Chapter 82 Moonlight Ripples

The summer cicadas are still chirping outside.

Wei Lai returned to the door of the boys' host building empty-handed.

The door was open and he walked up the steps of the dormitory building alone.

The dormitory manager was in the dormitory duty room, watching an old TV series on his tablet. He was very curious when he found that he came back so early.

"Classmate, you're back really early."

"Yeah, I just walked around for a bit and came back."

"It seems that you are still a good student. You don't go back home because your home is too far from school. If you have nothing to do, why don't you come over and watch some TV series with me?"

The dormitory manager was very talkative and invited Wei Lai to sit in his dormitory duty room.

"Thank you, but I don't really like watching old TV series." Wei Lai leaned over to the window of the dormitory manager's duty room and took a look at the TV series the dormitory manager was watching. It was the kind of TV series about the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the countryside, and he smiled awkwardly.

"That's right. You young people have your own hobbies. It seems like you are the only one in your dormitory. If you feel bored, call home to let them know you are safe." The dormitory manager glanced at the dormitory list at hand.

"I see. I'll go up then."

After a simple response, Wei Lai went upstairs.

The corridor was quiet.

When he opened the dormitory door, there was no one inside. Even on the balcony, there was only his own military training uniform hanging on the clothes rack.

Wang Zi and his classmates’ military training uniforms have been taken back by them. They won’t need them after school starts anyway, so keeping them would be a waste of space.

Sitting alone in the dormitory, Wei Lai took out his mobile phone to read a novel, but then he remembered what the dormitory manager had just said and dialed Xu Xiang's number.

Wei Lai: "Mom."

Xu Xiang: "Xiao Wei, are you still in school with Xiao Ting?"

Wei Lai: "Well, it's only one day off. We go back today and have to take the bus back tomorrow afternoon. It's pretty boring, so we decided to stay in school and wait for school to start. We have enough clothes and other things, so we don't have to go home to get them."

Xu Xiang: "You've misused your abilities again and said everything I said."

Wei Lai: "I didn't, I just wanted to reassure you."

Xu Xiang: "Your dad misses you very much. When can you come back next month?"

Wei Lai: "Before the National Day holiday."

Xu Xiang: "I guess your dad will nag you again, but it's okay, he has your mom to take care of him. He's already grown up, and it's not nice for him to rely on his son for everything."

Wei Lai: "Maybe Dad is used to it. If you have nothing to do, let's leave it like this for now. Mom, you go to bed early."

Just as he was about to hang up, Xu Xiang called him from the other end of the phone.

Xu Xiang: "Wait a minute, there's no rush to sleep. Son, let me ask you, how is Xiaoting? Have you taken good care of her?"

Wei Lai: "Yes, why do you ask?"

Xu Xiang: "That's good. If you need money, just tell me. I just found some private money from your father today. We can split it 50-50."

Wei Lai: "Uh, okay, I'll tell you if I need money. It's getting late, good night."

After hanging up the phone, Wei Lai observed a moment of silence for Comrade Wei Zikang.

It’s a hardship for married men to hide their secret money and get discovered.

If later...

Wei Lai shook his head and threw away the strange thoughts in his mind.

Why did the image of Xiaoting with her hands on her hips asking him why he hid his private money appear in my mind? It must be that I was bewildered by her topic of practicing love today.

He didn't even read the novel and went into the bathroom.

Wei Lai was planning to wash his face and go to bed when he suddenly received a message on his cell phone placed next to the sink.

[Moonlight Ripples]: Come out of the dormitory, the first love lesson is not over yet.

Moonlight ripples? It's Xiaoting, right? She even changed her nickname to Penguin.

[Wei Lai]: Is this why you returned to school so early?

[Moonlight Ripples]: You’ll know when you come out of the dormitory.

[Wei Lai]: Yes, yes, I’ll be right out.

Put down the towel and pick up the phone.

Xiaoting likes to ask him out in the middle of the night, and Wei Lai is used to this kind of thing.

I still remember when I was in fifth grade, someone in the town said that a group of fireflies appeared in the fields outside the town.

She ran to his window in the middle of the night and called him to catch fireflies together.

As a result, he ran around in the fields for a long time, saying that he would go back after catching one. In the end, he caught her and let her go. I don't know what he was trying to do.

Hopefully, tonight isn't a similar situation.

After coming out of the dormitory, Wei Lai went downstairs and met the dormitory manager again.

"Where are you going now?"

"I'm bored in the dorm, so I went out to get familiar with the school."

"Well, go ahead then. Come back before the dorm closes."

"Okay, goodbye, sir."

Wei Lai thought Xiaoting was waiting for him in front of the dormitory building, and he deliberately dragged the old man to prevent him from looking towards the dormitory gate.

But when he came out, he found that there was no one else except one or two classmates walking back.

[Wei Lai]: I came out of the dormitory, where are you?

[Moonlight Ripples]: Go to the teaching building first.

It was already vacation time, and the teaching building was dark, with only the nearby street lights emitting a lonely glow.

After arriving here, Wei Lai still didn't see any human figure.

[Wei Lai]: I'm here, where are you?

[Moonlight Ripples]: Make sure no one sees you, then walk towards the playground.

[Wei Lai]: What are you playing, Mission Impossible?

【Moonlight Ripples】: You’ll know when you come over.

Wei Lai: ...

It's all out. If Xiaoting is teasing him, he will... pinch her face hard tomorrow.

Wei Lai took one more step and walked towards the playground.

Just when I was halfway there, another message came from my phone.

[Moonlight Ripples]: Look to your left, I'm on the building on your left.
