Chapter 73 Endless Nightmare (Contains slightly scary elements, please be careful if you are not aware)
The sky is bright.
Savannah was awakened by a soft voice.
"Savannah, it's time to get up and do your homework." He opened his eyes and saw a young woman wearing an apron and smiling indulgently at the bedside. Her hair was as bright as roses, and her neck was as slender and graceful as a swan's.
Savannah was stunned for a moment, then rubbed her sleepy eyes.
When he opened his eyes again, the red-haired woman was still leaning over him, smiling beautifully.
It was his mother—the most beautiful, popular, and gentle person in town.
For some reason, I feel like this scene hasn't appeared for a long time, but... it's right in front of me.
"Don't you want to go to Uncle Gel's house to see the mecha today?" The woman reminded him, "You can't leave until you finish your homework."
Savannah was so startled that she almost fell off the bed.
He remembered! Uncle Gel was the only one in town who had an unused mecha at home. People often visited him, hoping to get up close and personal with this powerful piece of mechanical armor. Not only children, but even many adults loved visiting Gel's house to touch and examine the mecha. He had to pester the uncle for a long time before he finally let him in!
Savannah got up without even having time to put on her slippers. She rushed to the desk in two or three steps and almost put her face in front of the calendar.
"October 23..." The little boy with brown hair and curly ends had his eyes lit up and turned around and shouted, "Mom, it's today!"
"So," she pursed her lips and smiled, "Hurry up and finish your school homework, then you can go there in the afternoon."
"I know!" the little boy was full of energy.
Although Savannah grew up in a single-parent family, he had always had excellent grades and was considered one of the top "geniuses" in school. He didn't need to wait until the afternoon; time flew by, and in a flash, he finished his homework before noon.
"Mom, I'm going out!"
"Go home early, or your mother will ignore you."
Savannah ties her shoelaces at the door, pouting, "I know!" She always threatens him with this excuse, but... no matter how late he comes home, his mother still clings to him. It's childish for a grown-up to still act like a spoiled brat in front of a kid.
Before leaving, the brown-haired boy suddenly turned around and glanced at his mother.
The woman seemed to be thinking about what to make for dinner, tiptoeing around the kitchen to find food in the freezer.
Without hesitation, he rushed out of the house like a pony running away. The sun was very strong outside, but Savannah was still very happy and ran to Uncle Gel's house despite the sweat on his head.
The door of the uncle's house was not closed tightly, and a faint "clang clang" sound could be heard from inside, like an extremely unpleasant song.
Is Uncle Gel renovating the house? It's so noisy. Savannah gasped and pushed open the door. Strangely, Uncle Gel's house was dark. The usually bright and airy rooms were now messy with the windows closed and the curtains drawn. There were even some uncleaned food scraps on the floor, emitting an unbearable, rotting smell.
"Uncle?" He tentatively called out to the only half-closed room. But there was no response. The unpleasant sound of someone demolishing something continued to come from that room.
"Clang—Clang—"
Again and again.
"Uncle Ger! I'm coming!" Savannah thought the other party didn't hear him, so he shouted again. After a pause, he walked towards the room where the sound came from.
What on earth is Uncle Gel dismantling? He's so focused...
He opened the door, but saw that the sturdy middle-aged man was not decorating furniture, but using a large and sharp tool hammer. He swung his arm mechanically again and again, hitting a tall machine that was almost unrecognizable.
That is...
Suddenly, Savannah's pupils constricted, and her eyes were filled with disbelief.
That is Uncle Gel's own mecha, which he regards as the most precious treasure in the world and wipes it several times every time he touches it.
"Uncle...Ger? What are you doing?"
The middle-aged man wielding the sledgehammer finally heard his voice and turned around slowly.
The uncle who always had a cheerful smile on his face now tilted his head and half turned his face to the side, meeting his gaze.
There were still food crumbs around the man's mouth, and he looked as sloppy as a barbarian begging on the street. What shocked Savannah the most was that the man's face had become much thinner, and under his thick eyebrows were a pair of green eyes without whites.
In the terrifyingly dark room, there was a green, chilling light.
“?!”
Savannah started and knocked over the broom standing by the door, making a "crackling" sound that was particularly harsh in the suddenly silent house. As if finally being noticed, the man's dark green eyes suddenly focused.
"!" Savannah took a few steps back, forced herself to move her legs, turned around and ran outside, leaving Uncle Ger, who had become a different person, behind. She kept running and running. The only sounds in the whole world were his rapid, breathless breathing and his bursting heartbeat.
"Mother! Mother!--" He shouted all the way and rushed back home, but he did not see the red-haired woman.
Savannah had no choice but to hide in her little room and shiver under the quilt.
He didn't know when the sky outside the window darkened, and the room became chilly. Shivering, he slowly fell asleep.
Until he heard the sound of the door opening and the rustling sound of clothes rubbing against each other in his room.
Mother is back?
Savannah was delighted and opened her eyes suddenly.
But he saw - his mother standing at the head of the bed, looking down at him, also had a pair of the same dark green eyes without whites.
Staring at him without blinking.
The originally thin, white and slender neck was now bulging with terrifying blue veins. Behind the neck, it seemed as if something was wriggling and slowly crawling forward.
“!!”
Everything went dark before Savannah's eyes and she woke up from the nightmare. The sky was still bright.
"Savannah, time to wake up."
Familiar room, familiar figure, he breathed a sigh of relief: "Mom, I had a nightmare..."
"Savannah, time to wake up."
“…”
"Go home early, or your mother will ignore you."
"……good."
"Clang—Clang—"
“…Uncle?”
"……Mother?"
…
It turns out that it is a nightmare that repeats itself over and over again.
"elder brother--"
"Brother Savannah!"
The girl's crying voice pulled him back from hell in an instant.
Savannah's eyelids twitched, and she opened her eyes, her dazed pupils gradually focusing. In front of her was Daya, sobbing and refusing to cry out loud, having released her second form.
He didn't ask her what happened. He silently changed back to human form and sat up. The two half-grown children hugged each other and curled up in the dark.
"Don't be afraid, it's all right now."
Savannah said hoarsely.
