Today, the Chen family collected a lot of dried flowers and flower baskets, and set off early in the morning to sell them in the county town.
Today, after selling flowers, Chen Laosi, Chen Kai, Xiao Tian, and Da Ya saw that they still had some time, so they gave a dried flower to the stall next door and asked him to watch their things. Then they went shopping. This time, Chen Kai insisted on walking by himself and wouldn't let his fourth brother carry him.
As they walked, Chen Kai felt a bit hungry, so he tugged at Chen Lao Si's sleeve, rubbed his stomach, and said, "Fourth Brother, I'm a little hungry. Let's go buy something to eat!"
Chen Laosi picked up Chen Kai and said, "Little brother, shall I buy you some steamed buns? Da Ya, Xiao Tian, are you hungry? If you are, what would you like to eat?"
Daya said happily, "We made so much money today, let's go to a restaurant to eat! I've never eaten at a restaurant before!"
Chen Laosi said with a troubled expression, "Eating at a restaurant is too expensive. Let's go to the wonton stall next to the restaurant and eat wontons! The wontons are delicious!"
Xiao Tian thought to himself that his fourth uncle was really stingy. He made so much money, but he wouldn't let them go out to eat at a restaurant.
When the group reached the restaurant entrance, Da Ya stared at the people going inside to eat and said enviously, "I want to go in and eat too!"
Suddenly, a maid-like woman approached Chen Kai and his group. She stood in front of Chen Lao Si and said, "Young Master Chen, our young lady has reserved a private room and would like to invite you up for dinner."
Chen Kai, who was in Chen Lao Si's arms, said, "Who is your young lady? If you want to invite my fourth brother to dinner, we should go in together." He then gestured for the man to look at Daya and Xiaotian beside him.
The maid said, "You've met my young lady before; she's the one who bought a lot of flowers from your house this morning."
The maid turned to look at the two of them and then said, "My young lady has ordered a lot of food; they can come over together."
In the morning, shortly after they opened, a little girl in a pink dress came in and bought a lot of flowers.
The girl chatted and laughed with her fourth brother for a long time, trying to get information out of him, but her fourth brother was only focused on selling dried flowers and uninspired by the romance, selling a lot of dried flowers to people.
Before Chen Laosi could even speak, Daya, thinking that she could finally go into the restaurant to eat, immediately said excitedly, "Fourth Uncle, Fourth Uncle, let's go in quickly!"
Chen Laosi said with a smile, "Alright! Let's go in then!"
Seeing that they had agreed, the maid led them inside.
The tavern was indeed very lively, as it was dinnertime and the place was packed with people.
The maid led them upstairs to a private room and said, "Young Master Chen, my young lady is inside." She then knocked on the door.
"Come in!" a man's voice came from inside the private room.
Chen Kai asked Chen Laosi to put him down. After the group entered the private room, they saw that the table was full of food, which was very plentiful.
Upon seeing Chen Laosi and his group enter the private room, the girl in pink whom they had met that morning spoke up, "Young Master Chen, do you remember me?"
Old Chen smiled and said, "Of course I remember you, young lady. You bought so many dried flowers from our house, how could I forget?"
The girl in pink smiled and said, "Just call me Bai Lian. This is my brother, Bai Hua. He happens to be in the area on business, so I had him join us for dinner."
Then she said to her brother, "Brother, this is Chen Ke, a friend I just met. These are Chen Ke's family."
Bai Hua nodded to them as a greeting, and Chen Lao Si, seeing Bai Hua's indifferent expression, also nodded distantly.
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Bai Lian immediately invited Chen Lao Si and the others to sit down and eat, and then said, "Young Master Chen, I have ordered some dishes first. Do you have anything else you would like to eat? You can order some more dishes."
Chen Laosi said with a smile, "No need, Miss Bai, this is enough for us. We can order more if it's not enough."
Daya and Xiaotian were already seated at the table. Chen Laosi noticed that Chen Kai wasn't sitting on a stool and glared at Daya reproachfully, wondering why she was only thinking of herself. Then he helped Chen Kai to a stool.
After they sat down, they started eating. They didn't usually have the chance to eat such good food. Old Chen asked, "Is there any staple food?"
Miss Bai said, "Yes! Would you like rice or steamed buns?"
Old Chen said with a smile, "Just give us a few bowls of white rice."
Miss Bai called out, "Waiter, bring us a few bowls of white rice."
A short while later, the waiter brought over the white rice.
Chen Laosi and Da Ya wolfed down their food, eating what was in their bowls while eyeing what was on the table.
While eating, Daya mumbled, "Sister Bai, this meal must have cost a lot of money! Your family is really rich!"
Miss Bai said with a smile, "Our family is one of the wealthiest in the county, and our dye shop ranks among the top three in the county."
Daya exclaimed in shock, "Wow, that's amazing! Your family must make a lot of money every day!"
Miss Bai smiled and said, "My family does make a lot of money, but your family must have made quite a bit too recently. Your dried flowers are selling very well. Young Master Chen, how did you come up with the idea of dyeing dried flowers to sell?"
Chen Laosi swallowed what was in his mouth and said, "I just discovered it by chance. How could I miss out on making money like this!"
Miss Bai asked, "Is the dye your family buys expensive?"
Chen Laosi said vaguely, "I don't know exactly how much it cost. My parents found someone to buy it for me, but it shouldn't have been expensive."
Before long, the dishes on the table were almost all gone, and everyone was full. Miss Bai asked with a smile, "Young Master Chen, have you finished eating? Would you like some more?"
Old Chen let out a burp and said, "No need, Miss Bai, we're all full."
Daya asked, "Sister Bai, can we pack some food to go? My family has never had such good food before, and I'd like to take some back for them to eat."
Miss Bai smiled and said, "Of course you can, but you've eaten enough. I'll have the waiter go to the kitchen and have someone make another portion for you to take away."
"Da Ya, how do you make your dried flowers? I've never seen dried flowers like this before. They look so beautiful!"
Chen Kai said with a smile, "Sister Bai, we just found some dried flowers on the mountain. We picked the pretty ones and took them home to dye."
Da Ya rubbed her full stomach and continued, "After it's dried, we'll take it out and sell it."
The group spouted nonsense, blatantly lying, without mentioning where their dyes came from or how the dried flowers were made.
