"My lady, the hot water is ready." Xiao Cui came to my bed and called me in a gentle voice.
"Let's go," I closed my eyes and lay on the bed: "I want to rest now."
"But His Majesty specifically instructed us..." she reminded in a low voice.
"I've already said it!" I was actually a little angry, but then my voice softened: "I'm sleepy, you guys should go and rest too."
"Yes..." Xiao Cui and Xiao Tao helped me turn off the lights and then quietly retreated. It was pitch black all around, as if immersed in endless thick ink.
"Oh! My dear, why is your forehead so hot!" I heard Xiao Tao's voice in a daze in the morning and fell into a deep sleep again. I felt hot all over and wanted to kick the quilt, but someone covered me again and again.
When I woke up again, I vaguely saw a pair of inky eyes looking at me. I forced myself to open my eyes - it turned out to be Doctor Jiang.
"How does Concubine Mu feel now?" he asked gently.
"I still feel a little dizzy," he said, realizing his voice was hoarse. "I have a fever, don't I?"
"Well, her temperature should have returned to normal by now," he replied. "I'll write another prescription to soothe Concubine's throat later."
"Thank you, Doctor Jiang." I tried to speak clearly.
"Mu Jieyu, have a good rest and try to speak less these days." He reminded her, "You will be fine soon."
I nodded, and he gave a few instructions to Xiao Cui and Xiao Tao before leaving with the medicine box.
Xiao Cui helped me change the warm towel on my forehead and said, "It's all my fault. I should have dragged you out of bed and given you a bath yesterday."
I held her hand and shook my head to indicate that it had nothing to do with her. Xiao Tao cried beside her, "What will we do if His Majesty finds out later..."
"You guys go away first. I want to rest for a while alone." I asked them to go away in a hoarse voice, and then I closed my eyes and took a nap for a while.
Now that my mind is clearer, I'm wondering what I was doing yesterday for no apparent reason. It was clearly a strategic alliance that benefited both parties, so why was I still so confused...
He turned over and talked to himself, thinking that it was understandable that he was intoxicated by the beauty for a while, but no one is perfect, so he fell asleep again while mumbling.
In the evening, Song Heng came to Chenshuang Pavilion wearing a bright yellow dragon robe. I had taken medicine in the afternoon and had already felt much better. I was sitting at the head of the bed reading a storybook. When I heard his footsteps, I looked up and smiled at him naturally.
He walked quickly to the bed and asked, "Didn't I tell you yesterday to remember to take a hot bath?"
"I was too sleepy and forgot about it." I turned another page of the storybook. Patients don't always have to worry about so many etiquette.
He seemed to want to say something, but in the end he just sat on the edge of the bed and called out to the door, "Ah Fu."
Eunuch Ah Fu walked respectfully to the bedside, holding a stack of books. "Your Majesty."
He turned to look at me and said, "These are the new batch of storybooks that have arrived at the library. Take a look and see if there are any you like. If you like, please keep them."
I blinked curiously at the pile of books and reached out to flip through them. As expected of a palace novel, even the paper was smooth and slippery. I kept a few and bowed slightly to the emperor. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
After he gestured for Ah Fu to leave, he looked at me with a frown. I touched my face uncomfortably and said, "Your Majesty, is there something on my face?"
He was silent for a moment. "You seem a little different today than usual."
"Really?" I smiled. "Patients and healthy people are always different."
"That's not what I meant." He denied, then softened his tone: "I said you don't have to call me 'concubine' when it's just the two of us."
"Yes," I said respectfully.
He paused for a moment and said, "You should go to bed early and don't read the storybook too late."
"Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty."
His frown deepened, and he finally left the room, dressed in a bright yellow dragon robe. I closed the book in my hand, not even bothering to get out of bed to turn off the light, and fell into a deep sleep again.
