Chapter 33 Breaking Through Sishui Pass

"My lord, there is a letter in the general's mansion that is addressed to Lord Xi Zhicai." Upon arriving at the general's mansion, the soldier discovered the letter left by Wang Han and quickly brought it to Cao Cao.

Upon hearing this, Cao Cao took the letter, but instead of opening it himself, he handed it to Xi Zhicai.

"Thank you, Lord Cao." Xi Zhicai took the letter from Cao Cao, opened it, and had an expression that said, "I knew it," but was also full of headaches.

Seeing Xi Zhicai's conflicted expression, Cao Cao assumed that Wang Han had left behind some important message and quickly asked, "What's wrong? Brother Zhicai, has something happened, or is there some difficulty?"

"This... sigh! I can't understand it. I wonder if Lord Cao can understand this kind of writing?" Xi Zhicai said awkwardly. He could hardly understand the characters Wang Han wrote, and he had to guess most of them, which was why he was having such a headache.

(The Han Dynasty used Small Seal script, which was beautifully written but complex, and very different from modern characters.)

Cao Cao took the letter from Xi Zhicai, glanced at it, and was immediately stunned. He had never seen such writing before. It was square and simple in style, but he could only understand a few characters. He couldn't understand a whole sentence.

"Haha, Brother Zhicai, your lord is truly learned and talented." Cao Cao awkwardly handed the letter to Xi Zhicai and said, "I can't understand this kind of writing either."

"Alas! I can only guess now." Xi Zhicai sighed, inwardly lamenting, "My lord, even though this is all you can write, couldn't you have someone else write it for you? Why does it always have to be like this?"

"Hmm, these three characters are 'Sishui Pass,' these two characters mean 'two,' this one means 'sky,' and this one means 'early.' Our lord's change of plans to directly attack Hulao Pass likely indicates his intention to capture Luoyang as quickly as possible." Xi Zhicai scratched his head, thinking for a long time. Based on the few characters Wang Han had taught him, combined with recent events and plans, he finally guessed the general idea. 'Our lord means to attack Sishui Pass two days from now, on the morning of the next day.'

"Lord Cao." After figuring it out, Xi Zhicai gestured to Cao Cao with his eyes for his attendants to leave.

"You may all leave." Seeing this, Cao Cao knew that Xi Zhicai had an answer, and waved for his men to leave.

Upon Cao Cao's signal, his men quickly withdrew and waited at the door.

After the others left, Xi Zhicai said to Cao Cao, "My lord's intention is that he will break through Sishui Pass in two days, and he wants us to prepare in advance to take over Sishui Pass."

"Then we'll wait for Yuan Shao to arrive with his allied forces to take over Hulao Pass, and then we'll immediately set off with our troops," Cao Cao said happily. "Once Sishui Pass is breached, Luoyang will be within reach."

"Reporting to my lord, the allied forces have arrived at Hulao Pass," a soldier ran in and reported to Cao Cao.

"This..." After Yuan Shao led his allied army into Hulao Pass, he could hardly believe his ears. Hulao Pass had actually been captured by one person. Cao Cao had gotten a great deal this time, obtaining Hulao Pass without losing a single soldier and making a great contribution.

Upon learning of Wang Han's bravery, Cao Cao immediately sought to win him over. However, it is said that Wang Han left shortly after capturing Hulao Pass, before Cao Cao's troops arrived. Some people witnessed Wang Han carrying a pair of large hammers and heading towards Sishui Pass.

Outside Sishui Pass, Wang Han, who was having a barbecue in the nearby forest, was unaware that Xi Zhicai was holding the letter he had left behind, scratching his head and lamenting.

However, even if Wang Han knew, he wouldn't care, because he did it intentionally, like a code. As for his attack on Sishui Pass, even if they didn't guess it, the scouts around would relay the news when he attacked Sishui Pass, and Xi Zhicai and the allied forces would know. Whether Cao Cao seized the initiative or not was unimportant to Wang Han, as long as the allied forces arrived in Luoyang as soon as possible, it didn't matter who arrived first.

————————————

Two days passed quickly. During these two days, thanks to the accounts of the Xiliang soldiers who had escaped from Hulao Pass, a heavy atmosphere had settled over Sishui Pass. The city gates had been tightly closed two days prior. On the city walls, large numbers of Xiliang soldiers stood guard, awaiting Wang Han's arrival.

"boom..."

The next day, just as the sun began to shine on the city walls, a deafening roar echoed throughout Sishui Pass. Huge rocks flew into the city, and before the eyes of countless civilians and soldiers, a section of the city wall was blasted down.

After Wang Han enlarged a golden hammer into a drum-shaped urn to a diameter of over ten meters and smashed a section of the city wall with one blow, he quickly put the enlarged urn into his backpack and, holding another golden hammer in one hand, walked through the broken city wall into Sishui Pass.

As the morning sun rose, Wang Han, wielding a sledgehammer, trudged step by step over the broken city wall and into the city, heading towards the city gate. The five or six hundred Xiliang soldiers who had come to reinforce him, though pointing their weapons at Wang Han, retreated step by step in fear. Although they hadn't seen how Wang Han breached the city wall, they hadn't seen any siege equipment outside the wall either, leading many to believe that Wang Han had simply smashed the wall down with his sledgehammer.

"Those who block my way shall die." Wang Han said slowly, looking at the Xiliang soldiers before him. A powerful killing intent erupted from his body, surging towards the Xiliang soldiers like a crimson tide.

"Oh my god, we're going to die!" Sensing Wang Han's murderous aura and watching the wave of blood rushing towards them, many soldiers' limbs went numb. Some didn't even realize they'd lost their weapons. Wang Han's killing intent was so overwhelming that it had caused them to hallucinate, making them feel as if they were facing an ancient demon god, not a human. Some soldiers even collapsed to the ground, either terrified to death or fainting.
