Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall

The remaining warmth disappeared in Lu Miao's hands in an instant. She was full of doubts and gently stroked a corner of the paper.

The regular characters with sharp corners on each stroke seem to form a provocative smiling face.

The darkness of the environment conceals the rich purple color of the text.

The TV on the wall emitted a color-bar glow, and the faint colorful images were reflected on their faces, adding to the eeriness.

"Obviously, the 'person on duty' referred to in the rules is you, Host Shao."

Shao Rongrong glared at Lu Miao. "Why? I never thought of coming in!"

"You can only think of a way to escape now."

The cold words awakened Shao Rongrong's reason.

Now that she's here, what else can she do? She can only follow the rules and find a way to escape.

She sighed. "What do we do now?"

"Find a candle and light it. Find something to cover your face, and everyone put away a duty notice."

"Oh..." She looked around aggrievedly. "So it's the new media department... I've been here before, and the original office doors were all transparent floor-to-ceiling glass, so there were no walls."

Hearing this, Lu Miao cast a sharp gaze, like a cold front in the dark night. "Which floor is the new media department on?"

“Second floor.”

“Are there any other changes to the layout?”

Shao Rongrong pointed at the wall that separated the offices. "Originally, there was floor-to-ceiling glass there, with a glass door. Behind the door was the office area for the post-production team. The independent office at the back also had floor-to-ceiling glass replaced with a wall. The rest is pretty much the same as before."

The male college student heard something. "There must be something strange about replacing the floor-to-ceiling glass with the wall."

The earring girl agreed. "The rules require us to check if there are any damages on the walls, so we can check while we're looking for candles."

There was only a matchbox and a flashlight in the cleaner's waist bag, and Lu Miao thought the candle was hidden in the office.

They each collected a duty notice and searched every desk for candles.

Shao Rongrong didn't find a mask, but only a scarf of a female colleague in the department. She picked up the scarf and looked embarrassed. "Do you have any extra masks?"

"No."

She sighed and reluctantly covered her face with the scarf.

Like a masked thief.

A green power light was on in the lower right corner of each display screen, dim and like many eyes watching over them.

The uncle with slicked-back hair felt uncomfortable. Every night he would check if his daughter's computer and monitor were turned off before going to bed. Now that the power lights were on, he wanted to turn off the monitors one by one.

"The rules in the hallway forbid us from using electronic devices, but the rules here allow them. Which one should we follow?"

No one answered the man with the slicked-back hair because everyone had already dispersed to look for candles.

The new media section has three areas.

The area where Shao Rongrong was found was a large office, which included a separate office in the northwest corner.

The third area is the next door office, separated by a wall and a door.

Lu Miao walked into the independent office to look for candles.

It is about twenty square meters, surrounded by four snow-white walls, and the office door is a wooden door.

The narrow and isolated space was silent, engulfing the lonely deer seedling.

Some office papers were scattered on the ground, and one of them left a light shoe print.

She walked around to the mahogany desk and saw the green power light in the lower right corner of the display.

There is a white candle on the table.

She picked up the candle and looked at it left and right, and still thought it would be better to light it on the desk. Then she cleared the papers and folders on the desk and picked up the papers on the floor.

——Escape!

There were three words scribbled on the back of a document.

She searched through other files and found another message.

Are you sure you are still you?

Lu Miao was stunned.

The handwriting of the two messages is the same, but the second one is written more neatly than the first.

She gathered up the papers and folders and stuffed them into drawers, clearing out any flammable items.

She held a white candle and lit it with a match. Liquid wax dripped onto the table, and she placed the lit candle on the wax.

The goose-yellow candlelight filled the independent office, illuminating her dark eyes.

Her white hand stopped above the candlelight, feeling the temperature of the flame.

Fire can destroy suspicious electronic equipment.

She stared quietly, the candlelight in her eyes like a flame out of control.

After a moment, she withdrew her thoughts and returned to her cold expression.

Something is wrong here.

She stared out the dark door.

Shao Rongrong and the girl with earrings stayed in the big office to look for candles, one in the east and the other in the west.

Shao Rongrong secretly complained that there were too many people in the operations team, which resulted in too many desks and she was dazzled by the search.

When she was flipping through the folders on the table, her hand accidentally touched an easily movable object. Suddenly, her whole body stiffened and she turned her head tremblingly to look.

Woo——

The host computer underneath suddenly made a sound of operation, and the blue light of the graphics card shone through the wall of the computer case, dyeing her scarf-covered face blue.

Immediately, the display screen on the desk ended standby and lit up.

"Ah..." She was startled.

I just accidentally touched the mouse.

"What... should I do?" She subconsciously reached for the power switch at the lower right corner of the display.

Stop!

She stopped her cold hand and pulled it back tremblingly.

This wasn't her electronic device, she couldn't turn it off without permission.

There was no face popping up suddenly on the computer desktop displayed on the screen, and no software was running. She decided to ignore it and quickly search the desk.

The girl with earrings on the other side found a white candle and lit it immediately.

Holding a candle, she carefully examined the wall outside the private office.

She walked along the wall and inadvertently found a hole as small as a needle hole in the wall, which seemed to have been caused by insects.

She was not sure if this was considered damaged, so she called out to Shao Rongrong: "Ms. Shao, come and take a look."

"What are you looking at?"

"It looks like there's a hole in the wall."

Shao Rongrong, holding her scarf tightly, walked over quickly. She was busy looking at the wall and didn't notice the earring girl's staring eyes. "There is indeed a small hole."

It is the size of a bean, making people want to pick it with their fingernails.

"No……"

Shao Rongrong glanced sideways and saw her trembling lips.

Her other hand was shaking as she pointed at the small hole in the wall. "Just now... before I called you, the hole wasn't this big..."

"Big?"

"Big...Originally it was only as small as a needle..."

"You remember correctly?"

"Absolutely not!"

Shao Rongrong was horrified.

The male college student and the middle-aged man with slicked-back hair searched the office of the post-production team next door. It was a dark office with only the power light of the display screen as the light source.

Fortunately, there was a flashlight in the waist bag, and they turned on the flashlight to illuminate.

The male college student was rummaging through his desk while asking, "I can actually work on my computer without candles, so why bother?"

The uncle with slicked-back hair thought for a moment. "To avoid hurting your eyes?"

He shook his head. "I think that not turning on the lights is a reminder that light sources are not good for us, but we are asked to light candles, which is very contradictory."

The uncle with the slicked-back hair was even more confused. "Never mind, let's light the candles first. This is our job as cleaners. We need to move quickly. Who knows how many offices there are in this building?"

“That’s right.”

The flashlight swept across the table, across the place where the words were left.

The male college student came closer in surprise and carefully read the words written on the desk.

——Can't escape

Those brief words seemed to predict their fate, and his heart skipped a beat.

What is the purpose of the person who left the message? To warn or to mislead?

When the uncle with the slicked-back hair put down the folder, he accidentally touched the mouse next to him. He stood there without reacting.

Woo——

The sudden sound was like a low whimper in the darkness, which scared the uncle with a slicked-back hair so much that he cursed "Fuck".

"What's that sound?" The male college student strode over.

"I don't know. I touched the mouse."

Then, the host computer under the table emitted a blue graphics card light.

"It's the sound of the host running."

The desktop display lit up.

"It makes a sound when I touch the mouse?"

The male college student was speechless, and suddenly an idea came to him. "Wait, when we came in, only the power light of the display was on, and these hosts were not on, right?"

"Yes."

"If the computer is in sleep mode, you need to press the keyboard to activate the host. If you just touch the mouse, only the standby display will be activated, provided that the host is also in standby mode. The standby host will emit the graphics card light."

The man with slicked-back hair seemed to understand and pointed at the bright display. "Does it mean it's finished with standby?"

The male college student was speechless as the monitor showed a computer desktop with anime wallpaper.

wrong.

He felt something was wrong.

It is impossible to activate a sleeping host by simply touching the mouse.

Unless someone activates it on their behalf.

This conjecture made him break out in a cold sweat.

While thinking, the uncle with slicked back hair rubbed his eyes.

Male college student squinting anime wallpaper.

The face of the anime girl gradually became blurred, just like the effect of "Gaussian blur", her face had become a blur.

“Turn it off!”

After the male college student finished shouting, he frantically searched for the power switch at the bottom of the display.

Unexpectedly, he glimpsed that the blurry face became less blurry.

He stared at the computer wallpaper like a madman.

The face swelled, split, and then clear eyebrows and eyes appeared.

The two of them suddenly turned pale.

"ah!!!"

Lu Miao heard a scream and then saw two figures rushing into the independent office.

"What happened?" she asked Shao Rongrong and the girl with the earrings.

Shao Rongrong knelt on the ground, feeling powerless all over.

The earring girl has experience in cracking things and can even speak: "There's a hole in the wall! It was originally a hole as small as a pinhead, but in the blink of an eye it became as big as a bean!"

"Is there something behind the hole?"

"Who dares to see it clearly? And it's so dark!"

Lu Miao stared at the candle in the earring girl's hand. "Find a candle and light it. Then we can go find them and leave the New Media Department."

The two woke up as if from a dream.

Shao Rongrong was still terrified: "If we go out, will the hole get bigger? Will something come out?"

"We can't stay here long."

The earring girl agreed. "Being trapped here is like being trapped in a jar. It's better to get out as soon as possible."

"Oh, then let's go out."

The three of them walked out of the independent office together, and the light of the goose yellow candle illuminated the lonely large office.

Nothing extra appears for the time being.

Lu Miao said to the girl with earrings, "Fix the candles and we'll go look for them next door."

She hurriedly complied, moving away from the outer wall of the private office.

Taking advantage of this gap, Lu Miao walked towards the direction where they said there was a cave and searched for it with his peripheral vision.

Sure enough, there was a finger-sized hole in the snow-white wall, which was black and quite conspicuous.

She walked past quickly and looked away.

After fixing the candles in the large office, the three of them walked into the office next door together.

"Did you find any candles?"

The dark office made the girl with earrings speechless.

The only light source was the white light of two flashlights.

The two people, with their backs to the light, also had their backs to the three of them, standing facing the wall.

The girl with the earrings was terrified. "Hey, what are you doing?"

The two silhouettes were dark and motionless.
