Chapter 253 Lü Zhi's Mistake

That afternoon, the King of Goryeo issued an order to conscript all those in the unconquered areas of Goguryeo who were capable of taking up arms to rebel against the Qin Dynasty, slay the immortal monster, and save their people.

Meanwhile, Lü Zhi also learned of the old man's existence and the information he had provided from the bribed ministers. She finally understood why Wang Han hadn't acted personally; he was restrained by some unknown reason and dared not act rashly. Furthermore, the fact that Wang Han had gone to that special place to instruct them at the end further confirmed her suspicions, and she began to devise new plans.

Seven days later, the King of Goryeo finally launched his counterattack. He mobilized almost the entire population of the unconquered territories for a desperate counterattack.

On the front lines, hundreds of thousands of Goryeo soldiers and civilians, armed with weapons or farm tools, stood in a stalemate against the less than 20,000 Qin troops, led by the Goryeo king. Although the opposing Qin army numbered only 20,000, the Goryeo king was uncertain of their strength. His people were untrained, had never been on a battlefield, and had never even seen blood. He feared their morale might collapse midway through the battle.

Lu Zhi, who had also stepped onto the front lines of the battlefield, looked at the dense mass of enemies opposite her and felt equally worried. She knew that the enemy had found a way to deal with the undead soldiers, but she had no choice but to fight this decisive battle. If she didn't, there would probably be large-scale resistance in the areas she had already occupied, and the slave army would also rebel, since no one wanted to be a slave.

"For our homeland, for our country, for our loved ones, for our children and grandchildren, we will surely win this battle!" The King of Goryeo shouted from the front of the Goryeo army and people.

"Victory! Victory! Victory! Victory!" Under the leadership of the King of Goryeo, the morale of the fearful people and soldiers began to rise.

"Destroy these Qin soldiers, destroy the spells in their heads, liberate our enslaved compatriots, liberate our future, liberate our country!" The King of Goryeo continued to shout loudly, "Kill, kill, kill!"

"Kill! Kill! Kill!" Inspired by the King of Goryeo's words, the morale of the people soared. They shouted along with him.

"Kill..." Seeing that the morale had been raised enough, the King of Goryeo raised his sword and pointed it at the Qin army in front of him, and took the lead in charging forward.

"Kill..." Seeing the King of Goryeo leading the charge, the civilians and Goryeo soldiers, filled with high morale, also shouted and charged desperately towards the other side.

"Shield bearers forward, spearmen behind, archers and crossbowmen, prepare!" Empress Lü shouted, watching the Goryeo soldiers and civilians begin their charge. The Qin army, now shrouded in filth, quickly formed a defensive line. Large shields were erected in front, long spears and halberds extending from the gaps between them, their sharp blades gleaming coldly in the sunlight. Behind them, archers drew their bows to their fullest extent, arrows poised at a 45-degree angle, ready to be launched. Further back, repeating crossbows were already drawn and ready to fire, awaiting their orders.

"Archers, fire..." Lü Zhi commanded, looking at the enemy who was already nearly two hundred meters away.

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh..." With Lü Zhi's command, arrows flew out from the rear formation of the Qin army like locusts, heading towards the densely packed Goguryeo soldiers and civilians who were rushing towards them like ants.

"Pfft pfft pfft..." Arrows kept falling, piercing the bodies of Goguryeo people one after another, and bringing them down one after another.

Seeing their compatriots falling one after another, the Goguryeo soldiers and civilians, though frightened, still roared desperately, trampling over the piled-up corpses of their comrades, and tried their best to charge towards the Qin army's formation.

"Bang..." Finally, the Goguryeo soldiers and civilians at the forefront braved the rain of arrows from the sky and rushed to the front of the Qin army's formation. Although the shields were covered with sharp spears and halberds that protruded like hedgehogs, they still tried their best to deflect the arrows with the simple shields or pot lids in their hands and desperately tried to break through the shields erected by the Qin army.

Faced with the onslaught of Goguryeo soldiers and civilians, the shield bearers and the soldiers behind them worked together to hold back the large shields. Despite being pushed back continuously, they desperately held on to the shields. Once they stabilized their retreat, the soldiers holding long spears and lances repeatedly thrust out and retracted their weapons, reaping the lives of the enemies in front of the shields.

Blood stained the shields, and corpses piled up in front of them. Yet, seeing their comrades constantly dying, the Goguryeo soldiers and civilians relentlessly charged the Qin army's formation, forcing them to retreat step by step, clearing away the piling up corpses and creating space for battle.

On both flanks of the Qin army, their formations were constantly shrinking. Empress Lü had made a mistake, and most of the Qin generals had made a mistake. The Goguryeo soldiers and civilians, who should have lost morale in the carnage and had little fighting power, did not collapse as quickly as they had expected. They continued to charge at their formations relentlessly, causing their original defensive and offensive formation (prepared to pursue the enemy when they collapsed) to become incomplete. Now, it was too late to shrink into a fully defensive formation.

"Ah..." Soon, a Goguryeo soldier roared as he leaped over the large shield. Although the Qin soldiers behind him immediately stabbed him to death with long spears, many more Goguryeo soldiers and civilians leaped over the shields. The defensive formation finally showed a weakness. The flanks of the Qin army's formation were also torn open during the assault, and large numbers of enemies rushed into the Qin army's ranks, wielding their weapons and desperately attacking the Qin soldiers in front of them.

Finally, the first Qin soldier afflicted with the corrupted earth was defeated, his head smashed open, revealing the talisman within. A Goguryeo soldier quickly lunged at the talisman on the ground, and despite attacks from other Qin soldiers, he desperately managed to pry the talisman from the fragments and tear it apart. As the talisman was shattered, the corrupted earth soldier's regeneration ceased.
