Chapter 16 I haven’t eaten it, but I know it

"As long as I pretend not to hear, the reward will end here."

Wei Lai was concentrating on chewing the candied haws without saying a word. When he ate the last hawthorn fruit, his hands were empty and the candied haws was snatched back by Qingting.

"Didn't you give the candied haws to me? Why are you snatching it back?" Wei Lai looked surprised and watched Qingting open her mouth, take the last candied haws and put it in her mouth.

"I didn't say I was giving it to you, I was giving you two to eat."

The candied haws was placed on one side of Qingting's cheek, which made a round bulge. She blinked her eyes, which were illuminated by the surrounding lights, as if it was a matter of course.

Wei Lai pursed his lips and was speechless.

"Want a reward? I'll take you to a place."

After achieving a small victory, a smile appeared on Qingting's face again. She pulled Wei Lai to the trash can nearby, threw away the bamboo sticks, and continued running in the previous direction.

Before Wei Lai could say that he didn't want the reward, he was pulled to a ring-tossing stall.

"Uncle, give me ten dollars for the ring." Pulling Wei Lai, Qingting took out a ten-dollar bill from her sleeve.

After the ring-tossing stall owner handed six rings to Qingting, she hit Wei Lai with the rings.

"You'll have three."

"I don't want to play again." Wei Lai muttered, but still took three rings from Qingting.

After obtaining three rings, he turned to look at Qingting, "What do we do next?"

"You can throw the ring. Whatever you catch is your reward."

"Oh, I see."

After knowing this was the reward, Wei Lai couldn't help but feel relieved.

But Qingting's next words made him feel nervous again.

"But if what you get isn't as good as mine, you'll be punished."

How could this happen? It was supposed to be a reward, but it turned into a punishment.

A breeze from the river bank blew, bringing moist air and the scent of green grass by the river. Looking at the smiling girl beside him, Wei Lai felt sad in his heart, then turned to look at the things on the stall, and his eyes became serious.

"If you want to compete, just say so. It's not like I'm afraid to compete."

When Qingting saw Wei Lai's serious look, the smile on her face faded, but the sparkle in her eyes did not diminish at all.
