The next day at noon, Wang Han arrived at the Japanese headquarters under the tight escort of the Doiyu Division, which mobilized almost the entire division's strength, as if protecting a Japanese soldier.
With Doi-Yuan's personal confirmation and description, as well as the physical evidence of the huge bayonet and the 60-meter-long Type 38 rifle that had been sent earlier, the Japanese commander-in-chief finally truly believed that Wang Han had the magical ability to enlarge things. His attitude immediately changed from initial concern to utmost importance. He not only temporarily halted the war, which he had the upper hand in, to show sincerity and goodwill to Wang Han, but also ordered all officers to strictly restrain all their soldiers and not to do anything that would disturb the people.
The Japanese commander-in-chief knew that if Wang Han's abilities were exactly as his subordinates described and guessed, then Wang Han's abilities would be far more important to Japan than the victory of a major battle. If Wang Han was truly willing to serve Japan wholeheartedly, Japan would inevitably dominate the world. Compared to this, giving up the advantage of a war to gain Wang Han's gratitude and loyalty was nothing. Therefore, the Japanese attached great importance to Wang Han, even more so than to a war between nations.
Before Wang Han even arrived at the Japanese headquarters, the Japanese commander-in-chief, accompanied by a large number of Japanese officers, came out of the headquarters to greet him in a grand welcome, much like the ancient Chinese. Upon entering the headquarters, a lavish welcome banquet had already been prepared, and there were even videographers recording the event.
During the banquet, the Japanese soldiers only started eating after Wang Han, their distinguished guest, had taken the first bite.
Halfway through the banquet, the Japanese commander-in-chief, seeing that the atmosphere was just right, finally spoke up and asked Wang Han, "Mr. Wang Han, I have long heard that you have a skill that allows you to conjure objects out of thin air. I am very curious about this. I wonder if you could demonstrate it for me?"
The other Japanese soldiers also stopped at this point. Now it was finally time for the final verification, witnessed by everyone present and the videographer. They had shown the utmost sincerity for Wang Han. To avoid any potential misunderstandings or unpleasantness, they treated Wang Han almost entirely according to Chinese culture, even choosing to conduct the final verification when everyone was well-fed and the atmosphere was at its best. If Wang Han didn't possess the abilities they expected, they would immediately turn on him, and his fate would be predictable.
"No problem." Wang Han nodded without hesitation. He was already prepared for the Japanese to test his abilities.
Unhurriedly, Wang Han picked up the chopsticks he had just used for eating from the table and, in front of the numerous Japanese officers and the commander-in-chief, demonstrated that they were just ordinary chopsticks. Then, under the gaze of all the Japanese soldiers, he stuck the chopsticks into the ground. As soon as Wang Han's hand left the chopsticks, the next second, the chopsticks had transformed into a pillar supporting the roof.
"Oh, chopsticks turned into pillars!" The Japanese officers stared in astonishment at the scene before them, crowding forward to examine the pillars that had seemingly grown larger and were now supporting the roof. They touched the pillars repeatedly to confirm their authenticity, comparing the patterns on their own chopsticks to the pillars. The videographer was also recording the scene meticulously.
"Is my skill alright?" Wang Han asked the Japanese commander-in-chief.
The Japanese commander-in-chief, recovering from his shock, quickly boasted, "Mr. Wang Han's skills are truly miraculous. Seeing them today has really broadened my horizons."
"With such abilities, Mr. Wang Han should serve my Japanese Empire. His Majesty the Emperor will certainly not treat Mr. Wang Han unfairly," said the Japanese Commander-in-Chief.
"Alas, you must know my predicament. Our two countries are at war after all. Although I am willing, I am in a difficult position!" Wang Han sighed.
"Commander Doi-man has already told me about this. I agree to his proposal: release all prisoners and announce that Mr. Wang Han is willing to exchange his own freedom as a hostage for the freedom of all prisoners, and go to live in Japan. This way, Mr. Wang Han will not be in a difficult position," the Japanese commander-in-chief quickly said. In his view, Wang Han was like those ancient figures in Chinese history, simply not wanting to bear the infamy. Such a condition was enough to make Wang Han a hero.
"That puts my mind at ease," Wang Han said with a satisfied smile. His plan was progressing step by step towards success.
"Welcome our esteemed guest, Mr. Wang Han, to join us, to join the Japanese Empire!" Upon hearing this, the Japanese Commander-in-Chief announced excitedly. If Wang Han went to Japan, Japan's goal of world domination would take a giant leap forward. (Don't think the Japanese are stupid for so easily trusting Wang Han. They believe that once Wang Han goes to Japan, if he's willing to help them, that would be the best outcome. If not, they have enough time in Japan to find a way to make him submit. Of course, they are unaware of Wang Han's plans.)
The banquet then continued, ending amidst the Japanese soldiers' wildly expectant laughter and Wang Han's equally wild laughter. Only, their laughter was different.
The next day, under Wang Han's witness and supervision, the Japanese gathered all the prisoners together, announced that Wang Han was willing to go to Japan as a hostage in exchange for the freedom of all the prisoners, and then released all the prisoners.
On this very day, Wang Han's name resounded throughout the world. People inquired and wondered who Wang Han was and what abilities he possessed that made the Japanese willing to exchange all the large number of prisoners they had captured during the war for him to volunteer as a hostage to the Japanese.
