Chapter 12 Kite

After taking the pulse and finding everything normal, the four of us went to the large courtyard of the Back Spring Garden. The princess's maid Xiaohua just brought in four kites.

The princess picked a butterfly. It turned out that Song Heng was just accompanying her and had no intention of playing. I looked at the three: a hibiscus bird, an eagle, and a swallow.

I took the eagle without thinking. I used to play with eagles when flying kites in the park, so I habitually held the eagle in my hand.

Song Heng looked up at me, but I didn't care. I turned around to see what Doctor Jiang would take. Doctor Jiang was just planning to watch from the side, but Princess Rushuang begged Doctor Jiang to join in, so Doctor Jiang had to give up.

At this moment, I actually feel that Doctor Jiang has more potential than Song Heng. Tsk tsk tsk, Song Heng must have a sense of crisis.

The princess was wearing a pink dress and running around the yard with a pink butterfly kite, just like two butterflies dancing, a truly poetic and picturesque scene. Unfortunately, the kite would not fly and would fall to the ground from time to time.

As expected, the story of the hero and heroine was about to begin. Song Heng stood up and stepped forward to help her hold up the butterfly. Because of Song Heng's tall and slender height advantage, after Ru Shuang ran for a while, the kite naturally flew into the air.

Growing up, I often flew kites in the nearby park. Flying high was a piece of cake for me, and I easily sent an eagle soaring into the azure sky. Of course, I tactfully didn't let the eagle fly higher than a butterfly; I knew the importance of knowing when to stop.

The grounds of Houchun Garden are vast, and the hero and heroine, being led by a kite, have already reached the other side. I turned my head and saw that Doctor Jiang's swallow, like the princess's original butterfly, couldn't fly either. I couldn't help but laugh, "Doctor Jiang, it turns out there are things you're not good at!"

Jiang Chen was not annoyed: "A thread is indeed harder to hold than a needle."

Hearing him say that, I laughed even more happily: "Since you saved me with the needle, I will repay you with the thread!"

The servants in Houchun Garden had all left, leaving only the four of us. Song Heng had been playing along with me, but the princess had already figured out our act. Imperial Physician Jiang wasn't at the center of any power struggle, nor was she a gossipmonger, so I didn't need to act like a concubine anymore.

I handed him the handle of my eagle: "I'll fly your swallow for a while and then give it back to you!"

Swallows are indeed harder to fly than eagles. I trotted back and forth for a long time before the swallow finally flew up. When I turned around to return it to Doctor Jiang, I found that he was looking at Princess Rushuang in the distance, as if thinking about something.

Alas, my heart softened and I didn't call out to him. I'd said to let nature take its course, and I sincerely hoped that Doctor Jiang would come to his senses on his own. But seeing the loss in his eyes was too much to bear. It would be torture to let him watch any longer.

I simply ran behind him, deliberately used the swallow's thin line in my hand to wrap around the eagle's line and then pulled it. He felt the strangeness of the thin line in his hand and finally came to his senses.

I deliberately joked: "Oh, the eagle is going to eat the swallow!"

He finally laughed when he heard this: "Isn't the swallow going to eat the eagle?"

I chuckled as well, taking the opportunity to whisper, "Nothing matters except life and death, Doctor Jiang. It's all fleeting!"

He was stunned for a moment and finally nodded at me: "Thank you, Miss Mu."

I was just about to wave my hands and say it was okay, but as I was walking backwards with the kite in my hand, I somehow tripped over a stone, slipped, and fell to the ground.

He quickly came forward to help me. The lines of the swallow and eagle had been tangled together. This time, because I pulled his hand, he dropped the handle, and the two kites slowly fell from the sky and hit us directly on the head.

We looked at each other in surprise, and then burst out laughing together.

"Mr. Jiang—" Ru Shuang and Song Heng had returned to their original place at some point, and the voice calling for Doctor Jiang suddenly stopped halfway.

Doctor Jiang pulled me up and immediately let go of my hand. I instinctively took a few steps back, and the kite slid to the gravel ground. Birdsong filled the forest, and at this moment, Houchun Garden was unusually quiet.

Doctor Jiang is afraid that the princess will misunderstand. Although I know that Doctor Jiang and Princess Rushuang are impossible, I don’t want them to have any grudges because of me.

I explained awkwardly, "I was flying a kite just now and didn't notice the rocks on the ground, so I fell. Doctor Jiang was kind enough to help me up."

Ru Shuang nodded thoughtfully and looked at Doctor Jiang. Doctor Jiang nodded and said, "Lady Mu is also kind enough to help me fly the kite. I'm sorry that Your Majesty and the Princess worried."

The princess walked forward and indeed saw the stone on the ground. She suddenly kicked it away with a soft and playful voice: "I told you to throw my sister Mu! Humph!" I was immediately amused by Princess Rushuang. I knew that this meant she was no longer angry.

Song Heng was still standing there, the sunlight shining on him but I felt inexplicably cold.

I watched as the princess next to me started teasing Doctor Jiang for not knowing how to fly a kite. The two of them started chatting happily again as usual in my yard, and suddenly I understood where the coldness came from.

Alas, it would be better for you two to just fly kites over there. Now, isn't it your own fault that you put the heroine here with the male second? Although I sympathize with you, there is nothing I can do. As a spectator, I will just let it go.
