Chapter 74 A Thorny Road

Chapter 74 A Thorny Road

Daya also had a nightmare.

This was the first time she had a nightmare since coming to the pet shop.

Since they escaped from "hell", the frequency of nightmares has decreased from once a night to two or three times a week. Finally, they gradually became sleepy like real cats and could fall into a deep sleep as soon as they closed their eyes.

But... tonight, she dreamed of her former hometown - Planet M32 for the first time in a long time.

After being awakened by a bizarre dream, Daya subconsciously went to Savannah, seeking comfort from her brother. Little did she know that she had just "rescued" Savannah from the nightmare.

The two kids thought they made very little noise, but in fact, the older guys in the other room had already woken up.

Even the most hard-hearted and unmoved person will be moved for a moment when he sees a cub licking its wounds silently in a corner.

Furthermore, Savannah and Daya had already been unconsciously included in their protection. Even Ives, who rarely released his second form in front of children, transformed back into his human form, the silver-haired marshal, when he sensed something was amiss.

However, Savannah and Daya were still immersed in the fear brought by the nightmare and did not notice the adults who were silently guarding them.

Both children were frightened, broke out in cold sweats, and sneezed at the same time.

The next second, the black military jacket fell on them, covering most of the two children and blocking out the coolness of the autumn night.

Savannah, Daya: “!”

Two furry heads popped out from the clothes, and in the faint moonlight, they could see clearly the silver-haired and golden-eyed White Lion boss standing in front of them, whom they had only met a few times.

So... the coat belongs to Big Brother White Lion?

Daya subconsciously sniffed and blinked back the tears that were about to fall from her eyes. She was flattered, but also felt that she had lost her composure.

"Why is Big Brother here?"

The little girl's eyes were still watery because she had just cried. Even Savannah, who was usually very serious, had redness around her eyes.

"You can only see Big Brother, but not Tracy and me?"

Daya's hair was rubbed by a big hand that suddenly stretched out from the side. She raised her head in surprise: "Brother Eli! Brother Tracy!"

"Are you okay?" The blond major general bent down and hugged the two children. His movements were carefree, like hugging brothers, but the force was much gentler. "Did you have a nightmare?"

When asked, Savannah and Daya just nodded and didn't say a word about the content of their nightmare.

So well-behaved that it makes people feel distressed.

In fact... even if the two children didn't say anything, Elvis and the others understood that the planet M32 was a scar on their hearts. No matter how much it healed, it would likely be torn again if they were not careful.

"Sit down and take it easy." Tracy said softly.

The room was thermostatically controlled and the carpet was warm to the touch.

It was rare that the Marshal did not stand upright on the side, but sat cross-legged with Eli and Tracy, the three grown men.

Seeing that they were in a much more casual posture than usual, Savannah and Daya looked at each other and sat down as well, still holding the coats lent to them by big brother White Lion, and refused to let go.

"Savannah, when you grow up, do you want to go to military school?" Elvis said lightly.

Savannah shuddered when she heard the man's question. The fiery flames dancing deep in her eyes brightened considerably. "I want to!"

"Why?" This is the question the Marshal asks again and again every year at the trial ceremony of the First Federal Military Academy, to the young candidates with expectations and passion on their faces.

Why do you want to make yourself stronger?

Is it because of the gap and inferiority, the urgent desire to get rid of cowardice, or is it due to interest, or is it a heart that wants to protect?

There will never be a unified and correct answer to this question.

A positive spirit can inspire the heart. But... Elvis has always believed that negative energy may not necessarily prevent people from moving forward on the right path.

Savannah blurted out, “I want to be strong!”

Two years ago, his mother was infected, and so were all the adults in the town. He knew nothing about it, and even the Zerg, which he only learned about by chance after escaping his hometown. When he escaped the town and tried to seek help from the outside world, he discovered that not only his hometown, but the adults on the entire planet M32 had "changed."

"What else?" he continued.

Savannah was startled, and subconsciously glanced at Daya, then said firmly: "I want to protect Daya and everyone."

A silver lining—in M32, the Zerg never parasitized children. Perhaps it was because young children didn't provide the energy they needed. But... parasitized humans would gradually become indifferent, losing their emotions and rationality.

Letting a child with a small mind stay with a parasite who only cares about his or her own matrix needs will lead to the loss of food, love, and protection, and he or she will eventually move step by step towards despair.

He had thought about helping children like him who had been forced to leave their homes or were trapped in parasitic families during their wanderings, and Savannah had put her efforts into action. However... the only one who persisted to the end, willing to stay by his side, relying on him for everything, and escaping "hell" with him was Daya.

Ives didn't say anything, but just used his eyes to signal him to continue. Savannah hesitated for a long time before slowly probing, "I want a mecha of my own."

I want to fulfill the promise I made to Uncle Ger.

"I want to be as good as the older brothers."

The saddest thing is to have no choice but to "escape" when facing the enemy.

No one looked amused or confused; they were all listening very attentively.

Gradually, Savannah fell into deep thought: "I also want to join the Federation Legion and fight against the Zerg with them."

"I want to stop the Zerg invasion."

"Absolutely... I must take revenge on them!"

The boy, who was less than 14 years old, had a rage in his eyes that was almost bursting out. But that rage was complex, condensed, and heavy. The fluctuations were enough to infect anyone who looked at him.

"I want to... protect every planet destroyed by the Zerg!!"

This is the road to Savannah's future, accompanied by thorns and glory, and ahead are countless pioneers who are equally lonely and determined.

Elvis pursed his lips imperceptibly, as if smiling, but the upward arc of the man's lips was very small, so subtle that it was almost non-existent.

"Remember what you said tonight." The silver-haired marshal, who was usually reluctant to praise his soldiers, gave encouragement for the first time.

“I await their realization.”
