Chapter 23 Arm

"Awake?" Song Heng stood at the head of my bed: "Are you still feeling unwell?"

I tried moving my shoulders and arms, and everything went smoothly, just like I had just woken up, though my head was still a little fuzzy. "It feels pretty good..."

He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then closed it again and just looked at me quietly.

I felt a little uncomfortable being stared at by him. I turned my head to look out the window and found that it was already pitch black. It turned out to be night. "I slept for so long?"

"Um."

There was another silence.

Something suddenly occurred to me: "How is Wang Cairen?" This was the first time I put into practice what I had learned about CPR, and I didn't know how effective it would be.

"I woke up in the afternoon." Then he added, "Earlier than you."

"Oh." Maybe it was because it was night, the quiet atmosphere prevented me from having too many emotional fluctuations.

"Doctor Jiang said that your trip into the water this time will delay the cure for your stomach colic."

"Huh?" I cried out subconsciously, and then I could only accept my fate: "Okay."

I quietly looked at the darkness outside the carved window. Gradually, a crescent moon emerged. Through the intricate carved wood grain, I could see its clear and quiet light.

After a long while, I heard him ask softly, "Can I sleep here today?"

I turned to look at him in surprise. As usual, he didn't show much expression. After not seeing him for a long time, he seemed much more tired.

I understood what he meant. I moved my whole body in the quilt and waved my arms to prove that I was indeed fine. Then I smiled and said, "Your Majesty, you are joking. This world belongs to Your Majesty. You can sleep wherever you want with just a word."

He didn't continue chatting with me, but just took the quilt and put it on the head of the bed, then turned off the light, and finally took off his outer robe and slept on the outside of the bed.

"Didn't Your Majesty say not to cover ourselves with two quilts?" I immediately seized the opportunity to tease him after he lay down. I had just woken up and had so much energy that I didn't know where to put it.

"You can't catch a cold again." He said in a calm voice.

"Hmm..." I always feel that he is very serious today, but it is different from the usual seriousness of an emperor.

"Chen Shuang," he suddenly said in the darkness, "Think about yourself before saving others."

"Um..." I was a little stunned when I heard him suddenly call my name, and the subsequent reprimand made me even more confused.

"Okay, go to sleep." His voice was so soft that it even made me feel a little gentle, like the clear moonlight outside the window.

His breathing gradually became steady, and I drifted off to sleep. But perhaps because I had slept too long during the day, I woke up in the middle of the night and turned to find him sleeping soundly, facing me.

What's more, his right arm was actually placed on my waist through the quilt!

From the first night when I was in excruciating stomach cramps, and after he pretended to comfort me, we haven't had any physical contact since then. Even when we slept in the same bed, we always maintained a safe distance and neither of us overstepped the line.

After thinking it over calmly, I concluded that he must have been dreaming and not paying attention, so I carefully supported his arm and thoughtfully tucked it back into his blanket. Afterward, I felt so considerate, having saved him an embarrassing moment, and so I drifted off to sleep contentedly.
