Chapter 337 Searching for Spirits in the Mountains

Wang Han asked the Four-Eyed Taoist, "Fellow Taoist, are there any animal spirits or monsters in the nearby mountains?"

"You don't actually want to go and see for yourself, do you?" Upon hearing this, Four-Eyed Taoist looked at Wang Han with a wry smile. Wang Han had moved into the mortuary and met Uncle Nine because he wanted to see ghosts and zombies. He also came to visit his home because he wanted to see the Maoshan corpse-driving technique and, incidentally, avoid disaster.

"I want to go and see for myself," Wang Han nodded and said.

“That won’t do. It’s too dangerous for you to go alone.” Upon hearing this, the Four-Eyed Taoist shook his head and said, “Let’s go together sometime, so that someone can take care of you.”

"Then thank you very much, fellow Daoist." Wang Han said with a smile, "I plan to go to the mountains to collect herbs tomorrow. I won't go to the mountains to look for those animal spirits right away. I will make preparations before I go."

"I'm relieved to hear that you say so, fellow Daoist." Upon hearing this, Daoist Four Eyes nodded.

The next morning, just as the rooster crowed, the sound of the monk Ikkyu chanting sutras came from next door, along with the sound of striking a wooden fish and the clanging of a begging bowl.

"Sure enough, living next to a monk, it's impossible not to absorb some Buddhist influences." Wang Han opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling, muttering to himself. He couldn't help but admire the Four-Eyed Taoist, who had managed to be neighbors with the monk Ikkyu for so long despite not wanting to.

"Forget it, I'd better go to the mountains and see if I can find any spirits there." Wang Han thought for a moment, then got up and started washing up. As for the promised discussion of Buddhism with the monk Ikkyu, Wang Han wasn't worried. He felt that Ikkyu's chanting was tedious because he was unwilling, making it difficult to concentrate. If he was willing, it wouldn't be like that, because he was willing to do it, so at most he would just find it boring.

"Jiale, tell your master I'm going up the mountain to see what medicinal herbs are available. I'll be back around 10 p.m., so he doesn't need to worry about me." After packing his things, Wang Han said this to Jiale, who was also up and making breakfast.

“Master, it’s not dawn yet. Why don’t you wait until I’ve made breakfast, eat breakfast, and then go up the mountain to find medicine…” Jiale quickly said.

"No need, it's early. I'd like to collect some morning dew," Wang Han said with a smile, declining Jia Le's offer and leaving the cabin. The Four-Eyed Taoist and the One-Rise Monk were natural enemies, and he didn't want to be caught in the crossfire so early in the morning. He'd better go out and avoid the situation, and do his own thing while he was at it.

————————————

As Wang Han predicted, things turned out exactly as he had expected after he left.

"Ugh, so annoying..." Not long after Wang Han left, the Four-Eyed Taoist was disturbed from his sleep by the old monk's chanting and roared angrily. He couldn't fall back asleep after that.

"I can't take it anymore!" The Four-Eyed Taoist sat up in anger, with two coconut shells covering his ears to block out the sound.

"The coconut shell is useless, the small bowl is useless, the cotton is useless, and even the lamp wick can't stop you." The Four-Eyed Taoist angrily took off the coconut shell and threw it aside. Underneath the coconut shell were two small bowls. After taking off the small bowls, there were two wads of cotton. After taking off the cotton, he even took out two pieces of lamp wick from his ear.

Soon, before dawn, a farcical magical spectacle, in which both sides were injured, unfolded in the two houses after the Four-Eyed Taoist made the first move.

——————————————

In the woods behind the two houses.

After leaving the house, Wang Han quickly went to the mountains. After scanning with radar, he flew directly into the depths of the forest. Although the Four-Eyed Taoist said that going together would provide more support, given Wang Han's strength and purpose, having the Four-Eyed Taoist along would only be a hindrance.

Soon, Wang Han flew dozens of kilometers and landed outside a cave.

"I wonder what kind of animal spirit it could be?" Looking at the dark cave in front of him, Wang Han landed from the air and stepped inside.

The darkness in the cave did not obscure Wang Han's vision, and he soon reached a more secluded part of the cave.

The cave was filled with dry grass, and the remains of animals and humans were carelessly discarded along the edges of the cave walls. A large black bear, with a tuft of white fur on its chest and three claw marks on its face, was fast asleep on the dry grass. Although it was a black bear, its size was similar to that of a brown bear, and Wang Han estimated that it weighed around 500 to 600 kilograms.

"I wonder what level of spirit this black bear is." Looking at the black bear in front of him, which was about the same size as an adult Kodiak brown bear, Wang Han stroked his chin and observed it carefully. This black bear wasn't the strongest spirit in the mountains, but it was certainly one of the ones with the most energy in the nearby hills.

"Get up." Wang Han observed the black bear sleeping on the hay for a while, walked over, shouted, and kicked it up, sending it flying to the edge of the cave wall.

"Awooo..." The black bear roared in pain after being kicked by Wang Han.

"Stop yelling." Wang Han picked at his ear and made a sound to attract the black bear's attention.

"Roar..." Upon hearing Wang Han's voice, the black bear turned its head and saw Wang Han not far away. It was this ignorant human who had disturbed its dream of doing things with a certain female bear.

"Roar..." The black bear roared again and charged at Wang Han on all fours, determined to tear this short, skinny man who had ruined its plans to pieces, giving him no chance whatsoever.

Wang Han picked at his ear again, then quickly kicked the black bear in the face, stopping its momentum.

"Ooh..." The black bear whimpered in pain as Wang Han kicked it in the face, as if it had been slammed into a mountainside, and tears even welled up in its eyes.
