Chapter 718 One-Sided War Mission

Ten minutes after the orb of light disappeared, a large contingent of orcs had emerged from the cave, assembled, and charged towards the dwarf and elven armies arrayed before Lonely Mountain. In just a few more minutes, the two armies would clash.

“We haven’t seen them yet, it seems they’re not coming. Those mercenaries are powerful, but they’re not trustworthy,” Gandalf said, turning to Thorin and the other dwarves. He still didn’t trust the Skybreaker mercenary group. He was even more reluctant to let them participate in this war, even though they were at a significant disadvantage.

No one responded to Gandalf's words; everyone stared blankly at the sky ahead. The charging orc army also stopped.

"What is this?" Following everyone's gaze, Gandalf murmured in disbelief, stunned. This was a miracle; only a god could do such a thing.

In the middle of the battle between the two armies, the sky was torn apart, and huge black cracks, like the gaping maws of a giant beast, stretched across the sky and extended toward the ground.

Soon, the black rift opened up to the ground. The next moment, countless people dressed strangely and wielding bizarre weapons rushed out of the dark rift. Along with these strange people appeared a series of vehicles called trucks.

"Form ranks to meet the enemy!" Accompanied by the familiar shout, the strangely dressed people who rushed out of the black rift quickly began to form ranks. They formed a dense five-row formation, some lying down and some crouching on the ground, placing strange weapons with tripods at the front and objects with round tubes at the rear. All the strange weapons in their hands were pointed in one direction: at the orc army in front of them.

"Attack, leave no one alive." On the ruins of the building at the high point, the pale orc, Destroyer Azog, after the initial shock, issued the order again.

"Woo!" Accompanied by the orcs' horns, the orc army, which had stopped due to the sudden situation, began to charge again, rushing towards the Sky-Bombing Gang mercenary group that had already formed ranks.

"Stay calm, everyone stay calm."

Seeing the dark, charging orc army, Rodan, who was in charge of command, shouted loudly.

Three hundred meters, two hundred meters, one hundred and fifty meters, the orc army was getting closer and closer, and the roars of each orc could be clearly heard.

"Loaded, ready!" Rodon shouted as the orc army charged to within a hundred meters of the mercenary group's lines.

"Click-clack!" With Raton's shout, the sound of bullets being chambered rang out on the front line. The mortars, which had already been positioned, also began to prepare, with mortar shells already in place at their muzzles.

"Fire!" Rodan finally shouted the order when the orc army was only fifty meters away.

"Rat-a-tat-tat-tat..." With Rodon's command, gunfire erupted like firecrackers during the New Year in the city. A torrent of crimson metal from heavy machine guns and automatic rifles rained down on the charging orc army.

"Clang clang clang..."

"Puff puff puff..."

The clanging of bullets piercing metal armor and the sound of bullets entering flesh formed a symphony on the battlefield, like a chorus of millions.

Undeterred, the brave orc army charged forward, falling in rows like stalks of wheat being cut down, and the fifty-meter distance between them continued to widen.

"Boom..." Explosions rang out one after another in the charging army of orcs, bursting into flames like fireworks, tearing apart the corpses of the surrounding orcs. Shrapnel flew everywhere at terrifying speeds, blasting away the orcs around them, and the shockwaves knocked them down in droves.

The mortars also started firing.

These were enormous war beasts, monsters even larger than stone goblins, which were blasted to pieces by rockets.

“Thorin, you’re right. They don’t need any schemes or tricks. What they want is to obtain the treasure legitimately. No, perhaps the treasure isn’t even their goal; it’s just a smokescreen.” Gandalf said to Thorin, shocked as he looked at the orc army that appeared to be being slaughtered. This wasn’t some mercenary group; this was the army of the gods.

“That’s because you haven’t seen how terrifying that person is. He’s not even on the same level as us, whether it’s strength or mindset, the gap is too vast,” Thorin said. “Perhaps they do have some kind of conspiracy, but whatever the conspiracy, we alone cannot stop them; we’re just like a mantis trying to stop a chariot.”

"Yes!" Gandalf exclaimed upon hearing this. If these people truly harbored some conspiracy to plunge the world into darkness, and since they themselves were utterly powerless to stop them, merely throwing their lives away like those orcs, why didn't they leave behind a spark? Perhaps in the future, someone would be able to stop them. Why didn't they preserve their lives and wait for an opportunity?

Standing atop the ruins of the high ground, watching the almost one-sided massacre below, Azog fell silent. His former confidence had vanished; his defeat and the orc army's demise were already inevitable. He didn't even bother to command the orc army anymore, simply ordering them to attack recklessly.

"You know you can't win, so why don't you retreat? Even if you don't survive when you go back, the other orcs will!" A cold voice rang out behind Azog, and Wang Han appeared out of thin air behind Azog, looking puzzled.
