Chapter Six: The Truth of Three Years

Chapter Six: The Truth of Three Years

Unlike Huo Junjun, Su Muci's gaze was fixed on four other words—[Zhou Group].

As if she had seen something terrifying, Su Muci's hand holding the note trembled slightly.

After a long while, she said in a hoarse voice, "Junjun, I want to go home and lie down for a while."

Huo Junjun nodded: "Okay, I'll take you back."

"No need, I want to go back by myself and have some peace and quiet."

Hearing Su Muci's words, Huo Junjun was still worried: "Then you should go home and rest well. Remember, whatever you do, don't see Fu Hengzhi again!"

After giving her repeated instructions, Huo Junjun watched Su Muci get into the taxi, and her tense heart slowly relaxed.

"Mu Ci, you have to pull through..."

However, Su Muci did not listen. The taxi she was in turned around after passing an intersection and headed towards the Zhou Group.

She knew it was a trap, but she had nothing left and wasn't afraid of losing anything more.

All she wants now is an answer: after three years of devoted love, why has she ended up like this?

...

The rooftop of the Zhou Group building was bitterly cold.

Su Muchi pushed open the heavy fire door, which made a creaking sound.

At the end of the rooftop, a figure that she once knew so well, yet now seemed so unfamiliar, came into view.

Fu Hengzhi had his back to her, his tall figure exuding extreme coldness and indifference.

She walked forward step by step, her tightly pursed lips finally uttering, "Fu Hengzhi, I'm here."

As soon as he finished speaking, his pupils suddenly trembled.

Because the moment Fu Hengzhi turned around, a nightmarish figure emerged from behind him.

"Sister, it's been a long time!"

Zhou Mengying's voice was soft, yet it was as chilling and sinister as hell itself.

Su Muci's face turned deathly pale in an instant: "So it was you..."

Suffocating memories surged into her mind.

Just because Su Muci called her stepmother a "mistress," her stepmother and her half-sister Zhou Mengying harbored resentment.

First, Zhou Mengying deliberately fell down the stairs and falsely accused her of pushing her. Then, the mother and daughter persuaded her father to remove her from the Zhou family genealogy and make her live in a dark basement!

In the basement, the mother and daughter skinned Xiaoqi, her beloved dog whom she had raised for seven years, alive, right in front of Su Muci.

They made her watch as Xiaoqi's corpse rotted and decayed before her eyes, eventually being devoured bit by bit by the rats that Zhou Mengying had brought in.

Even after she escaped from the Zhou family, she still felt a burning hatred every time she thought of that past.

Deep-seated hatred caused Su Muci to involuntarily clench her fist the moment she saw Zhou Mengying.

Zhou Mengying walked towards her without restraint, and said in a victorious tone:

"Sister cried so hard at Jiangcheng Square today. You must really want to know why Hengzhi pretended not to know you, right? I'll mercifully tell you the truth."

"Three years ago, the nanny who let you out was someone I arranged. Didn't you always try to climb out the window and escape, thinking that your life would have hope if you escaped? Well, I'll give you hope!"

"I want to watch you slowly build up your hope, climb higher and higher, and when you reach the top and think you've found happiness, I'll make you fall hard back to where you started!"

"What are we going to do now? All the hope you've been waiting for has been destroyed with a flick of my finger! Now your father is mine, and the man you love is mine too. There's only one thing you don't belong to me..."

That's your mother, but she's dead.

Zhou Mengying pointed to a dimly lit corner on the rooftop, her words piercingly incisive: "Do you see there? That's where your mother jumped to her death."

“She used to be a parasite dependent on my father, and now you are a parasite dependent on my fiancé. You two are the same, mother and daughter. Do you think that cooking and doing housework at home is enough to deserve the best man in the world? What original wife? You are nothing but a lowly and useless nanny.”

Why don't you go downstairs now and keep your lonely nanny mom company?

Zhou Mengying made no attempt to hide her intentions; her goal was to completely break Su Muci, drive her to utter despair, and ultimately make her commit suicide by jumping off a building, just like her mother, and disappear forever!

Su Muci's eyes were already bloodshot from the sting of her vicious words.

This was the answer she wanted.

Three years of love were merely a weapon Zhou Mengying used to strangle her last shred of life.

Her deathly pale face turned to Fu Hengzhi, her voice so soft it seemed it could shatter at any moment:

"Fu Hengzhi, all I want to hear right now is one sentence from you: You've celebrated my birthday three times, and we've spent three New Years together. You took me to see the sunrise and sunset on your electric scooter... Was there even a single second of that... that was genuine?"

Her gloomy gaze was fixed on the man she had loved for three years.

Fu Hengzhi said coldly, "Su Muci, you have no right to question me. What you should do now is kneel down and apologize to Ying'er!"

"Me? Apologize?"

Su Muci suppressed the surging soreness in her eyes and nose, and suddenly laughed.

It turns out that when people are extremely grief-stricken and indignant, they really can't help but laugh.

Why should I apologize?

She choked back tears as she asked, "Is it because I didn't jump off here immediately, and didn't satisfy your fiancée?"

Fu Hengzhi loosened his tie, his expression filled with disgust: "Why?"

"Because of your jealousy, you pushed Ying'er down the stairs. She had to break three bones before she could stand up!"

"Because of your darkness, my once gentlest Ying'er has been left with a leg ailment, suffering both physical and psychological torment!"

"Su Muci, you deserve what you're suffering now. Apologize to Ying'er. Don't make me say it a third time!"

His words were full of defense of Zhou Mengying.

This act of protection seemed strangely familiar to Su Muci.

Just a year ago, she encountered some thugs in an alley and was nearly bullied when Fu Hengzhi rushed over in the night and beat them to a pulp.

"Kneel down and apologize to my girlfriend!"

"Keep kowtowing! Keep kowtowing!"

"Do you recognize who she is? If you dare to mess with her again, I'll kill you!"

In her memory, the scene of him standing up for her was deeply imprinted in her heart.

Every time Su Muchi thinks of that day during those 300-plus days of that year, she feels warm and a smile appears on her face.

But today, this "precious" memory only brings her unspeakable pain.

Every single moment of love she had shared over the past three years had been tearing open a bloody reality for her:

It turns out that even the most unforgettable love can be a facade, and that apart from her mother, there is no one else in this world who truly loves her.

At that moment, Su Muchi's internal organs seemed to have shattered and could never be pieced back together.

Zhou Mengying watched with satisfaction as Su Muchi broke down.

"There's something you don't know yet, sister. There's a betting circle in Jiangcheng's high society that you might jump off this rooftop after being dumped by Hengzhi."

"Half of the wealthy young men have placed their bets, but Hengzhi hasn't. Hengzhi, have you thought it through? Which side are you betting on?"

Betting?

Su Muchi's breath froze.

She never imagined that these scions of wealthy families would gamble with her life.

What she didn't expect was that Fu Hengzhi, almost without the slightest hesitation, coldly stated: "I will make her jump."
