again in the future.
Shen Linglan went home after finishing all these things on Sunday morning. Yesterday, Saturday, she made Chen Mengxue work overtime and accompany her to the mall for such a long time. Today, she had to let her go back and rest.
So she drove out in her Porsche for a rare occasion. After buying the cloth, she bought soy milk, fried dough sticks and steamed buns at the entrance of the community. After parking the car in the garage, Shen Linglan was about to take the elevator with her breakfast. Unexpectedly, she met an acquaintance in the elevator.
At first she didn't recognize who the simply dressed woman in front of her was, she just felt that she looked a little familiar.
The woman in front of her squinted her eyes and looked at her for a long time before she asked cautiously, "Is it Linglan?"
Shen Linglan shuddered when she heard the voice and looked at the face. Oh my god, isn't this her biological mother who she couldn't contact for five years and who refused to help her pay for college tuition no matter what she said! ?
Before she could even utter the word "Mom", she suddenly remembered the last words the woman had said to her five years ago: "You're in college now, so don't look for me for everything. In the future, you don't have to call me Mom. Just call me by my name, Sun Xiuli."
The sound that Shen Linglan was about to make became: "Sun Xiuli?"
When the woman heard Shen Linglan calling her, the confusion on her face turned into excitement. She even grabbed Shen Linglan's hand and scolded her, "Why are you calling me Sun Xiuli? You are so uneducated. How can you call me by my name when you can call me mom?"
Shen Linglan pulled her hand away and said expressionlessly, "Didn't you ask me to shout?"
After saying that, Shen Linglan unceremoniously walked around her and stepped into the elevator door that had just opened. When the elevator door was about to close, Sun Xiuli blocked the elevator door with a licking face. The elevator door was forced to open again, and Sun Xiuli followed suit and stepped in.
"Linlan, do you live here?"
Sun Xiuli asked her.
"Yeah." Shen Linglan looked as if she didn't want to talk to him.
"Did you rent the house or buy it?" Sun Xiuli didn't recognize the brand name that Shen Linglan was wearing. She only knew that the daughter she had refused to have before had now become someone she couldn't reach. This made her excited and happy, and she wanted to get close to her and share some of the pie.
"What's it to you?"
Seeing that Shen Linglan did not answer him directly, she asked him back in a vicious tone.
Sun Xiuli thought her daughter couldn't afford to buy a house, and was angry and embarrassed by her question, but she didn't care and said, "I think renting a house here shouldn't be cheap, right? I heard from my employer that it costs about 6,000 to 7,000 yuan a month? Where do you get so much money?"
As much as Shen Linglan loved her mother Sun Xiuli before, she hated her even more after Sun Xiuli unilaterally cut off ties with her. How could she have the patience to say a few more words to Sun Xiuli?
Shen Linglan just treated her as air and stopped talking to her.
Sun Xiuli kept talking about how difficult her life had been in the past few years. She worked as a housekeeper and a cleaning lady in an office building, doing several jobs at once.
"It was really not easy for mom in the past, so I could only support you to go to college. I didn't expect you to be grateful. Mom just wants to see you happy now."
If there was a third person in the elevator, they would probably think Shen Linglan was an ungrateful and unfilial daughter.
It was as if the days when Shen Linglan had to live with her relatives, was mocked by them, and had to work and eat leftovers were all a dream. And every year when school started, Shen Linglan begged her father and mother, but they passed the buck, and no one was willing to pay for Shen Linglan's tuition and living expenses.
Every year, relatives would call and curse at them several times, threatening to call the police and sue the abandoned parents, and only then would they reluctantly pay their share of child support.
One year, Sun Xiuli refused to pay, saying she had no money.
Shen Linglan went to her new home to beg for money. Because she was in the third year of junior high school at that time, the teacher said that if she could not pay the tuition, she would be expelled from school. Shen Linglan had no choice but to knock on Sun Xiuli's door with a thick face.
Sun Xiuli looked very angry at the time. She said that Shen Linglan had affected her normal life. She said that she had given birth to a son again and the money should be saved to buy milk powder. She asked Shen Linglan to be more sensible and ask her biological father for more.
Shen Linglan will never forget that night. In the freezing winter night, Sun Xiuli did not let her drink a sip of hot tea, nor did she invite her to sit in the house. She even slammed the door after saying those words.
She stood in the middle of the night for a very long time, so long that her feet were so cold that she could not feel them, and so long that the night light went out.
Shen Linglan still remembers that when she looked out the window, she could see the people in the house having dinner together and laughing together under the dim light. There was also her mother, who was holding a child and coaxing him. The child was crying, but her mother had a big smile on her face and was talking to the man beside her from time to time.
She looked at everything in the room and felt sad.
Clearly, all of that belonged to her when she was a child, why did it no longer belong to her in the blink of an eye? Clearly, she did nothing wrong.
She didn't know how long she stood outside the house, so long that the lights in the house were turned off. She looked up at the moon in the sky, and then burst into tears.
The next morning, someone rushing to work found Shen Linglan squatting at the stairs.
The man looked to be in his early twenties. He looked at Shen Linglan in surprise and asked her, "What are you doing here, little girl?"
Shen Linglan opened her mouth and when she made a sound, she found that her throat was dry and hoarse.
She said: "It's time to pay the school tuition, but my mother won't give it to me."
"Ah?" The young man looked at the family where Shen Linglan was looking in surprise, then lowered his head and thought for a while, then asked her, "How much money do you still need to pay the tuition?"
"Two hundred."
Shen Linglan lowered her head, as if she felt ashamed of these two words.
Unexpectedly, the man took out his wallet from the briefcase he was carrying and handed the only two red banknotes in it to Shen Linglan, "Brother, I'll lend it to you."
He touched Shen Linglan's head and said, "Remember, you have to work hard. Only by relying on yourself can you live a beautiful life."
Shen Linglan opened her eyes misty with tears, and she didn't know where to put the hands that were stuffed with two bills. She didn't want to take money from a stranger, but if she didn't take it, she would not be able to take the high school entrance examination. While she was hesitating, the man had already run towards the bus stop.
A few years later, when Shen Linglan graduated from university, she went back to the place to return the money to the young man, but she waited and waited but the man never showed up. When she asked the property management, she found out that the man had already moved away.
Recalling the past, Shen Linglan felt even more grateful to the young man, and even more hatred towards her mother.
The elevator stopped at the floor where Shen Linglan lived. She walked out of the elevator and stopped Sun Xiuli from following her. She said coldly, "If you follow me again, I will call the police."
Sun Xiuli stamped her feet, "Look at you! How come you have grown up to be so unfilial!?"
Her voice disappeared from Shen Linglan's ears as the elevator door closed.
