Chapter 218 A Little Effort

Behind the Yue Lao Temple.

Qingting came here with Chai Feng yesterday. She just took a quick look and left with her through the back door.

It was a small courtyard, a pond with water lilies, a lounge chair, and a small storage room under the eaves, with nothing else.

After Uncle Chai came to the backyard, he didn't say anything. He took out two stools from the utility room, placed them next to the recliner, lay down on the recliner, and began to rest with his eyes closed.

The meaning was very clear. Wei Lai took Qingting to sit next to Uncle Chai.

"Grandpa, we came here to ask about what happened yesterday. Can you tell us more?"

Wei Lai took the stone from Qingting's hand and wanted to hand it to Uncle Chai.

However, Uncle Chai just glanced at it and shook his head. "Ask me again, and I'll say the same thing as yesterday."

"Then don't you think the stone is any different from yesterday?" Qingting asked.

"There's nothing different about the stone. What's different from yesterday is you yourselves." Uncle Chai glanced at the two of them with a faint smile on his face.

"You're saying something incomprehensible again." Qingting muttered guiltily.

Either there is something wrong with Uncle Chai, or there is something wrong with the fortune sticks in their temple. Qingting is more inclined to the former.

She could not hear any of the thoughts of the grandfather and granddaughter.

"Then, Grandpa, can you tell me why you went out to pick up these stones, besides the beginning?"

Wei Lai had to change his mindset. Since Uncle Chai said that he picked up the stone because he happened to like it, then why did he throw the stone away later and pick it up again himself?

To some extent, having a liking for something can be considered as a way of liking it. If you like it, why don't you give it to others but throw it away without any other reason? It doesn't make sense.

"If I say this is just a hobby of mine, would you believe it?" Uncle Chai's smile became more obvious, and his eyes seemed brighter than before.

"You did say before that you wanted to give something you like to someone who is destined to be with you." Wei Lai didn't immediately refute him and continued, "Since they are destined to be together, why not just let them be together? Why bother giving them something extra? It's just an ordinary stone anyway, right?"

"My child, you are quite intelligent. Do you want to become a monk? This Yue Lao Temple will be yours from now on."

"Grandpa, you're joking."

Uncle Chai's charming smile revealed a Taoist and immortal aura, and Wei Lai just felt embarrassed.

He stole another glance at his girlfriend beside him, and her eyes looking at Uncle Chai showed some dissatisfaction.

Wei Lai put the pendant into Qingting's hand and held her hand.

[Don't be angry, I was probably just joking.]

[I'm not angry about this, it's that this old man is so stubborn. He clearly knows the answer but he won't tell us.]

【I'll try again, don't worry. 】

After comforting his girlfriend, Wei Lai left the pendant to Qingting, retracted his hand, and was about to continue asking questions when Uncle Chai suddenly stood up and walked to the pool in the yard.

"Come here and take a look." Uncle Chai peeled off the lotus leaves in the pond.

Under the lotus leaves, there were many stones similar to the ones on Wei Lai and the others' pendants, but the sizes were different from theirs.

"Shi Tou, is there any problem?" Wei Lai said, pretending not to notice.

"They are stones, for sure." Grandpa Chai nodded. "These stones are essentially the same as the one in your hand. Why did you pick up the one in your hand instead of this one?"

"How would I have picked them up if I hadn't come to your place?" Wei Lai couldn't help but complain.

[Is this old man suspected of being ill? He's asking common sense questions.]

Qingting, who was standing by, couldn't agree more. She began to understand why some people didn't like charlatans.

"This is fate. You didn't come here, didn't see them, and didn't pick up their thoughts. This means you are not destined to be with them."

Uncle Chai took his hands out of the pool, shook them, and sat back on the recliner.

Slowly rocking the recliner, he began to speak: "Everyone will meet their destiny, but who can truly grasp it? The world is complicated, don't let your destiny slip through your fingertips."

"Go back, child. May you be surrounded by people who are meant for you. Don't force things, don't avoid them, just let everything go."

[He's really an old charlatan. ]

"Okay, then, grandpa, we won't bother you anymore."

Wei Lai was speechless, but since Uncle Chai had already ordered them to leave, he still took Qingting's hand and walked out of the Yue Lao Temple.

On the way back, the two of them were not in a hurry and took the bus.

The taxi ride took more than an hour. Although it was not the afternoon rush hour, it would have taken about two hours with the stops and starts.

On the bus.

"Xiaoting, why don't you take a nap first."

"No, I've already slept at noon and can't sleep now."

The way back was long, and Wei Lai wanted to ask Qingting to take a nap, but she shook her head, still thinking about what Uncle Chai had just said.

"I think the old Taoist priest has something else to say."

"What are you talking about? 'Don't force it, don't avoid it' is just some online cliché. You don't really think that old people don't use the internet, do you?"

"It's not this sentence, it's the one before it, 'There are people around you who are destined to be with you.' Doesn't this sentence mean that we should help others?"

The more Qingting thought about it, the more she felt it was possible. She and Wei Lai both had special abilities and were indeed capable of helping others.

"If you really meet someone in trouble, isn't it the least we can do to help each other?"

As soon as Wei Lai finished speaking, a middle-aged man who was standing on the bus suddenly got off.

The people around looked over instantly, but no one came forward to help for a while.
