Chapter 230: Purpose?
"They ran away?"
Li Erlang looked at the long dagger in his hand, which was covered in blood, and asked Li Dalang.
"Are you chasing me? Brother."
Li Dalang wiped the blood off the dagger on his sleeve, then put the dagger back into his boot. He then stretched his hands behind him and grabbed Xiao Silang's legs to make him more comfortable.
After doing all this, Li Dalang said to Li Erlang, "We can't catch up. That person's lightness skill is superb; I'm no match for him."
Li Erlang pointed to the dead man in black on the ground and asked Li Dalang, "What should we do with this?"
"ah!"
Xiao Silang felt his little bottom being lifted up, and only after he knew that Li Dalang had finished beating him did he open his eyes. By the light of the moon and the light from the overturned oil lamp on the ground, he saw the man in black lying on the ground, motionless.
Although the bloodstains were not visible, the smell of blood was still noticeable.
Although Koshiro was only eight years old, he knew that the man was probably dead, which is why he was so shocked.
Li Dalang patted Xiao Silang's bottom before saying to Li Erlang, "Never mind that, let's go back first. It should be over by now. We'll tell the soldiers later."
Li Erlang nodded and used the momentum to climb over the courtyard wall.
Li Dalang was even more impressive; carrying Xiao Silang on his back, he could leap over the courtyard wall, which was taller than a person, and the three of them made their way back to the Li family home step by step.
Li San Niang, who had just been brought to the entrance of the neighborhood, was already drowsy.
Seeing the torches lit at the gate, Li San Niang reached out to pat her cheeks to clear her head, but her arm started to ache terribly as soon as she tried to move it.
When they arrived at the street where the Li family lived, not to mention the soldiers who followed her and Xu Jingzhen, even Li San Niang didn't need to look at Qiu Xiang and Shi Jiu's expressions to sense that something was unusual about this place.
The marks left on the ground and the metallic smell of blood in the air were all too obvious.
Qiu Xiang quickly rode her horse to the Li family's gate, jumped off, and knocked on the door.
Li San Niang couldn't wait any longer and shouted directly from her horse, "Father, Mother, Eldest Sister-in-law, Second Brother, and Second Sister-in-law, are you all alright?"
After Li Sanlang opened the door and welcomed Li Sanniang and the others into the courtyard, Li Sanniang learned what had happened just a quarter of an hour earlier.
Li San Niang hurried inside to check and saw that Xiao Si Lang was sitting properly on a stool, eating a slice of melon. Lu Zhu'er and Xing Xiao Lang were sleeping on a low couch nearby, and Xiao Wu Lang was sleeping soundly in a basket.
Then she went to look at Li Erxiong, who was bandaging Li Dalang. When she got closer, she saw the wound on Li Dalang's arm and felt really sad.
Li San Niang's expression spoke volumes about what she was thinking.
"Aunt, it's not your fault."
Xiao Si overheard this; they were originally going to snatch back the young man from the Xing family whom we had saved.
My situation with Xiao Si was due to the young man from the Xing family; it had nothing to do with my aunt.
These words stirred up quite a few emotions in Li Sanniang's heart.
What's so important about a merchant who's just got some money? Why do you have to kidnap his young master?
What is the purpose of the Temple Gate?
What is the purpose?
Short of money?
No way! According to Mr. Bu Ke, the Temple Gate has been rooted in the Western Regions for many years and has its own trade routes. Several of the major merchants in the Western Regions that can withstand scrutiny on the surface all have unclear and ambiguous relationships with the Temple Gate in secret.
Therefore, how could the Temple Gate possibly lack money?
Although the Temple Gate employs many loyal assassins, or those who serve them for money and profit.
To support so many elderly people, it's impractical to hire a shady gang leader first, as everyone knows how much money that would cost.
However, given the Temple Gate's methods of accumulating wealth, they certainly don't seem to lack money.
So, if it's not for money, why do they insist on capturing Xing's young master?
What's the real story behind this?
After Brother Li Er finished bandaging Brother Li Da, Brother Si was sitting on a stool, nodding and dozing off.
Father Li brought in two bowls of medicine, one for Xiao Silang and the other for Li Dalang.
Looking at the still-steaming bowl of herbal soup, Xiao Shilang really didn't want to drink it.
Li Dalang downed the medicine bowl in one gulp, and seeing Xiao Silang's uncomfortable appearance, he grinned and said, "Alright, drink it quickly. The bookstore will release a new picture album later this month, I'll buy it for you."
Upon hearing this, Koshiro's face immediately lit up with a smile. In the end, for the sake of the picture book, Koshiro still held his nose and drank the bowl of calming medicine in one gulp.
After Xiao Silang fell asleep lying side by side on the low couch with Lu Zhu'er and Xing Jiazi, Li Dalang finished telling the five soldiers who followed and protected the Li family about how he confronted the man in black in the local temple.
"We'll handle the matter at the temple ourselves. It's our fault for not protecting him properly, causing Brother Li to suffer. We apologize."
Li Dalang shook his head, returned a fist salute, and, along with his father and second brother Li, saw the five people out the door.
Turning around, the three of them looked at Xu Jingzhen, who was still talking to Li Sanniang in the courtyard, and exchanged bewildered glances, unsure of what to do.
Nineteen, who had been standing to the side, was quite perceptive. Looking at the moon in the sky, she said, "Oh dear, it's already past four in the morning? Third Sister has to go back to the clinic for her shift during the day. I wonder if she'll be able to rest a little longer?"
Xu Jingzhen, being quick-witted, immediately realized that this was a signal to urge him to leave.
"Presumably, the Xing family is of use to the Holy Temple, but I wonder what their use is?"
Third Sister, you must be tired today. Please rest early. Jingzhen takes her leave.
After seeing Xu Jingzhen off, Li San Niang had her arms rubbed with the medicinal oil that Li's father had given her by Qiu Xiang. She yawned and didn't lie down fully clothed until almost dawn.
However, Xu Jingzhen, who had left the Li family, did not go home. Instead, he returned to his position in the Ministry of War. Before Xu Jingzhen could finish writing the memorial to be submitted, he received an imperial edict summoning him to the palace for a meeting.
Moreover, at the palace gate, Xu Jingzhen encountered Di Renjie, whom she had just met that night.
"Di Shaoqing".
Seeing Xu Jingzhen's appearance, Di Renjie knew that he had also not slept all night.
"Assistant Xu, was he also summoned by the Emperor?"
Seeing Xu Jingzhen nod, Di Shaoqing said, "Then let's go together."
When the two arrived at Daming Palace, they were searched by soldiers before being allowed to enter the hall.
As soon as Xu Jingzhen entered, she saw Xue Yao kneeling on one knee, and Mr. Impossible sitting in a wheelchair next to Xue Yao.
Xue Yao, the commander of the Imperial Guard, was someone Xu Jingzhen recognized.
She also had contact with Xue Yao because of the assassination attempt on Emperor Wu. In Xu Jingzhen's eyes, Xue Yao was Emperor Wu's number one weapon of mass destruction, who was taciturn, aloof, and highly skilled in martial arts.
Sitting in a wheelchair, dressed in pure white, looking aloof and noble, Mr. Bu Ke was seeing him face to face for the first time.
Although they had never met or spoken a word to each other, judging from his appearance and the time he appeared before Emperor Wu, Xu Jingzhen naturally guessed that this was probably the leader of the Bad Guys in secret, Mr. Unbelievable.
After Xu Jingzhen and Di Renjie entered the hall, they first bowed to Emperor Wu, who was sitting at the head of the table. Only after Emperor Wu said "Rise" did they stand up straight and stand right next to Mr. Bu Ke.
"Alright, what are you still kneeling for? Get up."
After Emperor Wu moved to a side hall and sat down, he beckoned, and Wang Da Dang pushed Mr. Bu Ke's wheelchair over.
Di Renjie then turned and headed towards Emperor Wu, with Xu Jingzhen following behind him.
After serving tea, Wang Dang approached Xue Yao, who was still kneeling on the ground, and said, "Commander Xue, please get up."
Xue Yao looked up at Emperor Wu, who rolled his eyes.
Only then did Xue Yao realize that Emperor Wu was not angry, and he stood up.
Emperor Wu took a sip of warm tea, deliberately pushed the snacks on the table towards Di Renjie, and then said to Xue Yao, who was already seated, "Alright, stop looking so gloomy. Tell my beloved ministers what happened."
