The yard was filled with golden ginkgo leaves, just like large auspicious clouds embroidered with gold thread in my hands.
I am Wang Jiaoyun, the youngest daughter of the Wang family. My father is a fourth-rank counselor. Others say that he is a very strict person.
When I was little, my mother would often sit in the courtyard holding me and nag, "Hey! Your father must be arguing with someone in the court again, and he hasn't come back yet!"
I would sit on my mother's lap stupidly, giggling and waiting for my father to come back.
He would always come in with a furious expression, but as soon as he saw my mother and me, his expression would immediately change to a smile. He would reach out and pick me up, tickling me with the stubble on his chin, which would make me giggle even more.
Yes, those who say his engravings are good are others, but not me!
If there is anything in the world that can make my father smile instantly, one would be the news that a corrupt official has been sent to prison, and the other would be me pestering him to hold me.
My father dotes on me, my mother is always by my side, and my brother, who lives far away in the frontier, always asks about me when he writes home. The servants always say with a smile, "Young lady, you are the treasure of the Wang family, you are the pearl of the Wang family!"
When I was ten years old, I heard the maids talking about the grand Mid-Autumn Festival banquet that would be held in the palace this year. I immediately ran to my father's study and shook his arm, "Dad, Dad, will you take Jiaojiao to the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet? Take me with you!"
I'd long heard from the servants how magnificent and prosperous the palace was. They said the eaves were made of gold, the flowers and plants changed color every day, and the lake was clearer than my eyes!
Daddy held me on his lap and said, "Okay, Jiaojiao wants to go, then I'll take Jiaojiao with me!"
I happily pulled my father's short beard with my hands. My father cried out in pain, and I giggled.
On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet, my father took me into the main hall and we watched a group of people playing music, dancing, eating and drinking... But I didn't see any of the golden eaves, the flowers and plants that changed color, or the lake water that was as clear as a mirror!
Before my father entered the palace, he told me not to run around. If I told him that I wanted to go out, he would definitely not agree.
While he was talking to another serious and rigid uncle, I slipped out from under the table, blended into the crowd and slipped out of the stuffy hall.
It was a bit dark at night, but fortunately the Mid-Autumn moon was round and bright.
I dusted off my hands, thinking that I would slip back after a while.
I couldn't tell whether the eaves were made of gold, nor could I tell whether the lake was clear. The only things I could observe closely were the flowers and plants beside the gravel road.
I jumped from the gravel road into the grass, and the furry grass tickled me.
I immediately saw the shadow of a delicate flower, and quickly held the flower stem gently with my hand, almost burying my face in the flower, just to see if it would change color, when it would change color, and what color it would turn into?
I vaguely heard a slight rustling sound from another place. I glanced casually and vaguely saw something like a thin hemp rope sliding in the night.
"ah!"
I know it's a snake! It appeared in my yard once too! One of our servants got bitten and his leg was swollen like a bucket!
I ran back in a panic and accidentally fell on the gravel road.
The rustling sound of the thin snake cutting through the grass was getting closer and closer. My knees hurt so much that I was crying, but I couldn't get up!
Suddenly, a silver light flashed in front of me, and with a "dang" sound, I saw a sharp sword chopping straight down in front of me. Then, what came into my sight was a thin snake cut into two pieces.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhh…”
I was so scared that I crawled back, and I only heard a joking voice from above: "Hey, the snake is dead, why are you still yelling!"
I looked up at him blankly with tears in my eyes, only to see a kid who was only half a head taller than me looking down at me with a smile on his face.
This condescending posture——
Before I could get up, he looked a little panicked and reached out his other hand to help me up: "Hey! Don't cry!"
I was amused by him, so I put my hand in his warm little hand and climbed up.
He was indeed not much taller than me, and his long sword was almost as tall as him.
I turned my head cautiously to glance at the cut-off thin snake, and saw the long sword coming towards me again. With a cut, a hook, and a lift, the thin snake was cut into two pieces again. One piece was lifted into the air by him with the long sword, and then he chopped it off in mid-air with a horizontal slash.
I was stunned by what I saw. He raised his hand and touched his chin: "Now I've avenged you. Don't cry anymore!"
"Hmm!" I was about to thank him, but suddenly I heard a woman's voice coming from the woods: "Where have you been again?! The princes have to go and demonstrate swordsmanship for His Majesty later! We can't all wait for him alone!"
"Hey! Mother is looking for me, remember to go back!" Without waiting for my answer, he quickly turned around and ran into the woods, disappearing in a flash.
I stood there in a daze, the image of him slashing the thin snake with his sword playing over and over in my mind. I had been staying at home since I was a child, and I had never seen a person like him.
I really want to see him dance with the sword again.
But all I saw was the snake that was about to bite me and the grass leaves swaying in the evening breeze.
I didn't want to look at the flowers anymore. I suddenly regretted not asking him his name, how old he was, and who his parents were.
I walked back dejectedly and bumped into someone again. Just as I was about to grin, my father picked me up and said, "I told you to stop running around, but you're still running around! Are you deliberately going against me?"
My smile fell instantly, and I remained silent. My father carried me to the main hall and asked worriedly, "What's wrong? Did my Jiaojiao get wronged? What happened?"
