"Prepare the crossbows!" Upon hearing this, the general immediately shouted loudly to his soldiers.
"Prepare the crossbows!" the soldiers on duty shouted one after another.
The soldiers, armed with repeating crossbows, advanced to the front of the formation. They raised their sophisticated crossbows, capable of firing ten arrows in succession over 300 meters, aiming them at the battlefield, awaiting the final command. (Wang Han modified and imitated the Zhuge Repeating Crossbow, making it much larger and equipped with ordinary arrows.)
"Shoot!" With the general's loud command, cold arrows blotted out the sky and rained down on the already chaotic battlefield.
"Pfft pfft pfft pfft pfft pfft..." The sound of sharp arrows piercing flesh rang out continuously on the battlefield. Whether they were soldiers of the Peacock Dynasty, slave soldiers captured by Liu Bang, or soldiers from the Impure Earth, they were all within the range of the rain of arrows at this moment.
While the Mauryan soldiers had shields to barely protect themselves, the slave soldiers could only watch helplessly as arrows pierced their bodies and took their lives.
"Stop fighting, everyone! They want to kill us all!" At this moment, many slaves realized that Liu Bang and the Qin army would not set them free, nor would they let them live.
"Let's all fight back!" Led by some slaves, the slaves began to turn around and charge towards the corrupted army behind them.
At Liu Bang's signal, a general drew his sword, pointed it at the charging slave army, and shouted, "Kill!"
"Kill!" Under the general's command, the impure earth soldiers formed a battle formation. The soldiers at the front held up thick shields, while the soldiers behind them held their long spears flat, extending them beyond their shields. The sharp, gleaming spearheads pointed at the charging slaves, and they walked step by step toward the charging slaves.
"Pfft pfft pfft pfft pfft..." As the two sides clashed, these slaves were no match for the long-trained, tireless, and immortal soldiers of the Impure Earth Army. They couldn't break through the Impure Earth Army's formation at all. The Impure Earth Army soldiers kept thrusting out and retracting their long spears from their shields, taking their lives, while arrows rained down on them relentlessly.
"Push!" With the command of the general, the army of the reanimated soldiers began to advance, and the slaughter began. The reanimated soldiers marched through the piles of corpses in formation, their long spears constantly reaping the lives of these slaves. The soldiers behind them finished off the slaves who could still move, while the soldiers in the back ranks, under the general's command, kept firing crossbow bolts.
Blood stained the shields, soaked the earth, and flowed into streams. The soldiers of the Mauryan Empire and their General Agam trembled as they watched the slaves being slaughtered. Could they truly defeat these immortal monsters?
"General Gan, perhaps we should retreat? We have no chance of winning," a general said, trembling with fear. The surrounding soldiers looked at General Gan expectantly.
“If we retreat, the next group of people they kill will be our relatives, friends, and parents.” General Agam pointed to the ranks of the Filthy Earth soldiers and said, “We have no choice. We cannot retreat from this battle. While they are fighting amongst themselves, let the elephant cavalry regroup and break through their ranks at all costs to disrupt their formation.”
"Disrupt their formation. The elephants charge at all costs to break their formation."
General Agnes's orders were quickly issued, but the soldiers were already terrified. This was a war they could never win; they knew they couldn't possibly survive the charge. They couldn't even kill those undead monsters. Finally, some soldiers couldn't bear the pressure and dropped their weapons to run away. As the first soldier fled, more and more followed, eventually turning into a massive rout.
General Agam watched the fleeing soldiers, neither moving nor stopping them. He knew it was too late. He even waved to stop the general beside him.
"General Gan." The general beside General Gan looked at Gan with a puzzled expression.
“You should retreat too. Take the soldiers who want to leave and gather the deserters to prepare for defense in the city behind,” Agam said.
"And what about you, General?"
“Someone has to stay behind to cover the retreat,” Forrest Gump said. “Let me and the soldiers who are willing to stay buy you some time.”
"Almost all your comrades have fled, why didn't you?" Liu Bang asked, looking at his army of less than five thousand men in the distance, after the corrupted soldiers had wiped out all the slave troops. The translator beside him immediately translated Liu Bang's words loudly.
"Because I must stay and stop the demons from entering our homeland!" General Agan roared, gripping his scimitar tightly, and led the charge.
"Demon!" Liu Bang smiled and waved to a general beside him.
"Archers! Fire!" Upon receiving Liu Bang's signal, the general immediately shouted the order.
............
"Clean up the battlefield and proceed to the next city." Looking at the spot where arrows stood upright like planted rice seedlings, Liu Bang instructed one of his generals.
——————————————————
Time passed quickly, and twenty days went by in the blink of an eye. The resurrected army seemed tireless and endless, relentlessly conquering cities and villages, capturing slaves, and wiping out the male population of the Mauryan Empire, no matter how much the people resisted. By the twentieth day after entering the Mauryan Empire, they had already reached the capital and reduced the male population by almost half. However, Liu Bang, with only 50,000 troops, had to lose territory along the way.
