Chapter 70 Farewell

I really admire this period of Ziqi's sharpness more and more. Not long after I lay down and closed my eyes, I heard Xiaotao and Xiaocui outside the door bowing and greeting "Long live Your Majesty".

The sound was immediately muffled, the door opening and footsteps becoming incredibly quiet. I feigned sleep, lying on my back with my eyes closed, listening for any movement.

He didn't turn on the light for a long time. I just felt that he walked to the edge of my bed and then there was no sound.

I felt a little better after chatting with Duan Xiao tonight, but when I knew he was coming, my chest started to feel heavy again because of what I had experienced during the day.

I wanted to open my eyes quickly and ask why I had disappeared during the day, but then I thought of the princess and Liuzhu Pavilion and felt that asking such questions was pointless. Why bother struggling to pull out a nail that had been nailed to the board? If I pulled it out, I would really have to face a bloody scene.

Because it was winter, the chirping of insects and crickets had long since disappeared and the air was silent.

He didn't say anything and I closed my eyes, so naturally I couldn't even make out his every move.

Time passed by little by little in the endless darkness. I even wondered if he had left long ago, or maybe he had never come at all, and it was just a dream because I was too sleepy.

Just when I was about to fall asleep due to the sleepiness I couldn't resist, I suddenly felt someone gently holding the hair that was scattered beside my ear.

My body froze, and he stopped moving, then sighed softly—

What is he sighing about?

Suddenly, I remembered something: Didn't he go to Liuzhu Pavilion tonight? Why did he come to my place in the middle of the night?

A lot of things were about to come out, and the desire to open my eyes and ask him immediately was like a flame burning in my heart, but he started to move again.

He combed the hair on that side of my head and gently put it down. Then I heard slow but very light footsteps - he left.

I woke up before dawn the next day, but I didn't expect that someone else woke up earlier than me.

After getting dressed and washing up, I met Princess Shengyang in the courtyard of Chenxiang Pavilion. The first time I saw her, I almost ran back to sleep because it was too dreamy.

Princess Shengyang's long braids, which were as thin as willow branches in March, disappeared without a trace, and her hair was shaved neatly into a short one that reached her earlobes.

With a tight and neat red dress and a gleaming dagger with intricate patterns on her waist, she really looks like the female knights or assassins in the storybooks.

I froze in my tracks, and she ran towards me happily, "Mu Zhaoyi."

"You, your hair..." I hesitated for a long time, having a very ominous premonition.

"Yeah, I cut them all off!" She shrugged frankly, as if she was just talking about losing a hair.

"So...what is the cut hair...?" I asked tentatively.

She turned her head away shyly: "You were the one who told me that we were born with the same aspirations..."

"Hmm..." My heart beat faster and faster: "So... you gave them all away...?"

"Hmm..." She became even more embarrassed, and her face began to turn red.

Oh my god! So much hair, and they gave it all to Song Yu?

Is Song Yu buying hair?

"Did he ask you anything..." I started tremblingly.

"Ah?" Duan Sheng was a little confused, then he smiled: "Oh, Mu Zhaoyi, I will certainly not hide this. I said it was you who told me..."

???

!!!

I can already imagine the scene where Song Yu is chasing me and beating me madly with a bunch of hair.

Fortunately, he is going to war, so he can vent his anger on the enemy.

Shivering.

"Mu Zhaoyi, I asked you to come here today because I want to take you to one last place." Duan Sheng obviously didn't notice that my smile was uglier than crying, and said in a good mood.

"Ah? Where?" I tried hard to get rid of my panic and fear, and kept repeating to myself that nothing is more important than life and death.

"Zuo Yaomen." She gave me a sly smile: "I'm about to leave, I hope Mu Zhaoyi won't disobey me."

"Where's Song Yu?" I asked subconsciously. Could it be that he had made an appointment to go out and beat me up in a place where there were no one around?

"Ah?" Duan Sheng immediately replied: "No."

"Why does Concubine Mu ask about Song Yu?" She then squinted her eyes alertly at me, like a kitten with its fur standing up to protect its dried fish.

"No, hahaha..." I covered it up: "Because I always feel that where there is Miss Duan, there is usually Prince Yu!"

"No way!" Duan Sheng relaxed and returned to her shy little girl's demeanor. She took my hand and said, "Just a moment, just a moment."

After informing Xiaotao and Xiaocui, I went to Zuoyaomen with her. Although I was hesitant, I knew that Duan Sheng would not be the one who wanted to harm me, and she was leaving today, so I was indeed reluctant to let her go.

Zuoyaomen is a small side gate out of the palace. It seems even more deserted and lonely after passing through the many palace gates.

After passing through another long arched palace gate, I looked up and saw a person standing next to Zuo Yaomen in the distance.

The silver armor gleamed in the sun, and the red tassel on the helmet was bright and eye-catching.

Duan Xiao stood there with his hands behind his back. His youthful face was half-hidden by the silver armor of his helmet. He looked even more majestic in his military armor. Under the sunlight, he looked like a bright god on an altar.

His peach blossom eyes were slightly raised, the vermilion palace walls complemented his silver-gray armor, and he smiled at me naturally when he saw me coming.

"My brother has something to tell you, so I won't sit in on the class." Duan Sheng winked at me and then added, "Don't worry, no one will come around, and I'll keep an eye on it."

I still felt something was amiss, but Duan Sheng said firmly, "Your Majesty and I are old friends. My brother won't overstep his bounds this time. He just wanted to say goodbye to you."
