A vegetable garden was cultivated next to the low house. The old man they met during the day was in the garden, carrying a bucket to water the vegetables.
Chai Feng saw him from a distance and shouted:
"Grandpa, someone is looking for you."
"Hey, I'll come after I finish watering the fields."
The old man replied and continued to work in the vegetable garden.
After Chai Feng brought the four people to the statue of Yue Lao and asked them to pay their respects briefly, he took out his cell phone to check the time.
"I'll wait for you here for twenty minutes. If you need to go down the mountain within twenty minutes, I can drive you there."
"If it's over twenty minutes later, I'll have something else to do and won't be able to wait for you."
This statement surprised Wang Zi, who was following behind. "Nowadays, being a Taoist nun can make you so rich. Even a shabby... temple like that can afford a car?"
"Who told you I'm a Taoist nun?" Chai Feng glanced at Wang Zi. "I'm a teacher at Qing University. What I did just now was just to help my grandfather temporarily look after the temple."
Wang Zi's face immediately turned awkward, and he cautiously asked, "What major are you teaching?"
"Do you have any objections to a counselor majoring in Classical Literature also teaching a folk culture course?"
"Um...hello, teacher." Wang Zi thought of the major he had been assigned to and hurriedly lowered his head to greet him.
"Hello, teacher. He and I are both high school graduates who have been transferred to the classical literature major." Tong Duoduo was laughing secretly beside her. When she noticed Wang Zi put his hand behind his back and hooked his finger at her, she quickly ran over to stand with him and greeted him.
"Even if you are students of Qingdao University, the money you paid for fortune-telling cannot be refunded, do you know that?" A trace of embarrassment flashed across Chai Feng's face, but he still continued to speak with a stiff neck.
"Yes, if the teacher doesn't mind, we can treat you to dinner tonight."
"No need for that, I really have something to do tonight."
After saying that, Chai Feng quickly walked to the woods nearby. He felt that he was really unlucky. He was helping his grandfather to look after a temple and ran into his future student.
Wei Lai and Qing Ting had originally wanted to follow Wang Zi and the others to say hello, but when they saw Uncle Chai coming out of the vegetable garden, they decided to go and help him first.
"Grandpa, do you still remember us?" Wei Lai helped carry the empty wooden barrel.
"We just met this morning." Qingting helped take the watering can from the old man's hand.
"Remember, aren't you the couple who took wedding photos this morning? Do you have anything to ask me?"
The old man didn't hide from the two men. He patted Wei Lai on the back and led him to the door of the low house.
In the low house, apart from farm tools, there were only some packed vegetables. It looked nothing like the legendary old Taoist's secluded place. There was not even a bed.
After sitting down on the bench between the baskets, the old man looked at the two people kindly.
"What do you want from me?"
"We want to ask you about this stone."
Wei Lai helped Qingting take off the pendant and handed it to the old man.
…
Just as Chai Feng said, Wei Lai gained nothing.
When asked, the old man just said that he was just picking up stones on the mountain and brought them back if he thought they looked good.
Then he said a bunch of things like 'It's a kind of fate to have a good impression of someone, and things that are destined to be together will naturally be obtained by the person who is destined to get them'.
Unlike her grandfather, Chai Feng is a quick and decisive person. She insisted on sending them back to the hotel even if it was an hour or two away.
She said it was just on her way, but I always felt that she didn't want to take advantage of her school's students.
On the way back in the car.
"Xiaoting, the fortune you drew today was quite accurate. I just wanted to know about the stone, but in the end I didn't find out." Wei Lai said half-jokingly.
"How can someone tell you about this kind of thing as soon as you get here?" Qingting responded in a low voice, while stealing a glance at Chai Feng who was driving.
This family is all weird. Not only the granddaughter can't hear what's in her heart, but the old man can't hear either.
From this point of view alone, their thinking should be correct.
"My grandfather is like that. Even my father can't figure him out. You are still students, so just focus on your studies." Chai Feng explained calmly.
"Then teacher, can you tell me why there is already a statue of Yue Lao at the foot of the mountain and another one on the mountain?" Tong Duoduo was very curious about the statue on the mountain. Normally, there was no temple on the mountain, so it would make no sense to move the statue up there.
"As for this matter, I can only say that my grandfather is a bit superstitious." Chai Feng talked about this matter and then felt a little confused.
"My grandfather didn't want to move to Hangqing City at first, but my father forced him to come so that he could start his own business without having to look at the Yue Lao Temple at the foot of the mountain."
"Although my grandfather was a bit strange, he didn't force him to do anything. He just asked that the stone statue be moved to the mountain behind the temple so that he could worship it regularly."
"Why not put it directly in the Yue Lao Temple?" Wang Zi didn't understand. If one statue could be worshipped, why not two?
"You can ask him about this when you have time. How would I know?"
Just as Chai Feng finished answering Wang Zi's question, the car had already arrived at the hotel where Wei Lai and Qingting were staying.
When getting out of the car, Qingting ran to the driver's window and whispered to her, "Teacher Chai, you asked us to draw lots before going up the mountain. Was it your idea or his order?"
"He ordered it." Chai Feng was a little surprised that Qingting would ask this question, but still nodded.
After the car drove away, Wei Lai walked to her side and found that his girlfriend was smiling very happily.
"What are you doing? I thought you were going to have dinner with Tong Duoduo and the others, but you turned out to be talking to Teacher Chai, and you were smiling so happily."
