Chapter 326 Catching a Local God

Listening to Qiusheng and Wencai playing around in the courtyard, Wang Han smiled and said to Uncle Jiu, "Those two are really energetic!"

"Sigh!" Uncle Nine sighed, walked to the door, hung the things he was carrying on the wall, and said, "That's why I can't rest easy and always cause me trouble."

"Master!" Just then, Wen Cai, who had been chased by Qiu Sheng to the door, suddenly shouted loudly.

When Qiu Sheng heard Wen Cai call him "Master," he quickly hid the broom behind his back. However, he didn't see Uncle Jiu and realized he had been tricked by Wen Cai. He raised the broom and struck Wen Cai hard.

"Hmm." Hearing Wencai call him, Uncle Jiu, who was hanging things behind the door, just happened to peek out.

"Snap..." The broom broke in response.

Uncle Nine, clutching the large bump on his head, roared, "Well, well, you two brats, you even dare to hit your master!"

"Master, it was Wencai who hit him." Upon seeing this, Qiusheng knew he had caused a huge disaster. He hurriedly shoved the broomstick in Wencai's hand and ran out of the mortuary.

Seeing this, Wencai didn't dare to stay any longer and ran away as fast as he could.

“Uncle Jiu, it seems they’re not just troublemakers,” Wang Han said with a grin. “They’re quite good at creating trouble, but that’s what makes life more fun.”

"Wang Han, stop teasing me." Uncle Nine rubbed his head and came back. "These two lads have given me a lot of trouble. If this continues, I'm starting to doubt whether I'll even be able to die of old age."

"Hey, are you going to abandon me?" Wen Cai hurriedly chased after Qiu Sheng, who was lighting incense next to his bicycle, and said.

Qiu Sheng said, "Oh dear, you're the one who caused this trouble. Who told you to flick ink at me?"

"Don't go any further, it's easy to see ghosts this late," Wencai advised Qiusheng.

"In this situation, I'd rather see a ghost than see my master," Qiu Sheng said, sticking the incense stick in his hand into the front of his bicycle before riding away. He hit his master and then ran away; did he think he was stupid?

Watching Qiu Sheng leave, Wen Cai could only return with a tearful face.

"Uncle Jiu, I'm going back to sleep now," Wang Han said to Uncle Jiu and went back to his room. Seeing Wang Han return to his room, Wen Cai's face grew even more bitter; the only person who could speak up for him had avoided him.

Along the wooded path leading from the mortuary to the town, four men dressed in black short jackets were carrying a red bridal sedan chair. Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the people carrying the sedan chair were not living people, but burnt paper figures.

Just then, Wencai rode his bicycle with incense sticks stuck in it, humming a little tune, slowly coming from the direction of the mortuary.

Suddenly, the paper figures carrying the bridal sedan chair stopped and put it down. A female ghost dressed in a red wedding dress lifted the curtain of the sedan chair and flew out. She glanced at Qiu Sheng, who had come from the mortuary, and flew to the back seat of Qiu Sheng's bicycle. She waved to the four paper figures who had brought her there.

The female ghost, the four paper figures, and the bridal sedan chair vanished instantly. It turned out she was a ghost bride.

Qiu Sheng was unaware that a ghost had appeared behind him. He continued humming a tune and rode his bicycle toward the town.

"This Qiu Sheng hasn't learned much of Uncle Jiu's skills." Looking at the oblivious Qiu Sheng, Wang Han, who had quietly followed him out of the mortuary, shook his head and continued to follow Qiu Sheng.

"Bang..." Just as Qiu Sheng was passing by a tree branch, he ducked over it, but the female ghost was knocked down by the branch.

Watching Qiu Sheng walk away, the female ghost rubbed her head and sat down on the ground, unwilling to accept her fate.

"Hahahaha..." A laugh rang out in the grove, mocking the female ghost.

The female ghost looked in the direction from which the laughter came, and saw a small earth god temple in the woods. Her expression changed, and she immediately disappeared into the woods.

"Oh, you're laughing quite happily." Wang Han suddenly appeared next to the earth god temple. Before the spirit inside could escape, the golden sealing chain in his hand had already wrapped around the earth god statue. He pulled out a short old man.

Looking at the short old man who had been pulled out by the Vajra Seal, Wang Han said with a smile, "I originally wanted to catch that female ghost, but I was lucky and caught a local deity instead. What an unexpected bonus."

"Immortal, spare me! Immortal, spare me!" The short earth god immediately begged for mercy after being captured by Wang Han. He regretted laughing at the female ghost. Now he was captured and sealed by some unknown thing.

"Don't be afraid, I'll ask you questions and you can answer them. Once you've answered my questions, I'll let you go." Wang Han said with a sinister smile, "But if you dare to lie to me, I don't mind experimenting with the tortures of the underworld. It would be quite enjoyable."

"Immortal, please ask," the local earth god said tremblingly. He couldn't afford to offend those who could so easily capture him, especially given the current situation. If he died, no one would care about a local earth god who hadn't even left.

Wang Han asked, "Are there really immortals in this world?"

"..." The land deity paused for a moment, then replied, "Isn't a celestial being just an immortal?"

"Stop pretending and answer my questions honestly." Wang Han tightened the golden chain in his hand, deforming the earth he was binding.

“Yes, yes, yes,” the land deity quickly replied.

"Why didn't I find them, or encounter them?" Wang Han asked again. He had already scanned this world with his radar and hadn't found any immortals or people at the national level. The only ones he had spotted were the Black and White Impermanence when they came out to collect ghosts—two city-level ghosts.

“They’re all in the celestial palace,” the local deity quickly said.

"Where is the Celestial Palace?" Wang Han asked.

"This old man doesn't know either." Upon hearing this, the local deity immediately shook his head.

Seeing that the land didn't seem to be lying, Wang Han changed the subject. "Why haven't I discovered any immortals in the world?"

"The immortals are all in the celestial palace," the Earth God said again.

"Didn't they come out?" Wang Han asked. "Aren't those immortals allowed to come out?"

“This…” Land hesitated.

"Clang clang..." Wang Han tightened the chains in his hands.

"No, no," the local deity quickly replied. "Immortal, the immortals are all in the Immortal Palace, and the palace gates are now closed. They won't come out."

"Why?" Wang Han asked.

"Because the world is in chaos," the Earth God quickly replied. "Today, the Heavenly Way has sent down two calamities in succession. The immortals are following the Heavenly Way and are hiding in their celestial palaces, avoiding the world and not concerning themselves with mortal affairs."

"Heaven sends down calamity, so we should follow the will of Heaven?" Upon hearing this, Wang Han immediately realized that it referred to World War I and World War II, and angrily retorted, "What nonsense about following the will of Heaven! It's clearly just about protecting yourself and not getting involved in worldly affairs."

"Then why don't you leave?" Wang Han asked the land deity.

Upon hearing this, the land deity sighed and said, "Alas! I am worshipped by this region, how can I bear to leave? I only hope that I will be lucky and not be caught in the calamity."

"Tell me the details of this," Wang Han said, pulling Tu Di to sit down beside him. "There are some things I won't stand idly by. Maybe we can cooperate."
