Chapter 3: Only Girls Hold Umbrellas

After lunch.

Wei Lai left home as he did before, empty-handed, and stood by the electric pole at the intersection, waiting for Qingting to come and go to school together.

After waiting for a long time and seeing no one, I was patted on the back.

Turning around, a pink floral umbrella appeared in front of him.

There is a classic cat and mouse pattern on the umbrella, with Tom holding a ukulele and Jerry holding a triangle, playing together on the beach.

Dad Wei Zikang is a musical instrument enthusiast. Wei Lai has heard him talk about these two instruments, and he has also watched the Tom and Jerry animation.

"Does my umbrella look good? Do you want to share it with me?"

"No, pink umbrellas like this are only for girls like you."

The person had already arrived, Wei Lai turned around and walked towards the school.

Her delicate fingers pinched the umbrella handle, and she followed Wei Lai in a few steps. She leaned closer, her steps light, and asked with her head tilted:

"Are you really not going to share it with me? My umbrella is big enough for both of us."

"No, I won't do that even if you kill me."

Wei Lai shook his head like a rattle. If he really wanted to go to school with a girl holding an umbrella, he could foresee how many classmates would look at him as if they were laughing at him.

[It would be too embarrassing if someone saw me.]

Hearing what Wei Lai was thinking, Qingting blinked and came up with an idea.

"Want to make a bet?"

"bet?"

"Let's make a bet that it will rain before school is over today."

Wei Lai looked up at the sky. It was still the same azure blue with a few white clouds floating in it.

How could it rain in this weather?

"I bet it will rain before school is over today. If I win, you have to share an umbrella with me to your house."

"Even though you will definitely not win, what good will it do you to send me home?"

Wei Lai looked at Qingting suspiciously. Based on his four years of experience, he knew that Qingting must be trying to play a trick on him again.

"You lost. I think your expression will be very funny. You don't need any reward." Qingting turned the umbrella on her shoulder, took a step with her little feet, and jumped across the concrete line on the ground like an elf.

Suddenly, as if he figured something out, he turned around abruptly and said, "By the way, I haven't seen your room yet. If I win, you have to take me to see your room."

What's so good about my room? It's a mess.

Wei Lai muttered in his heart, but still looked up and responded:

"Okay, that's a deal. But on the other hand, if it doesn't rain before school is over this afternoon, you have to return the eraser I used this morning."

"My name is already written on it, do you want one too?"

Qingting blinked in surprise. She didn't expect Wei Lai to propose such a condition.

[When?! They've already written my name on it while I wasn't paying attention.]

Wei Lai secretly hated it in his heart, but he still gritted his teeth and said, "Yes."

You didn’t even know I had written your name on it. What an idiot.

When Qingting heard what Wei Lai was thinking, a smile appeared on her face. She held out her little finger and said, "I really can't do anything about you. Pinky promise."

"Hook."

Wei Lai stretched out his little finger, hooked it twice, and then quickly withdrew his finger as if he was afraid of being teased by Qing Ting.

The weather in September is unpredictable.

The sky was clear at noon, but in the afternoon dark clouds kept floating in the sky, covering the entire sky in a blink of an eye.

Wei Lai was in the classroom, listening to Qiong Yaoyao's lecture at the podium, but his eyes drifted out the window.

[Please don't let it rain. If it rains, I lose.]

"What's wrong? You're worried it's going to rain. You lose."

While the teacher wasn't paying attention, Qingting secretly poked Wei Lai's arm with the tip of a pencil, with a cunning look in her eyes.

He is already in the fourth grade, but he still doesn’t know how to check the weather forecast. He is so silly and cute.

"I haven't lost yet, it's just that the clouds are a little thicker, and it doesn't necessarily mean it will rain."

Wei Lai's eyes drifted out the window again. At least in the future scene he saw, it was not raining.

If he could just hold on a little longer, school would be over. If it didn't rain after school, he would win.

"Wai Lai, please read the following paragraph."

Qiong Yaoyao, who was on the podium, noticed Wei Lai was absent-minded and called him up.

"ah?!"

"This paragraph."

Qingting pointed at the last paragraph in the text and whispered to Wei Lai.

It was much easier to understand which passage it was. Wei Lai picked up the textbook and began to read.

After reading a paragraph, Qiong Yaoyao waved for him to sit down.

"Pay attention to yourself in class next time and don't daydream."

As soon as he finished speaking, the school bell rang.

Wei Lai breathed a sigh of relief and looked out the window again. The rain clouds in the sky were already very thick, and it looked like it was going to rain at any moment, but it hadn't rained yet.

Great! I won.

Qingting was not in a hurry when she heard Wei Lai's thoughts. She swung her feet leisurely.

"It might rain. Students who have registered their names should stay to do their duty. The rest of you should go home quickly."

"Qingting, Wei Lai... the above students will stay for duty. The rest of the students can go home now."

When Wei Lai heard the teacher calling their names, his face suddenly fell. He had completely forgotten that it was he and Qingting's turn to be on duty today.

The rain clouds in the sky have reached a critical point. After gusts of strong wind pulled the grass and trees on the campus, raindrops drew thin lines in the air and arrived as expected.

After finishing his duty, Wei Lai stood on the steps of the classroom, looking at the rain lines covering the sky and the earth, his mood as gloomy as the rain clouds in the sky.

Qingting carried her schoolbag and opened her flower umbrella. She walked down the stairs in two light steps. She turned around and saw that Wei Lai had not followed her. She asked in confusion:
