Chapter 13 Battle Royale
The man approached them slowly with excitement, his eyes bulging out in an abnormal way, covered with terrifying red blood vessels. Then, the scars that snaked across his face began to slowly lengthen and thicken, eventually even reaching his abdomen.
Amid the man's cries of pain, the scar began to crack and expand, revealing a pair of hands covered in blue and red veins that slowly emerged from it, followed by a face obscured by hair that was no longer human.
Those hands tore open the scars, like taking off clothes, and "undressed" the man, leaving only a complete human skin on the ground.
Chu Jianshan then got a clear look at this monster that could not be called human. Its cracked mouth extended all the way to its ears. It had no eyes or pupils, its hair was disheveled and hanging down on both sides, and its hands were abnormally long, almost dragging on the ground. Its black fingernails took up half of its hand length.
"What...what the hell is this?" Ji Shi asked, trembling.
His catchphrase was right this time; they were indeed facing a "ghost" now, and a ghost that could eat people and suck their blood.
Ji Shi subconsciously asked Chu Jianshan what to do. It seemed that without realizing it, Chu Jianshan had become the backbone of the three of them.
Chu Jianshan raised his eyebrows slightly, crossed his arms over his chest, and asked him calmly, "Do you know what the fastest and most effective way in the world can handle all kinds of tricky troubles?"
"What?" Ji Shi was full of surprise, and his hope was rekindled.
Run!
Chu Jianshan shouted, then turned and ran towards the door. His movements were swift and decisive, without any hesitation.
"..."
Ji Shi cursed Chu Jianshan a thousand times in his mind, but still had no choice but to follow him and run away frantically.
Cheng Yuan stayed put, buying them time. The Flowing Sound Sword was drawn on command, spun twice in the air, and then landed beside Cheng Yuan.
The monster was much faster than the lame man, and it reached Cheng Yuan in just a few steps. It slashed through the air with its fingernails, and Cheng Yuan dodged to the side, only to find that the monster's target was not him at all, but was trying to catch up with Chu Jianshan and Ji Shi.
It passed by Cheng Yuan and rushed forward. Liuyin Sword followed, piercing the monster's back, but it had no effect. The monster seemed to feel no pain, and there was no bleeding from the wound. After Liuyin Sword was withdrawn, the wound slowly healed.
The monster was too fast. Chu Jianshan and Ji Shi were blocked at the door before they could run out. Then it raised its hand and swung its claw. Chu Jianshan leaned back and barely dodged it. At the same time, he grabbed the monster's claw and twisted it almost half a circle.
The sound of bones breaking came from its wrist, but it was of no use. It spun back and reconnected itself, then used its other claw to scratch Chu Jianshan's left shoulder.
Chu Jianshan was knocked back a few steps by the huge impact, but was caught steadily by Cheng Yuan behind him.
Chu Jianshan glanced at the injury on his shoulder and couldn't help but sigh that this shoulder was really unlucky; why was it always this shoulder that got injured?
Chu Jianshan and Cheng Yuan exchanged a glance, then rushed forward to fight the monster. Spiritual power was useless against it, and their wounds would heal instantly. Chu Jianshan really couldn't think of anything that could restrain it.
Ji Shi, who was standing nearby, had already crouched down and waddled away from the battle scene, hiding behind the door. Compared to Chu Jianshan and Cheng Yuan, his cultivation and skills were no different from trash; going up there would only cause trouble.
With Mo Yang Sword in Cheng Yuan's possession, Chu Jianshan suddenly lost his handy tool, making the fight more difficult and gradually putting him at a disadvantage.
"Chu Jianshan! Here!"
Along with the sound came Ji Shi's sword. Cheng Yuan tacitly stood in front of Chu Jianshan, blocking a few blows for him so that he would have time to receive the sword.
Chu Jianshan wielded Ji Shi's nameless sword with effortless skill. Taking advantage of Cheng Yuan's distraction of the monster, Chu Jianshan raised his hand and thrust the sword straight into the monster's face.
Chu Jianshan thought it would not react like the previous times, but this time it actually raised its head and roared. As soon as it raised its head, the hair on its face spread to both sides, and Chu Jianshan could see the scar on its face clearly. It was exactly the same as the scar on the face of the lame man from before.
So this seems to be its weakness.
"Cheng Yuan!" Chu Jianshan called out.
Cheng Yuan was different from Ji Shi. Chu Jianshan didn't need to explain to him; he would understand on his own. So, the two of them simultaneously quickened their pace of attack, each move aimed at its face.
But the monster seemed to be enraged by Chu Jianshan's sword strike. Its body began to swell slowly, and its strength increased significantly. With a single claw strike, Cheng Yuan and Chu Jianshan were both thrown back, crashing into the screen behind them and falling to the ground.
However, its attack did not slow down and it charged again. Cheng Yuan got up first to block its attack and attracted its attention. Chu Jianshan understood and went around to its back, wanting to give it a fatal blow.
Cheng Yuan was clearly unable to withstand the attack, and he could no longer dodge the monster's claw attack. Seeing this, Chu Jianshan quickly withdrew his sword and threw out Xiao Jin, hoping it could block the attack for Cheng Yuan.
The barrier formed on the ground and enveloped Cheng Yuan, but contrary to Chu Jianshan's expectations, the barrier failed to block the attack. The monster's claws pierced through the barrier and slashed at Cheng Yuan.
Fortunately, Cheng Yuan realized the situation was not right and rolled to the side twice in time, so the move was not fatal.
Unlike the time Cheng Yuan was shaken open by powerful spiritual energy, this time the barrier didn't break but was directly penetrated, which means that the barrier was useless against it.
"Are you alright?" Chu Jianshan asked.
"I won't die." Cheng Yuan knelt on the ground, panting heavily.
This answer was exactly the same as when Chu Jianshan was injured last time.
Chu Jianshan raised an eyebrow slightly and said again, "Then let's do it again."
"What?"
"Attract it one more time, then I'll attack."
"..."
Cheng Yuan was also about to curse, but he had no choice but to listen to him and pick up the Flowing Sound Sword again to attract the monster's attention.
The exact same situation as before played out again. Cheng Yuan was knocked away once more. He closed his eyes tightly, bracing himself for another slash.
The expected pain did not come. Cheng Yuan opened his eyes and saw the monster standing in front of him. Chu Jianshan's sword pierced into the back of the monster's head and came out through the scar on its face.
The monster was no longer able to move. Chu Jianshan pulled out his sword, and it slowly collapsed to the ground.
Cheng Yuan finally let out a sigh of relief, but before he could even catch his breath, he heard Chu Jianshan say, "Hurry up and go!"
Cheng Yuan looked up and saw that the scars on the monster's face were also expanding and lengthening, and then a pair of hands emerged from the scars—the hands of the lame man, and the human skin that had just fallen to the ground beside him had also disappeared.
Chu Jianshan grabbed Cheng Yuan and ran towards the door, with Ji Shi following immediately.
The three of them ran out of the house and saw the funeral procession pass by them again. They thought that everything was fine now, but Chu Jianshan glanced back.
The monster in the house had finished "molting" and had turned back into the lame man.
Strangely, this time the man didn't chase after them. Instead, he stood there, staring at them with bloodshot eyes, and then snapped his fingers.
The funeral procession outside the door stopped abruptly, then slowly turned around to look at the three of them. Their eyes, like the monster's, had no pupils.
The next second, they all rushed over.
"No way, not again!!" Ji Shi shouted.
Then the three of them started running away in unison.
Just kidding, one person already beat them to this extent. If a whole group came, then the coffins in the line would be for them to use.
"Wow, how can these people be so fast?!"
Ji Shi ran and howled, almost bursting into tears. He never dreamed that he, who had always been afraid of ghosts, would one day be chased by a group of ghosts!
Ji Shi was truly exhausted and snatched his sword from Chu Jianshan's hand, throwing it away forcefully, hoping to stall for as long as possible.
The sword did indeed pierce some people, no, not pierce them, their bodies were like water, the sword passed right through them as soon as it touched them, leaving no wounds and not slowing them down.
"It's no use," Chu Jianshan kindly reminded him from the side. "They are all illusions formed from obsessions. We, as physical beings, cannot harm them."
Ji Shi was filled with despair and was just about to resign himself to his fate when suddenly his eyes lit up and he asked a brilliant question.
"Since they are all illusions, and we can't touch them, then they can't touch us either!"
Ji Shi thought his brilliant idea was something no one else could have come up with, but Chu Jianshan only glanced at him and didn't answer. Because the facts had already answered him.
Ji Shi was caught up by one of the "ghosts" and screamed in fright. The "ghost" raised its hand and slashed him with its claw, sending him flying and rolling several times on the ground.
Chu Jianshan asked with a smile, "How are you? Does it hurt?"
Ji Shi clutched his backside, on the verge of tears: "This isn't fair..."
"Well, that's their territory."
Chu Jianshan leaned back to dodge another attack and shouted to Cheng Yuan, "Cheng Yuan, hold onto Ji Shi, don't let him fall behind, we're almost there!"
"No, where to?"
Ji Shi was completely confused and before he could figure it out, Cheng Yuan grabbed him and pulled him forward.
After running for an unknown amount of time, Cheng Yuan saw Chu Jianshan stop ahead, so he also stopped and looked back at the group of "ghosts" rushing towards him.
"No, why have you stopped running? They're almost catching up!"
Ji Shi was extremely anxious, but Cheng Yuan and Chu Jianshan remained calm and didn't move an inch, just staying in place to catch their breath.
Chu Jianshan seemed exhausted. He sat cross-legged on the ground, propped himself up with his hands, and leaned back, breathing heavily.
Cheng Yuan took a couple of breaths, straightened up, and asked Chu Jianshan, "This is the real entrance, isn't it?"
Chu Jianshan smiled slightly and nodded to him.
