Chapter 120

The next day, the sky was clear and the wind was light, which was a perfect time for an autumn outing.

I sat in the driver's seat, started the car, and started this happy journey. Xu Tong held Xixi in her arms and sat in the passenger seat. Xixi opened her round eyes and looked around curiously, her little face full of excitement. Xiaomei sat in the back seat, leaning forward, her clear eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Xiaomei suppressed her curiosity and asked, "Uncle Guan, where are we going to play today?"

I deliberately kept it a secret, raised the corners of my mouth slightly, and said mysteriously: "34 years ago, a baby boy was born. Today we are going to the place where he was born and grew up."

Xiaomei had a puzzled look on her face, her eyes wide open, and asked innocently: "Who is Yu Si? Is he very powerful?" That ignorant look made me laugh.

Xu Tong tried not to laugh after hearing this, turned around, and gently explained to Xiaomei: "'Yu Si' can be a name. Here, 'Yu Si' refers to the hometown where your uncle Guan was born and raised, that is, his former residence."

After hearing this, Xiaomei curled her lips slightly and said, "I thought it was some special place. It's called a former residence only if a famous person has lived there. Uncle Guan, you are not famous."

As soon as she finished speaking, she couldn't help laughing, and the car was instantly filled with laughter.

If the sky is filled with love, it will also grow old. I don't know when I started to feel sentimental and sad.

Perhaps it was because I had not stepped into this old house that carried my childhood memories for a long time, and looking at it from afar, I had the feeling of returning home when I was young. The past, which was once clear, has become vague and mottled as time passes. When the familiar wooden door came into view, the scenes of laughing and playing with my friends in my childhood came flooding back like a tide, and one by one, they revived in my memory like sand grains forming a tower.

I leaned forward slightly, pointed at the slightly shabby old house, and asked Xixi beside me softly: "Baby, can you still remember? You also lived here for a while."

Xixi raised her childish little face, her eyes sparkling, and said excitedly: "Dad, I remember! Grandpa also took me to drive ducks, and the ducks ran so fast!" Those innocent words instantly made the memory more warm.

Xiaomei at the side curled her lips and muttered softly: "If I had known that I would come to this kind of place, I would have come earlier. I don't think there is anything fun here." There was a hint of loss in her voice and her expression was a little lonely.

Looking at her appearance, my heart tightened, and I instantly understood what she was thinking. This farm-like scene must have reminded her of her deceased father. Those happy times spent with my father must have turned into bitterness and nostalgia in my heart.

I gave Xu Tong a look with a calm expression, handed the key to the old house to her, and said softly, "Open the door first and take Xixi in. I'll take Xiaomei to a special place."

Xu Tong understood, nodded with a smile, took Xixi's hand, pushed open the creaking door, and walked into the yard.

I turned around and said to Xiaomei gently, "Xiaomei, get in the car."

Along the way, Xiaomei sat quietly in the back seat. She turned her head to the window, staring at the scenery passing by quickly with empty eyes. She looked depressed and had lost her former liveliness. She seemed to be shrouded in an invisible sadness.

The distance from my hometown to Tongxiang Town is quite far, about two minutes’ drive. The wheels rolled briskly on the road, and outside the window the fields, trees and houses flashed by quickly like a slide show.
