Chapter 36 His Cat God.

Chapter 36 His Cat God.

Night was falling.

The kitten was sleeping on its back, belly up, its precious bird toy kicked into a corner of the clothes pile.

Jiang Yingxu lay on his back on the wooden bed, but it wasn't long enough, so he could only let his legs dangle off the bed.

Not a very comfortable position.

But I've gotten used to it.

"Bang!"

A muffled thud suddenly came from the direction of the master bedroom.

Jiang Yingxu suddenly woke up, and in the blink of an eye he sat up, his back slightly hunched, his muscles tense, like a beast ready to pounce.

His dark eyes were calm yet wary, and his fingertips had already reached up to the fruit knife wrapped in paper in the gap by the bedside.

The tinnitus that had startled me awake gradually subsided.

Jiang Yingxu also heard more noises from the master bedroom.

The sound of crying.

Aunt Jiang broke down in tears, while Uncle Jiang grumbled and cursed in frustration. The couple argued for a few moments, their voices sharp and high-pitched, but quickly subsided, probably because they were afraid of waking Jiang Tianhao in the next room.

After a while, the noise gradually subsided, and Uncle Jiang's snoring resumed.

"..."

Jiang Yingxu was temporarily wide awake and turned his head to look at Shi Miao.

Felines are always very alert when they sleep.

Except for kittens.

Shi Miao was still fast asleep, oblivious to the noise in the master bedroom, her snow-white, hairy belly rising and falling slightly with her breathing.

She was serene and peaceful.

Jiang Yingxu loosened his grip on the fruit knife, looked at her for a while, and seemed to be infected by her tranquility before lying back down on the bed.

He didn't know what Jiang's uncle and aunt were arguing about, but it was always the same few points over and over again.

My uncle is an alcoholic and rarely comes home. When he does come back drunk, my aunt has to take care of him.

Jiang Tianhao needed to pay for textbooks and tutoring fees again. Because he had previously tried to steal money under various pretexts, his aunt had to call the homeroom teacher to confirm each time. If she weren't so strict, Jiang Tianhao wouldn't have tried to take advantage of him in the first place.

My aunt had a bad day at work and came home to complain to my uncle. She was so angry that he started crying and cursing when he said, "It takes two to tango, you're also at fault."

Jiang Yingxu stared at the balcony ceiling, silently calculating the money in his hand.

He used to leave early and return late every day, so he rarely saw his uncle and aunt. He just needed a place to sleep at night, which is why he had been living here.

But now I have a kitten by my side.

Jiang Yingxu wanted to provide her with a better environment, rather than making her suffer by having to sleep on this stuffy and cramped balcony with him every day.

School dormitories cost a few hundred yuan a year, but they are four-person rooms, which are not suitable for bringing a kitten.

He could rent a cheap single room nearby; if he cleaned it up, it would be a decent place to stay. But the residents were a mixed bag, and he was worried that it might spoil the kitten.

I thought and thought, and I don't even know when I fell asleep.

When Jiang Yingxu opened his eyes again, it was already dawn.

The competition class didn't require students to arrive at 6:30 like they did for morning reading, but they weren't much later, and class started promptly at 7:30.

Jiang Yingxu got up at the usual time, moving quietly so as not to disturb the kitten who didn't have to go to school today.

He quickly washed up, drew the curtain beside the wooden bed, picked up his schoolbag, and went out.

The first rays of dawn were breaking on the horizon.

Those who get up and move around so early are either students going to school or elderly people who go to bed early and get up early but don't get much sleep.

When Jiang Yingxu went downstairs, he indeed saw an old man and woman wearing loose-fitting Tai Chi clothes slowly practicing Tai Chi in the low-rise fenced courtyard on the first floor.

He was about to leave.

But then the two men mentioned his name.

"You haven't been having nightmares lately, have you?"

"No, I slept perfectly fine." The old man practiced Tai Chi. "You're talking about the Jiang family upstairs, aren't you?"

The old woman said, "I actually asked yesterday. Apart from their family, no one in our building has been having nightmares lately, let alone having nightmares every day."

The old lady was a little hard of hearing. She thought she was speaking softly, but her voice was actually quite loud and full of energy.

"I think they're getting their just desserts!"

"Otherwise, how could it be so strange that all three members of the family are having nightmares at the same time, and it only happens when they are at home?"

"Don't forget, this house was originally bought by Xiaoxu's parents."

The old man smacked his lips.

"It's strange. When they came back yesterday, did you see them? They all had such dark circles under their eyes, and they looked listless, like they were being haunted by something."

The old man lowered his voice, holding the word "ghost" very softly in his mouth, cautiously not daring to utter it.

"I wonder how Xiaoxu is doing?"

The old woman said, "I saw Xiaoxu going to school yesterday morning. He's such a smart and energetic young man, he's wonderful."

"Let me tell you, there are a lot of people in the underworld. You have to wait in line and draw lots to be reincarnated. Maybe Xiao Xu's parents didn't get a number, so they came up to check on him and found him being bullied like this. Wouldn't they be angry and teach him a lesson?"

"Yesterday at noon, Chen Xiumei was taking a nap at home when she suddenly yelled, 'Don't look for me if it's not me,' did you hear that?"

"They're feeling guilty!"

The old man scratched his head: "That's too late, Xiaoxu is already eighteen."

The old woman had a confident air about her being certain of victory.

"You don't understand! They say a day in heaven is a year on earth, so the time in the underworld must be different from ours. Xiao Xu's parents queued for a few days, thinking it wouldn't matter if they came up a little late, but when they looked, almost ten years had already passed!"

The elderly couple had a more detailed discussion about the flow of time in the heavens and on earth.

Jiang Yingxu stood there, suddenly snapping back to reality.

He recalled the unusual noises in the master bedroom that night: his aunt's terrified cries and his uncle's irritable scolding.

Jiang Yingxu did not believe in any ghosts or gods.

So many years have passed, if we wanted to retaliate, we would have done so long ago.

The only unexpected thing was...

He gripped the strap of his schoolbag tightly, turned around abruptly, and strode upstairs.

Opening the door and pulling the curtain were done in one smooth motion.

Jiang Yingxu knelt down beside the bed and stared intently at the sleeping kitten.

—It's clearly him who has a little cat demon by his side.

A soft-hearted, kind, spoiled, and considerate cat king.

A promise is a promise.

They really are protecting him.

His cat god.

-

The system will power on from hibernation at the set time.

As soon as I turned on the computer, I saw Jiang Yingxu squatting by the bed, staring intently at the kitten.

system:【? 】

Within Shi Miao's consciousness, the system shared the same perspective as Shi Miao, meeting Jiang Yingxu's dark, inky eyes that concealed countless emotions. For some reason, the data flowed erratically for a moment.

Intelligent life forms all felt a chilling sense of danger, as if they were being targeted by a large, ferocious beast and about to be devoured.

It subconsciously woke Shi Miao.

Wake up, something's off with the main villain.

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Yingxu frowned, and a hint of displeasure flashed across his eyes.

The system was still calling Shi Miao, but she didn't notice.

The fact that mechanical life forms are endowed with the ability to sense emotions and possess personalities that are similar to humans is both a good thing, perfecting their machine nature, and a bad thing, easily leading to problems.

For example, a system that claims to be a skilled veteran doesn't necessarily possess a sufficiently meticulous nature.

Otherwise, it would have noticed long ago that in an inconspicuous corner of the settings, the button called "Connection Sharing" was silently glowing a pale green light, indicating that it was running.

—On the first day I came into this world, I was slapped by a kitten, which caused the system data stream to be reversed and accidentally triggered, and it has not been turned off since.

The system didn't detect the villain's displeasure at being woken up, and after a series of poking and prodding, finally woke the kitten up.

The kitten was still half asleep, blinking its sleepy eyes, lying in the pile of clothes, tilting its head to look at Jiang Yingxu.

She yawned. "System, something's not right?"

The system looked at the screen suspiciously, then replied, "[...I don't know, it's just a feeling.]"

Shi Miao remained silent: [Are you sure you're not mistaken about memory overload? Try clearing the database when you have time.]

Jiang Yingxu remained calm and showed no sign of anything amiss.

Instead, as she woke up, his cold expression softened. "Awake?"

He asked, "I have tutoring today, does Meow Meow want to come with me?"
