Chapter 248 Laba Festival Activities

Activity 5: Bamboo basket weaving competition. Anyone with skills can participate. Groups of 10 people will weave bamboo baskets of a certain size. The first person to weave a basket of good quality will receive two large pieces of cactus.

Activity Six: Embroidery Competition. Anyone with skills is welcome to participate. Groups of five will sew warm sleeves. Whoever finishes first with the best quality will receive a cactus.

There are a total of six activities, which end when it gets dark.

While Old Man Chen and the others were eating large chunks of fatty meat, after listening to the fifth brother's description of the activities, they waved their hands and said, "Then let's play!"

The three village chiefs quickly struck the gong to summon everyone.

After the group assembled, everyone was overjoyed to hear that the Chen family was going to hold a Laba Festival event and give away food for free.

The only ones looking worried were the patrol team and the guard team, who had to stay on duty and couldn't participate in the activities.

However, Old Man Chen also promised that he would give each member of the patrol team and guard team on duty a piece of cactus as a Laba Festival gift today.

The three village chiefs led the people to divide the activity area, and the others found people to form teams and sign up.

Chen Xiaohua got tired of cutting cacti in the shed and shouted, "Niu Niu, go and recruit ten people to cut cacti. Give each of them a piece of cactus as payment. Also, those who carry loads should be included; for every fifteen loads they carry, they get a piece of cactus."

Cooking and daily life all took place outside the cave. Old Man Chen, sipping his pork rib soup, said, "You guys cook this meat slowly. I'm going to eat the meat while supervising them."

Everyone played until they were sweating in the cold winter.

Old Man Chen and his family also participated in the tug-of-war competition, while the Zhou family participated in the relay race.

Needless to say, the eldest brother and his group will definitely participate in every activity they can.

Most games are grouped by age group, except for quiz games.

Therefore, a major mishap involving the father and son inevitably occurred.

"Dad, you're so stupid! I know how to answer this question, but you don't!"

Many parents brought their sons and daughters to participate, only to find that they couldn't even beat the children.

In the past, when Anping Village was doing well, the children in the village had all attended school for a period of time, so it was not surprising that they could surpass their parents in some aspects of knowledge.

The adults with children in line behind them, seeing how badly the situation had turned out, all made excuses and sneaked away.

Let's wait until there are fewer people and sneak over, otherwise it'll be too embarrassing in front of the kids.

Outside the resting area, three children, two teenagers, and a woman were warming themselves around a fire.

They were the people the Anping Village Alliance had kindly saved along the way, and they had been following behind the Anping Village Alliance team.

They had nothing, and the fire was started by borrowing flint from the patrol.

Seeing how lively their place was, everyone couldn't help but feel envious.

At this moment, a member of the patrol team came over and said, "Our team is holding a Laba Festival event, and the organizer, the Chen family, has invited you to participate."

One of the boys exclaimed excitedly, "Really? We can go in too?"

The patrolman laughed and said, "Yes, the prize for the event is food. Hurry up, the event will end when it gets dark."

The group dragged their tired bodies over, and seeing how lively it was, they quickly followed the crowd.

Just then, Shirakawa ran over, grabbed the two kids, and said, "Come on, team up with me to blow on the torches. If we win, we'll split the cactus."

The two children looked at each other, but still went along.

The remaining people, feeling uneasy, went along as well.

Shirakawa handed the bamboo tube to the child and said, "Drink some hot water first, and I'll teach you how to blow it later..."

After winning the prize, the two children stared blankly at the cactus. This was... food? What strange food. Was food so easy to get?

Shirakawa said, "You two are together, right? I'll cut the cactus in half, one for me and one for you."

The children nodded blankly.

Shirakawa: "Sigh! Fine, I won't bully you anymore. I'll give you this bamboo tube too."

The child happily said, "Thank you!"

They didn't expect to get food so easily, and they also had a bamboo tube, which they were worried about because they had nothing to put water in.

When the people from the county alliance heard that the Anping Village alliance was holding some kind of Laba Festival activity, they all gathered around, wanting to participate.

The three village chiefs refused their request, allowing only a few of the village chiefs and their families to participate.

Those who couldn't participate, or those who had some kind of nepotistic relationship with the team, could only grumble and complain outside.

Village Chief Bai said coldly, "They still have the energy to curse? Looks like they're living a pretty good life."

No sooner had he said that than several people fainted while cursing.

The three village chiefs didn't care and simply turned and left.

One of the men in the group was called out. He didn't know which distant relative this was, but he and his wife were introduced by this relative.

When the old woman saw the cactus in his hand, she snatched it away and began to wolf it down.

The man's brows were furrowed tightly. He had cleaned it because he was worried that it might hurt his wife, but he was called out right after he finished cleaning it, and an outsider had gotten the benefit.

The man sighed and could only turn and leave.

The old woman quickly pulled him back: "Little cowboy, give me more food, give me more!"

The man shook him off, saying, "We're even now. Don't come looking for me and my wife again."

The old woman said in a panic, "No, please, just give me one piece, just this big piece. Also, give me a few bamboo tubes. Do you have a hoe? Give me a hoe too."

Just then, a stone spear came flying at her, and the old woman quickly dodged it.

The captain of the second guard team frowned and said, "Why aren't you on guard duty? What are you chatting about here for!"

The man gave him a look, meaning, "Thanks!"

He has to stand guard today and can't participate in the activities; the cactus was won by his son.

The guards are a bit bored, so they're allowed to help remove the thorns from the cacti, as long as it doesn't interfere with their work.

Several village chiefs from the county alliance brought their families to the event. They were informed of the rules in advance and were warned not to cause trouble. Being kicked out would be the least of their worries; they might even be beaten to death.

After being intimidated, no one dared to act recklessly, but once inside the team, many people still couldn't contain their desires.

A little boy saw several children carrying a clay pot, intending to pour water into it to cook something, and walked over happily.

Then he snatched the earthenware jar away and threatened, "If you dare tell the adults, I'll beat you until you cry! Now, give me your bottle of water too!"

"Waaaaah—"

The children immediately burst into tears, as they had borrowed the pottery jar from the Chen family.

The guards heard the crying and rushed over.

The boy tried to run away but was caught. A young boy snatched the pottery jar back and said, "Go ask whose it is. Once we find it, we'll send both of them out together."
