Chapter 16 I'm here to pick you up from school!
On her first day of high school, Shi Miao worked hard for most of the day and finally finished all the courses from elementary school.
The bell rang to signal the end of the last free activity period.
Boarding students packed their belongings, preparing to return to their dormitories or go to the cafeteria.
Zou Yuanyuan and Deng Yi agreed to go back to their dorm to wash their hair first, so they wouldn't have to wait in line for a hairdryer.
The two greeted Shi Miao and left the classroom.
Day students also gradually left with their backpacks on.
Splash!
Jiang Yingxu put the test paper into his schoolbag, picked up the bag, and stood up.
He lowered his eyes slightly, glanced at Shi Miao who was dawdling and pretending to pack her textbooks, smiled almost imperceptibly, and turned to walk out the back door.
Shi Miao listened intently to Jiang Yingxu's footsteps as he walked away. Once she was sure he was far away, she immediately jumped up and followed him with light movements.
Jiang Yingxu walked towards the school gate at a leisurely pace.
Shi Miao estimated the distance and time, had the system find a blind spot in the surveillance, and transformed back into a beautiful, long-haired kitten.
He stuffed all the clothes that had fallen on the ground into his system inventory.
The kitten quickly climbed the tree, then leaped with all its might, tracing an arc in the air before landing steadily on the wall of the school.
I took a shortcut to get to the school gate.
Shi Miao jumped onto one of the stone lions at the entrance, placed her paws on the lion's head, and peered into the crowd.
The system, confused, asked: "What's the purpose of going through all this trouble?"
Shi Miao proudly puffed out the white fur of her bib, "You don't understand what it feels like to have someone pick you up from school."
Shi Miao understood.
When she first left her mother cat, she wandered the streets alone to survive. When she saw the kittens jumping and playing around their mother in the bushes, she would feel a pang of bittersweet envy.
Jiang Yingxu lost his parents when he was nine years old. For the first two years, his uncle and aunt pretended to be good people and occasionally picked him up and dropped him off. Later, they stopped pretending altogether.
He always kept to himself.
It's okay, the cat will protect him, starting with picking him up from school.
Cars come and go at the school gate, picking up day students to go home or to an evening class taught by a retired teacher.
Many parents, carrying insulated containers, crowded around the school gate railing, waiting for their children to come out so they could hand them dinner and fruit.
Shi Miao glanced at it a couple more times.
"—Brother Zhou, why is there a cat here?"
The drawn-out sound trembled as he ran.
The boy, in a casual and nonchalant tone, followed up, "A stray cat?"
"It's so clean, it doesn't look like a stray cat, it looks like a domesticated one."
"Wow, it's a long-haired calico! My dream cat!"
Several students rushed up and surrounded Shi Miao.
With one hand in his pocket and a lollipop between his teeth, Yan Zhaozhou walked forward with great interest amidst his companions' exclamations.
The kitten sat atop the stone lion's head, looking like a large triangular rice ball, its cat-like eyes, with their own eyeliner, staring intently at him.
It looks quite nice.
However, despite having a pretty face, short nose, and big eyes, and a sweet appearance, he seemed to have a hint of murderous intent in his eyes, though he didn't know if it was just his imagination.
How could that be?
Yan Zhaozhou chuckled, stroking his chin. He thought that the kitten staring at him might want to go home with him.
If you have a silly, destructive dog at home, it would be nice to bring a cat home to keep it company.
He looked at the kitten's clean bib fur but didn't see a collar.
"Hey, little kitten, want to come with me?"
Yan Zhaozhou's voice was slightly low, with a nonchalant and roguish tone. As he spoke, he reached out his hand, wanting to pat the kitten's head.
Just then, the obedient kitten struck with lightning speed, scratching his outstretched hand.
"hiss!"
Yan Zhaozhou gasped, looked down, and saw several scratches on the back of his hand, the skin broken.
Fortunately, there was only a little bit of slight bleeding.
Several classmates nearby were startled by the cat's sudden change of expression, which was as quick as turning the pages of a book, and instinctively took two steps back.
The kitten, having successfully struck, slowly retracted its paw, sat on the stone lion, its long fur fluttering in the wind, exuding an air of domineering arrogance.
"Wow, everyone says that a dog that bites doesn't bark, but a cat that scratches doesn't hiss either."
"That must be a stray cat. It has to be fierce to get food."
"Brother Zhou, your wound is bleeding. You should get a rabies vaccine, right?"
"I've had the rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin. Oh my god, the immunoglobulin dosage is calculated based on weight, and it takes several injections, all injected near the wound. It was incredibly painful!"
Yan Zhaozhou's eyelids twitched.
He's not afraid of anything else, but he's quite afraid of pain.
The young master is proud, so even when he gets injured, he stubbornly keeps quiet and pretends to be nonchalant, so no one ever finds out.
Yan Zhaozhou looked at the arrogant little cat, his expression inevitably showing a hint of gritted teeth.
Although he was angry, he admitted that he had impulsively teased the kitten.
The small animals were simply retaliating.
I can only accept my bad luck.
But a boy next to him noticed his unpleasant expression and, thinking he had figured out what he was thinking, turned around and picked up the riot fork next to the security room.
"How can we ignore these dangerous stray cats!"
Holding a fork, he said righteously, "There are so many people at the school gate. What if he suddenly goes crazy and scratches a lot of people?"
His companion agreed, "They should be driven away..."
"I think we should just kill him!"
The boy spoke loudly, a cruel, eager glint in his eyes as he looked at the kitten, recalling the same furry creature that had died at his hands.
The tiny bundle, its body going from warm to icy cold, its cries as it struggled sounded like a baby crying, sending shivers down one's spine and bringing an intense sense of pleasure.
Before anyone could react, he turned the riot fork around, and the long, straight stainless steel rod whistled through the air as he slammed it down on the kitten's head.
Yan Zhaozhou crunched the lollipop, muttered a low curse, and seeing the cat standing there dumbfounded without dodging, he was about to rush forward and scoop the cat out.
"Aww!"
The boy suddenly let out a pained cry, and he and the riot fork tumbled to the side.
With a thud, a worn-out black schoolbag landed before him.
Jiang Yingxu's expression was extremely cold. He strode closer, bent down to pick up the schoolbag on the ground, and looked at the person who had fallen to the ground groaning after being hit on the head. His dark eyes were like an endless icy sea, with a kind of ferocity that seemed to want to devour people.
"Meow--"
The long-haired kitten suddenly opened its mouth, made a sweet meow, and nimbly jumped onto his shoulder.
Shi Miao did something she had been wanting to do all day.
Tilting its head, its fluffy head brushed against Jiang Yingxu's hair, leaving its scent on him.
She meowed.
"Jiang Yingxu, I'm here to pick you up from school!"
As Jiang Yingxu listened to the sweet female voice in his ear, with even the last syllable of it smugly wagging, the anger that had surged in his heart when he saw someone attacking her slowly subsided.
Still worried, he asked in a low voice, "Are you hurt?"
Shi Miao: "He can't hit me, don't worry."
Even without Jiang Yingxu, dodging a stick would be a piece of cake for the little cat demon.
As they spoke, the groans and cries alerted the security guards.
Two security guards pushed through the crowd, looked at the boy who was holding his head, and then at Jiang Yingxu, who had a cold expression and a kitten perched on his shoulder.
"What happened?"
Yan Zhaozhou hooked the riot control fork that had fallen to the ground with his toe, caught it precisely in his hand, and handed it back to the security guard.
He said in a relaxed tone with a lazy smile, "It's nothing. My classmate took your forks to play a joke on someone, but he slipped and fell down."
The security guard glanced to the side. "Is that so?"
Those who had come out with Yan Zhaozhou were startled by the man's earlier remark about wanting to kill the cat.
They instinctively wanted to stay away from him, but then they caught Yan Zhaozhou's gaze and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, yes, He Yi fell down on his own."
"Maybe my foot slipped."
The security guard was slightly relieved, but hearing He Yi keep crying out in pain, he was afraid something might have happened, so he squatted down to ask what was wrong.
Yan Zhaozhou lazily raised his eyes, glanced at the person and cat not far away, and asked with a smile, "Is this your cat?"
Jiang Yingxu replied calmly, "Yes."
Yan Zhaozhou shook the scratches on the back of his hand.
"Dude, your cat has a pretty bad temper. It even gave me a little something to greet me."
Jiang Yingxu didn't even blink, and said calmly, "You've got it wrong. My cat is very well-behaved. She won't even extend her claws. You're the one who insisted on provoking her, aren't you?"
He paused, then tilted his head slightly.
His brows furrowed, and his tone became more genuine.
"If you scratch him, won't your paws get dirty?"
"I'll wash your paws when we get home."
The kitten meowed obediently, as if in agreement.
Yan Zhaozhou: "?"
He couldn't believe it, chuckled, and said sincerely, "Dude, you're really biased."
What kind of evil kitten has been modified into a super cute and silly one?
