"Song Wan, Zhu Gui, Du Qian!" Seeing several soldiers behind him abandoning the others and charging straight at them, Lin Chong knew he couldn't outrun these mounted men, so he shouted to Song Wan, Zhu Gui, and Du Qian, "We can't outrun these mounted men."
"Then let's fight them!" Zhu Gui, the "Dry Land Crocodile," said upon hearing this, his gaze turning fierce. As a bandit, how could he not possess banditry?
"Do you think you can defeat General Shenwei?" Upon hearing this, Lin Chong immediately poured cold water on his enthusiasm.
“Since we’re all going to die anyway, we might as well die with some dignity,” said Song Wan, the Cloud-Piercing Vajra.
“We might not die. I have a way to survive.” Upon hearing this, Lin Chong quickly said, stopping Song Wan from his suicidal thoughts.
"What method?" Upon hearing this, Song Wan, Zhu Gui, Du Qian, and Wang Lun all quickly asked. Who wants to die if they can live? As long as there is hope, they don't want to die.
"As you all know, I used to be the instructor of the 800,000 Imperial Guards," Lin Chong quickly said, his gaze fixed on Wang Lun.
"Lin Chong, what are you trying to do? Betray me! Break my promise?" Seeing Lin Chong's gaze, all four men understood the situation, and Wang Lun immediately cursed angrily. Lin Chong was offering his head as atonement and confession, hoping that, given Lin Chong's former status as the instructor of the 800,000 Imperial Guards, he might be spared and even be allowed to serve under the Divine Might General.
"One is a dead end, the other might be a path to survival, or even a bright future. You choose," Lin Chong said, completely ignoring Wang Lun. Time was of the essence, and he had no time to worry about Wang Lun.
"Wang Lun, you scheming villain, prepare to die!" Song Wan shouted, suddenly launching an attack, his swift blade slashing towards Wang Lun's neck.
"Song Wan, you?!" Upon seeing this, Wang Lun quickly dodged to the side, about to unleash a torrent of curses. Fortunately, he reacted in time, only losing an arm; had he been a fraction slower, he might have lost his head.
"Wang Lun, you are nothing but a narrow-minded, ignorant poor scholar who has committed so many evil deeds. You should have died long ago." Before Wang Lun could utter his angry curses, Du Qian, who had been silent all along, suddenly attacked and beheaded Wang Lun with a single stroke.
Lin Chong caught Wang Lun's head, turned around and knelt on the ground, raising Wang Lun's head high and shouting, "Wang Lun is dead! Everyone kneel down and surrender, awaiting the General's judgment. This sinful general, Lin Chong, the Imperial Guard Instructor, presents Wang Lun's head to the Divine Might General and will obey the General's judgment."
"We surrender! Lay down your weapons and kneel down to surrender!" Song Wan and his two companions quickly shouted to the fleeing henchmen around them, and knelt down with Lin Chong. Their bond wasn't as deep as one might imagine; they weren't willing to risk their lives knowing that resistance would mean certain death.
"Lin Chong!" Upon hearing this, Yang Zhi and the others arrived in front of Lin Chong and his men. Seeing that Wang Lun, whom Wang Han had specifically ordered to kill, was already dead, they stopped. They had heard of Lin Chong before.
"I am Lin Chong, a former instructor of the Imperial Guards. Generals, please inform the General that I am presenting the head of the bandit leader Wang Lun." Upon hearing this, Lin Chong quickly said, referring to himself as "I am Lin Chong" and "a former instructor of the Imperial Guards," placing his status very lowly.
"Wait, everyone kneel together." Upon hearing this, Yang Zhi said, and everyone knelt down together. Then Lu Han went to report to Wang Han, who was slowly coming over from behind.
"Yes, all of you kneel together." Upon hearing Yang Zhi's words, Song Wan and his men quickly called out to the bandits kneeling around them to kneel together.
"General, all the bandits have knelt down and surrendered, awaiting your judgment. One of them claims to be a criminal general, and is none other than Lin Chong, the former instructor of the Imperial Guards." Lu Han said as he approached Wang Han.
"Understood," Wang Han nodded and continued driving slowly on his little white chariot.
"This guilty general Lin Chong greets the Divine Might General and presents the head of the bandit leader Wang Lun, begging the Divine Might General to punish me." Upon seeing Wang Han return, Lin Chong immediately shouted loudly, holding Wang Lun's head high in his hand.
"You, you, you..." Upon hearing this, Wang Han merely glanced at Lin Chong, pointed out seven or eight heinous bandits, and said, "Leave these few here, the rest can get lost."
"Yes." Upon hearing this, Yang Zhi and the others immediately went into the kneeling bandits and forcibly dragged out the few people that Wang Han had named.
"Thank you, General! Thank you, General! Thank you, General!" The bandits who hadn't been spared immediately kowtowed repeatedly on the ground and then scrambled away. Only the four leaders, Lin Chong and Song Wan, remained kneeling on the ground. As leaders, they dared not run away; if they misunderstood, they feared losing their heads.
"You can all get out of here too," Wang Han said without even glancing at Lin Chong and the other three.
"Thank you, General, for sparing our lives." Upon hearing this, Song Wan and the other two immediately kowtowed and ran away quickly with the other bandits. They dared not utter a single complaint, as Wang Han didn't even glance at them.
"Great General Shenwei, I, Lin Chong, dare not leave! As an instructor of the Imperial Guards, I have become an outlaw. I dare not forget my sins!" Lin Chong gritted his teeth and shouted as he watched Song Wan and the other two flee. He still wanted revenge, and he was unwilling to become an outlaw. He only hoped that Wang Han would ask about his crimes so that he could speak out his innocence.
"That's your problem. Not killing you is already a favor." Upon hearing this, Wang Han said, and with a wave of his hand, a strong wind appeared out of nowhere, blowing Lin Chong away. He tumbled and landed a hundred meters away, already unconscious.
Seeing this, Yang Zhi and the others remained silent. In fact, they had heard some things about Lin Chong. However, they were of low status and their future depended on Wang Han, so they dared not interrupt.
"Li Shishi, Zhao Fujin, today I'll give you your first lesson. Get used to it so you'll have courage on the battlefield later," Wang Han said to Li Shishi and Zhao Fujin. "Those who remain are all guilty of heinous crimes and deserve to die. You two will be the ones to execute them."
