In the world of The Hobbit, the Ironfoot Army arrived at Lonely Mountain ahead of time because the mercenary group had brought Thorin and others to Lonely Mountain and Balin to plead for help.
The Elven army arrived at Lonely Mountain ahead of schedule after receiving news that it had returned to Thorin's hands. “Yes,” Baggins nodded affirmatively, “but they need all the treasure in Lonely Mountain as a commission before they will help us fight this war, and we don’t need to send a single soldier.”
"Could it be a conspiracy?" Gandalf asked. He didn't have a good impression of the Sky-Bombing Mercenary Group. Although the Sky-Bombing Mercenary Group hadn't done anything too heinous, they were a powerful mercenary group that was very unfriendly and even vicious towards outsiders.
