"So later, my sister and I discussed it and decided to run away from home to go to university together. Since we had made up our minds, we simply left a letter, stole the household registration book, got passports, and went abroad to study with our ID cards and the money we had saved from working."
"It was very difficult when we first came to the United States because we didn't have any guaranteed admission spots, we didn't have much money, Chinese people here are all low-paying workers, and not many people are willing to hire us. We couldn't find a university to take us in until later, with the help of a fellow overseas Chinese, we found a third-rate university that was willing to take us in."
"The idea to steal the household registration book was your sister's, wasn't it?" Wang Han said to the young man. "Your sister probably manages the household registration as well."
"Yes." Upon hearing this, the young man smiled awkwardly.
"Sigh!" Wang Han sighed. He suspected that even running away from home was something his sister had discussed with him, and hiding money was probably taught to him by his sister as well. This guy was probably a bookworm and had suffered a lot. So he asked, "How old are you? How long have you been in America? Who else lives in your family besides your parents?"
Upon hearing this, the young man quickly replied, "I'm twenty years old, born in the 80s. I've been in the United States for half a year now. Besides me, I have two older brothers and a younger brother."
"Born in the 1980s?" Wang Han stared blankly at the young man and asked, "What year is it now?"
"It's 2002 now, what's wrong?" the young man asked curiously, not understanding why Wang Han would ask such a question.
"Damn, I'm a 90s kid, he's really younger than me..." Upon hearing the young man's reply, Wang Han felt like a million alpacas were stampeding through his mind.
The young man looked at Wang Han and asked, "And you? You still don't know your own name?"
"Hahaha... Just call me Wang Han." Hearing this, Wang Han could only laugh awkwardly and change the subject. "What happened to your sister?"
The young man's eyes welled up with tears again, and he said sadly, "It's all my fault for being so useless. I was bullied. My sister was beaten up for standing up for me, and she's had a high fever ever since. We don't have money to go to the hospital, so we can only buy some medicine and let her stay at home."
Wang Han patted the young man on the shoulder and said, "I know some medicine. Take me to see your sister; maybe I can cure her."
