Chapter 242

It was past one in the morning when I returned to the hotel. I tiptoed into the back room. The TV was still on, replaying the Olympic Games at full volume.

Cui Yingying lay on her side in bed, her silk pajamas framing her curves. I took a second look—her voluptuous yet unrestrained curves, unlike simple fat accumulation, revealed the lines of well-trained muscle. Seeing these things, she seemed like a completely different person.

Could it be that she really became a fitness expert and even developed abdominal muscles?

Seeing that she was sleeping soundly, I couldn't bear to disturb her and quietly turned off the TV with the remote control. I retreated to the outer room and lay down on the sofa.

In the dark room, I rested my head on my arms, unable to fall asleep for a long time.

My experiences that night brought me close to the city's inner circle of power, and I was deeply impressed by the insight and integrity of the man in power.

I know very well that I am not the kind of martyr who is willing to go through fire and water for my faith, but there is something that has been deeply rooted in my life - that is the indelible kindness that has been instilled in me from my family.

It is this underlying quality that has always given me an instinctive affinity for justice. Even though I have witnessed much of the world's turbidity and seen the dark shadows deep within humanity, I still firmly believe that despite all the vicissitudes of life, the world ultimately has its weight and warmth.

Now, this sense of justice surging through my veins has brought peace to my nights. My parasympathetic nervous system has lost its power to soothe my soul, and for a long time I have been suspended on the border between sleep and wakefulness, as if I were on a hazy sea, my consciousness rising and falling with the waves, sometimes sinking into dreams, sometimes floating back into reality.

I don’t know how long I have been floating in the chaos, but suddenly a rainstorm comes.

Without warning, huge raindrops poured down, drenching me with the rushing water. I sank into the damp heat, feeling as if I had become one with the downpour.

Then, just as suddenly as it had arrived, the rain stopped. All was silent, save for a gentle spring breeze that caressed my face. A warmth rose from the depths of my heart, spreading to every pore, immersing me in a silent tranquility.

In this tranquility, a glint of light quietly approached. Its dark brown luster was as deep as a black hole, emitting a power that devoured everything. And yet, in that moment, I broke free from all restraints—I let myself fly, my soul wandering among the boundless, snow-white peaks and plateaus.

At this moment of self-flying, a faint touch brushed my nose.

I was suddenly shocked and fell back to reality from the ethereal dream.

I opened my eyes, and a breathtaking scene suddenly crashed into my view, bringing with it a silent visual storm. Cui Yingying was hunched over the sofa, her body fully stretched out, her skin still dotted with wet water droplets, reflecting a subtle light. Her hazy eyes stared at me, their gaze as watery as a deep, gentle light.

She asked softly, "When did you come back?"

"A little after one o'clock," I replied.

There was a hint of deliberate joy in her tone: "I've waited for you for so long."

I stretched my stiff body and said, "It's important. Please leave."

She pouted and patted me: "Go to bed, the sofa is comfortable."

I slowly sat up, took a deep breath, and tried to steady my dazed mind. The images in my dream began to overlap with reality—the torrential rain must have been the sound of her bathing; the spring breeze was her breath caressing my cheek; and the snow-capped mountains that filled my heart with white...

Everything seems like a dream, but it is more real than a dream.
