Chapter 34 Awakening

The room was filled with a light fragrance that made people feel calm and relaxed. I slowly opened my eyes, and two familiar faces leaned over, instantly blocking out the original light.

"What are you two doing?" I felt like I had a good dreamless sleep and had just woken up.

Suddenly, a chaotic stream of images flooded in, up to the moment I was picked up by someone. I jumped up and asked, "What's going on now?"

Amidst their fragmented explanations, I quickly surveyed my unfamiliar surroundings. A prison wouldn't be possible. Could it be that I'd already reached heaven? Tsk, it's still ancient and charming.

"So the emperor brought me to Chengqing Palace yesterday?" I summarized for them.

They nodded.

"So, am I now..." I didn't know how to put it: "A sinner or...?"

They were stunned for a moment. Xiao Cui's eyes were bloodshot, as if she hadn't slept all night. "Your Majesty had Doctor Sun imprisoned yesterday. My lady, you are innocent. Your Majesty has never blamed you."

I shook my arm. It turned out the intention wasn't to harm me, but to harm Doctor Jiang: Doctor Sun of the Imperial Hospital had long been jealous of Doctor Jiang. He'd overheard the time Doctor Jiang and I had agreed to meet, and, taking advantage of the fact that many doctors were attending the Empress Dowager, he'd secretly added an ingredient to the medicine Doctor Jiang had brewed, hoping to ruin his reputation. But in the end, whether out of soft-heartedness or guilt, he rushed to the Cining Palace early to complain to the old doctor, who arrived just in time to prevent any harm between us.

I suddenly remembered Doctor Jiang's painful cry yesterday: "Where's Doctor Jiang? Is he okay?"

The two hesitated, and I threw back the quilt and got out of bed. Only then did I hear Xiao Cui lean over and say, "Doctor Jiang took the antidote and got better yesterday."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"But...but Doctor Jiang's legs were burned, and he needs to rest in bed for a while..."

In just a few words, I understood the sound of "clang", the cry of pain, and what he meant by "don't worry" - he knocked over the medicine on the stove, letting the boiling medicine pour all over his legs, so that even if he couldn't control himself, he couldn't get close to me.

I rushed out of the palace, and Xiaotao and Xiaocui hurriedly chased after me. Before the guards standing at the door could react to what was happening to me, I had already run out of Chengqing Palace, but Xiaotao and Xiaocui were stopped.

I grabbed a maid on the road and asked how to get to the Imperial Hospital. She pointed in my direction, startled. When I reached the back, exhausted, I could only walk quickly. I stumbled upon Princess Rushuang and Song Heng standing face to face behind a rustling bamboo forest. Princess Rushuang was shaking all over, seemingly crying.

If it were any other time, I might have secretly hidden myself away without any moral principles and watched how the story developed between the hero and heroine, but at this moment I just wanted to rush to the Imperial Hospital as soon as possible.

I pushed open a door and was greeted by a strong aroma of herbs. It was the first time I saw Doctor Jiang with his hair flying. He was sitting on the couch reading a book. The light in the room was not good, but his position was where a bright light came in from the window.

He looked up and saw me, and smiled again, that warm smile like melting snow: "Mu Jieyu is recovering very quickly."

I walked to the edge of the bed - one of his legs was covered with the quilt, but the other calf was exposed outside, completely unrecognizable.

The air seemed to stagnate for a moment. He gently placed the open book page on the headboard, looked up and smiled, "It's just scary to look at, but it's not actually that painful."

My throat seemed to be blocked by something and I couldn't utter a word for a long time.

He said slowly, "Someone tried to kill me, but in the end it was just a burn. But I'm sincerely sorry for causing trouble for Concubine Mu."

"How long will it take to recover? Will there be any root cause of the disease?" I stared at him.

"It won't last long, and it won't leave any root of disease. It's just a burn on the skin." He said calmly, "I am confident in my medical skills."

"You then..." Actually, I wanted to say that he didn't have to do that, but suddenly I thought that it seemed that he had no choice but to do that, and I was speechless for a moment.

He suddenly recited like a scholar: "Except life and death, nothing is important, Concubine Mu. Everything is just passing clouds."

I was so confused that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He brought up another matter: "Your Majesty was wise this time and didn't punish us. But Concubine Mu is deeply favored by the Emperor after all. This incident may have some impact on Concubine Mu. I am truly sorry."

I shook my head, "Nothing." After listening to his story, I realized that Song Heng had heard Imperial Physician Sun whispering to the old Imperial Physician in the Cining Palace the day before, and that they had come to the Imperial Hospital together. Imperial Physician Sun was truly a manipulative person. When he filed the complaint, it was clear he was implicated, and when the Emperor asked for the antidote, he confessed everything.
