Chapter 20: Are we really not going to live like this?

Chapter 20: Are we really not going to live like this?

Jiang Yingxu arrived at the convenience store early, and the boy who had taken over his shift with him yesterday was standing behind the cashier.

His name, Zeng Yu, was engraved on the nameplate on his chest.

"Brother, you're here so early."

Zeng Yu's eyes lit up when he saw Jiang Yingxu enter.

Otherwise, he would still be happy to take shifts with Jiang Yingxu, never procrastinating or causing trouble. If he was occasionally late for school, he would make up for it the next day.

Upon noticing the takeout box in his hand, Zeng Yu couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.

"What a wonderful day it is today! I'm finally able to afford a hot meal."

"Eat your meal first, then hand over your shift to me."

Jiang Yingxu hummed in agreement.

As Jiang Yingxu entered the changing room, he caught sight of a fluffy little paw that was itching to unzip a backpack. He suddenly reached out and poked it down expressionlessly.

Shi Miao: "?"

Jiang Yingxu zipped up the bag with a whoosh and then picked up the whole backpack.

A thick dictionary plus a big, fluffy kitten car.

The weight is something you have to experience to know how heavy it is.

Jiang Yingxu flexed his arm muscles in a smooth arc, as if doing a weightlifting exercise, and stuffed his backpack into the locker with the back facing inwards.

Shi Miao: "??"

The kitten used its hands and feet to pry open the backpack zipper, while the rabbit kicked a few times and then huffed and puffed for a long time before finally poking its head out.

Not noticing the distance, it crashed into the inside of the locker with a bang.

I'm feeling dizzy.

The schoolbag was taken off again, and the kitten saw the light of day once more.

Jiang Yingxu had already changed into her convenience store uniform, her long eyelashes slightly lowered, and a faint smile in her dark eyes.

Shi Miao accused: "You're guarding against the cat!"

What about the trust between humans and cats?

Jiang Yingxu readily agreed: "Yes, I'm sorry."

Shi Miao was misled by the villain's rapid apology, thinking he was genuinely remorseful, and grumbled as she jumped out of her backpack.

"This is a one-time exception!"

Jiang Yingxu didn't answer, but calmly picked up the takeout box.

Yeah, I didn't agree, so I'll do it again next time.

Outside the changing room, there is a small table made of wooden planks, which is convenient for the staff to eat and drink.

Shi Miao jumped onto the table, sat down on the corner, and watched Jiang Yingxu come over after washing his hands and open the takeout box.

While he was ordering, Shi Miao was busy reversing her bicycle in her bag and didn't pay attention.

Now that I look at it...

Cold shredded chicken salad, pineapple beef, and a big box of rice.

Shi Miao: "?"

Shi Miao was shocked and exclaimed, "Are we not going to live our lives anymore?"

Jiang Yingxu: "..."

Jiang Yingxu unpacked the disposable chopsticks and said, "I received a subsidy, so I'll have money from now on. Don't worry."

He saw Shi Miao from afar in the cafeteria at noon.

She ate with great relish, and occasionally shared the taste of the dishes with the system; that relaxed and satisfied feeling was easily contagious.

Jiang Yingxu pretended to be passing by casually and saw the food on her plate.

Sweet and sour pork ribs, honey-glazed chicken wings.

She's a kitten who loves sweet and sour flavors.

She also heard Deng Yi try to distinguish the stir-fried bok choy for her, but Deng Yi repeatedly shook his head and refused.

It's still a kitten that doesn't like to eat vegetables.

That makes sense; cats are carnivores.

Jiang Yingxu picked up a piece of shredded chicken with his chopsticks and held it to Shi Miao's lips.

Shi Miao's pink nose twitched. For some reason, she felt a little embarrassed watching Jiang Yingxu calmly and naturally feed her.

She's not a kitten that needs to be fed.

Shi Miao stomped her paw on the table. "Um, why don't you put it on the lid? I'll eat it myself."

A subtle hint of regret flashed across Jiang Yingxu's eyes.

He took the lid of the takeout box, picked up a few pieces of shredded chicken and pineapple beef, then consulted Shi Miao before adding some rice.

Shi Miao buried her head and ate a couple of bites. Noticing that the boy next to her wasn't making any noise, she looked up in confusion and saw Jiang Yingxu watching her eat very seriously and attentively.

Shi Miao: "You eat it."

Don't stare at the cat like that. You're just like those weird owners who follow their pet cats around like crazy, watching them eat, drink, and go to the toilet, and even chuckling like an idiot.

Jiang Yingxu then looked away and obediently began to eat.

There's a reason why this small stir-fry shop is so popular; the cold shredded chicken is especially fragrant, and the pineapple beef also tastes like it's made with fresh ingredients.

Shi Miao occasionally parted the cucumber strips, took a bite of shredded chicken and a bite of beef cubes, and after enjoying her meal, her fluffy big tail slowly curled up.

clatter.

Jiang Yingxu paused, poked the bottom of the bowl with his disposable chopsticks, and glanced down at it.

The kitten's big, upturned tail landed on his wrist, and with a gentle hook, it formed a unique plush bracelet.

Unique and cute.

It's a unique marking that belongs exclusively to the kitten.

Jiang Yingxu stared at it for a few seconds, enduring the slight itch of the long hair brushing against his wrist, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.

Shi Miao didn't realize that her tail was wrapped around Jiang Yingxu's wrist until she finished eating the food on her plate.

The boy held the chopsticks in his right hand, letting her hold them, but his slender fingers trembled almost imperceptibly, and a faint blush spread across his wrist.

It seems like it was warmed up by her tail.

Shi Miao swiftly retracted her tail—a body part that the cat often couldn't control.

A cat is a cat, and a tail is a tail.

You can't blame the kitten for what its tail did.

Shi Miao blinked her round eyes, tucked her tail over her paws, and looked extremely obedient.

Fortunately, Jiang Yingxu had no intention of reasoning with the kitten's tail; he merely glanced at it indifferently.

After freeing itself from the loose restraints of its tail, it quickened its pace and finished the last bite of food in a few bites.

The long-lost feeling of fullness.

Jiang Yingxu put down his chopsticks, looked up, and saw the kitten cleaning him.

The barbed tongue licked the flower-shaped claws, not even sparing the crevices. The pink, plump pads swayed in mid-air, round and full, making one want to imagine the feeling of pinching them.

Jiang Yingxu unconsciously rubbed his fingertips together, then looked away, his gaze falling on the transparent lid.

The kitten actually ate quite cleanly.

Apart from the cucumber shreds that were pushed into a corner and tangled up.

Jiang Yingxu tapped the lid with his finger, "Picky eater?"

Shi Miao folded her ears back, skillfully employing the instincts of a kitten, pretending not to hear what she didn't want to hear.

She curled up into a black and gold little ball, with only the tips of her ears twitching from time to time, causing her stubborn fur to sway gently.

Jiang Yingxu pulled the lid over, intending to clean it up, but then caught a glimpse of Shi Miao's furtive little eyes drifting over.

It has a strong sense of theft.

Jiang Yingxu paused, a mischievous thought creeping into his mind. He pretended to be serious and picked up a cucumber shred, waving it in front of the kitten.

"It's actually quite fragrant and crunchy. Would you like to try a couple?"

The system wasn't watching the show at the moment. Upon seeing Jiang Yingxu's actions, it shook the data stream and let out a cold laugh.

A naive villain.

Cats—especially that little cat demon, weighing eight pounds but with a rebellious streak weighing seven.

Am I good and sweet?

Hehe, she's faking it.

Overturning things on the table, tearing up intact toilet paper rolls, and doing parkour in the middle of the night are the things kittens love to do.

Asking her to eat shredded vegetables she doesn't like is simply a pipe dream.

The next second, Shi Miao lowered her front paws, slowly moved forward, and hesitated as she sniffed.

Jiang Yingxu was incredibly patient, twirling the cucumber strip between his fingertips, feeling the kitten's warm, wet breath.

Shi Miao frowned slightly, hesitated for a moment, then rolled her tongue and bit into the cucumber strip.

He took a couple of small bites and then gulped it down.

"..."

Jiang Yingxu recoiled as if burned, and faint blue veins appeared on the back of his hand.

Shi Miao's attention was focused on the lush green cucumber strips, and she didn't keep her distance, her tongue licking his fingers.

A slightly moist, barbed cat tongue.

The skin that had been licked felt hot.

A slight pain mixed with a tingling and itchy sensation made it hard to breathe.

The perfect balance of pain and itch creates a subtle craving for indulgence.

Jiang Yingxu lowered his eyes, his long eyelashes concealing the darkness in his gaze. He then picked up another cucumber strip, his low voice tinged with a slight hoarseness.

"Have another one."

Shi Miao flicked the tip of her tail, stared at the cucumber shreds, hesitated again, but still went over and continued eating.

One feeds the other.

The scene was exceptionally beautiful and heartwarming.

The system slowly typed out a question mark.

Who are you? Didn't some cat swear it would never eat vegetables on its own in its entire life?

What about all the advice and coaxing it received, which the cat ignored?

Is it just that it talks too much?

Shi Miao's tongue darted to the side and licked Jiang Yingxu's fingers again.

Hearing the system's resentful words, she felt inexplicably guilty and laughed it off.

[This is a human being raised by a cat, so the cat should give him some respect.]

This is a one-time exception; there will be no next time!

【real! 】

Shi Miao bit into the last cucumber strip, chewed it perfunctorily, and swallowed it.

We've finally finished eating.

She breathed a sigh of relief and saw Jiang Yingxu's fair fingertips, slightly stained with sauce, so close to her. Her feline cleaning instinct kicked in, and without thinking, she grabbed Jiang Yingxu's hand with both paws and licked it with her tongue.

"——"

Jiang Yingxu's breath hitched.
