Chapter 35

Chapter 35

At four o'clock in the morning, Gu Fang was awakened by the pain of cramps in his calves.

He suddenly regained consciousness from his dream. He lay on the upper bunk, the snoring of the person on the opposite bunk lingered in his ears. He slowly straightened his calves and knees, feeling a sharp pain in his bones.

The doctor said that after differentiation, the Alpha hormone will cause a period of retaliatory growth.

Gu Fang gradually got used to the pain of growing up.

There was a faint sound of pumping water coming from the water pipe in the corner. When the pain subsided, his consciousness finally became completely clear.

Gu Fang turned his head away from the pillow, his soft hair ruffled and scratched his eyelids, but he didn't want to care and just reached out to touch the phone beside the pillow.

Cell phones were required to be turned off during the training camp, but the others in my dorm apparently didn't follow this rule. Upon returning home, they were either playing games or chatting with their partners. Gu Fang was the only Alpha in the entire camp, and when they assigned him to a room full of Betas, he was assigned to it.

Gu Fang followed this request during the day, but at night, he couldn't help feeling uneasy.

Lifting the quilt a little higher to block the light from the screen, Gu Fang opened the pinned avatar and skillfully clicked on the person's circle of friends.

I really can’t praise Zhi A’s photography skills.

But ever since Gu Fang started training, Lu Si would update his Moments late at night every day. There was nothing in his post, just a photo he casually took.

The sun rises over the playground on Monday.

Extra meals in the cafeteria on Tuesdays.

The red walls of the campus illuminated by the setting sun on Wednesday.

A maple leaf tucked into the collection of wrong answers on Thursday.

Gu Fang held up his cell phone, half-closed his eyelids, his eyes were originally tired and indifferent, but as he looked at it, the corners of his lips couldn't help but rise up in a slight arc, and his eyes also curved softly.

In the early morning, there is always a group of people in the studio who come much earlier than the scheduled time.

When Chu Chi entered the studio carrying the soy milk, he saw Gu Fang already standing at a fixed position by the window, with the frame stretched out and the colors adjusted, preparing to draft the painting according to the topics of the previous years' joint examination.

Surprise flashed across his face, and he approached Gu Fang: "You got up so early."

Gu Fang was not annoyed by the interruption of his train of thought. He stopped writing and looked at him: "You are here early too."

In the entire huge studio, there were only two or three people besides them.

"Of course." Chu Chi smiled. "When it comes to painting, 30% depends on talent and 70% depends on hard work. That's what I think anyway."

Gu Fang lowered his eyes and thought seriously: "I think it's because you have talent, so you think so."

Chu Chi tapped the pile of practice work on the floor and jokingly said, "You're more talented than me, and you're also much more hardworking. Thinking of you makes me unable to stay in bed this morning."

Gu Fang was amused by him and chuckled: "I am a latecomer, I can't compare with you guys."

"Stop talking, stop talking," Chu Chi seemed afraid of him and quickly shook his head, saying distressedly, "You are very ordinary."

Over the next few days, Chu Chi often found excuses to go to the cafeteria with him for dinner.

Gu Fang didn't think much of it at first, but later he gradually figured out something. Sometimes before Chu Chi came to see him, he would first find his roommate to have dinner together.

When Gu Fang met Chu Chi again while getting food, he felt inexplicably guilty, but Chu Chi didn't seem to care and greeted him with a smile.

Gu Fang felt that he was overthinking it.

But the roommate said, "Chu Chi is pursuing you?"

Gu Fang blinked, a little confused: "Really? I thought he was making friends with me."

"Come on," the roommate was a little speechless. "One A and one O, how can there be pure friendship? - Well," the roommate looked at his appearance again, "maybe it is for you, but Chu Chi definitely doesn't think so."

Only then did Gu Fang clearly feel the difference brought about by gender differences. He naturally included Chu Chi in the scope of his friends, but in the eyes of others, perhaps including Chu Chi, it was not the case.

There is a half-day break during the training camp, where you can go out of school and walk around nearby.

Although the campus is located in the suburbs, a small commercial street and food street have been formed near the school, and there is a wetland park further away.

That morning, as soon as the class ended, Chu Chi stopped Gu Fang and invited him to go for a walk outside the school.

"I'm sorry," Gu Fang half-lowered his eyes, thought for a moment, and decided to refuse directly, "I can't go."

Chu Chi asked the reason thoroughly: "Do you have something to do this afternoon? Or do you simply not like going out?"

"No, I can't go." Gu Fang's eyes were calm, giving people a sense of stability, but the words he uttered did not leave any hope, "Sorry, I already have someone I like."

Chu Chi was stunned for a moment, surprise flashing in his eyes: "Ah, I'm sorry, I didn't know you already had a partner, I thought with your personality you wouldn't..."

"...We're not dating." Gu Fang pursed his lips, his beautiful lines forming a tight line. "But I will always like you. I will continue to like you even without dating you."

Chu Chi was even more surprised this time, and he probably didn't understand how such feelings could exist in the world.

"What do you mean? Why aren't you dating? Does the other person not like you? ...Continuing to like someone means you won't consider anyone else in the future?"

"……I have no idea."

A glimmer of confusion flashed across Gu Fang's calm and gentle eyes. In Chu Chi's eyes, a rare hint of vulnerability appeared. "I don't know these either."

Chu Chi looked at the bench in the corner of the corridor and gestured with his eyes, "Go sit over there, do you mind?"

The end of the corridor was quiet and deserted, with withered wisteria flowers covering the pillars.

There was a vending machine nearby. Chu Chi ordered a coffee on the screen and turned to Gu Fang, "How about orange juice?"

Gu Fang sat alone on the bench, lowering his eyelashes and nodding.

Chu Chi handed him the juice and didn't sit down. Instead, he leaned against the pillar beside him, tore open the pull ring of the coffee can and asked, "What kind of person can you like?"

"A very good person..." said Gu Fang.

"But?" Chu Chi followed his tone.

He lowered his voice: "He is an Alpha, just like me."

Chu Chi had taken a sip of coffee when he was caught off guard and choked it out. After a long pause, he looked up in disbelief and asked, "Why would you like an Alpha?"

Gu Fang glanced at him with his dull blue eyes. "Because I was originally an Omega, and I only recently underwent secondary differentiation."

“…”

Chu Chi swallowed, "Luckily I didn't drink any more coffee."

Gu Fang stopped talking, pulled out the orange juice straw and inserted it.

Chu Chi slowly came to understand: "No wonder, no wonder you are an art student, no wonder your personality is different from any Alpha I have ever met."

Gu Fang said with a rare humor: "Then you might want to rethink whether you like Omegas."

"That's different," Chu Chi shook his head, "You're also different from any Omega I've ever met."

He squatted down, his arms wrapped around his knees, his head tilted back, and he began to persuade me in a negotiating tone: "Since you're an Alpha now, why don't you give it a try and date me? I have a feeling our pheromones are highly compatible."

Gu Fang glared at him with drooping eyelids, shaking his head slowly and firmly.

"no."

"Why not?" Chu Chi asked back.

Gu Fang thought about it seriously: "Because the person I like is unique, I don't think you will accept a boyfriend who likes someone else wholeheartedly."

"I really can't accept it." Chu Chi laughed, "Gu Fang, do you like that person because he's an Alpha, or because of his pheromones?"

"I don't understand this question." Gu Fang took a sip of orange juice. "I like him, so I like that he's an Alpha, and I also like his pheromones."

"Then what you like is him as a person," Chu Chi said with certainty, "Because you like him as a person, even if you become an Alpha, you will still like him."

"How bizarre," Chu Chi said, a little surprised. "I actually met a couple that's in a relationship that transcends gender."

"It's quite strange." Gu Fang sneered.

Suddenly, Chu Chi's expression became serious: "What does the other party think?"

A flash of realization crossed Gu Fang's eyes, and his gaze dimmed a little: "I think he may not have recovered yet."

"When he recovers," Chu Chi said seriously, "he will definitely come after you."

Gu Fang looked at him strangely: "You don't even know him."

"But I know you," Chu Chi said without hesitation, "If I were him, I would be loved wholeheartedly by someone like you, no matter if you were an A or an O, I would just pursue you."

Chu Chi stood up, holding the coffee can in one hand and rubbing his numb calf with the other, looking at Gu Fang: "As long as he is not stupid, he will not let go."

The next week was still spent doing exercises and listening to the teacher's comments.

Chu Chi would still greet Gu Fang warmly when he saw him, but he no longer took the initiative to invite him to dinner. Gu Fang's roommates were all puzzled when they saw this: "What happened? Why did Chu Chi suddenly give up?"

On the day the training camp ended, everyone took a group photo at the school gate.

Before pressing the shutter, the teacher shouted: "You will definitely pass the joint entrance examination!"

Everyone laughed and shouted together: "We will definitely pass the joint exam!"

With a click, the photo is frozen.

The school gate was full of buses. Before getting on, Chu Chi suddenly approached Gu Fang mysteriously. After the teacher finished giving Gu Fang his instructions, Chu Chi lowered his voice and leaned over, "Gu Fang, you must not give up."

Gu Fang was stunned for a moment, then realized what he was talking about and couldn't help laughing: "How come you care more than me?"

Chu Chi said, "Because I can't accept it. If you give up and end up with some other Omega, I'll be devastated."

"Thank you." Gu Fang said politely but with a cold expression, "I'll try my best not to let you lose money."

"Are you really willing to give up?" Chu Chi looked at the crowd in the distance, reluctantly saying goodbye. "I've heard that many A's have strong possessiveness and a strong desire to conquer, and won't easily give up what they set their eyes on."

Gu Fang did not answer.

"So you have to work hard, I'm rooting for you two."

Hearing his companions shouting from a distance, Chu Chi ran forward a few steps, turned around, and made a "come on" gesture to Gu Fang.

Gu Fang probably didn't expect that Chu Chi would be the first person to clearly express his support for him and Lu Si.

The bus carrying Chu Chi and his companions drove away.

The end of this road was too far to see clearly, and none of them knew what the future held. All they could see was that where the end met the horizon, the sky was so blue it was only shrouded in a few wisps of cloud.

After this farewell, the sky is high and the clouds are vast.

Gu Fang stood there for a long time, his thoughts wandering away at that moment.

He must be unwilling to accept this.

So he still remembers the beautiful pair of glass-wing butterflies from his childhood.

So after the second surgery failed, he was obsessed with recovering and going to watch the first performance again, which helped him get through the long period of failed surgery.

He wanted to live a healthy and normal life, originally for the purpose of having the qualifications to intervene in Lu Si's life.

Go give it a try.

The dry branches that had lost all their leaves in late autumn were still waving to him ostentatiously in the autumn wind.

Only then will I be willing to accept failure.
