Chapter 5 The Bride
A dark and windy night, a time for murder and arson.
However, they didn't come to kill or commit arson; they came to be brides.
The fortune teller was absolutely right. Now, only 20% of the guards in the Tang family mansion remain, barely enough to guard a few gates. The rest are all in Miss Tang's room.
However, a problem has arisen: the walls of this richest man's house... are just too high!!
Who would be so kind as to build such a high wall? Who are they trying to keep out of?
Cheng Yuan and Ji Shi, having spiritual power, were naturally not afraid, so they only managed to defend against Chu Jianshan.
Cheng Yuan sat on the wall, one leg bent, his arm resting naturally on it, watching Chu Jianshan struggle below with a smile on his lips, without offering to help.
Chu Jianshan's pride got the better of him, so he didn't ask Cheng Yuan to pull him up, and just kept trying.
After countless failures, Chu Jianshan was truly exasperated and muttered to Cheng Yuan above, "Give me a hand."
If you don't listen carefully, you really can't understand what he said. Cheng Yuan, perhaps not having heard clearly, asked Chu Jianshan, "What did you say?"
Chu Jianshan was so angry he almost laughed. This person was doing it on purpose! It didn't matter, he would endure it. He was the master, after all, so naturally he had to give way to the junior.
So, with a forced smile and a forced, insincere tone, he said, "Give me a hand~"
Cheng Yuan still asked, "What did you say? I didn't quite hear you."
Chu Jianshan was truly furious this time. He turned around and left, thinking he might as well fight someone through the main entrance.
Seeing that Chu Jianshan was about to leave, Cheng Yuan clicked his tongue, jumped down, pulled Chu Jianshan back, and half-embraced him.
Before Chu Jianshan could react, Cheng Yuan carried him over the courtyard wall and landed steadily on the grass.
Chu Jianshan pushed him away, pretending to brush off the dust from his clothes, not even knowing where exactly he was dirty.
After entering the Tang residence, everything went smoothly, and they soon found Miss Tang's boudoir.
The three of them stood around the door of the girl's room. Ji Shi poked a hole in the paper window with his finger, stuck out his butt, and stared wide-eyed inside.
The sound of two women talking could be heard coming from inside the room.
"Miss... are you really going to marry into the Liang family?"
"Yes, what's wrong?"
"But weren't you the one I hated the most before..."
"Don't bring up what happened before. I didn't see Liang Lang's true feelings then."
"yes……"
Ji Shi was watching intently when he suddenly felt something touching his neck. He couldn't help but shrug, but after a while, the strange sensation returned.
Ji Shi couldn't help but feel a little angry, and lowered his voice to say, "Chu Jianshan, don't touch me!"
Chu Jianshan looked completely bewildered. "I didn't touch you."
"Who is that!" Ji Shi turned around and indeed did not see anyone else.
As a result, the sachet he had pinned to his belt floated up out of thin air.
Ji Shi: "..."
Seeing that he was about to shout, Chu Jianshan hurriedly tried to cover his mouth, but it was too late.
"Ahhhhhh!!! It's a ghost!"
"Who's there?" The people inside the house became alert and were about to rush out.
In a flash, Cheng Yuan immediately opened the door and cast a freezing spell on the people inside and the guards who rushed over after hearing the commotion. The people who were about to rush over were immediately frozen in place.
Chu Jianshan casually grabbed a handful of soil and scattered it in the air. The previously invisible demon immediately revealed itself, carrying Ji Shi's sachet and drifting around.
"What...what the hell is this?"
Ji Shi squatted behind Cheng Yuan, peeking out half of his head.
“It’s not a ghost,” Chu Jianshan replied. “It’s a stealthy demon that likes to hide and play pranks on people. It’s not very dangerous.”
After he finished speaking, he gently tapped it with his finger, and the thing picked up the sachet and spun around twice, making a chirping sound.
Ji Shi finally dared to straighten his back, calm his pounding heart, and slowly said, "So this is what the book calls the Demon Escape Technique. I've never seen one in Changjin Mountain before..."
"Changjin Mountain has always preferred to teach book knowledge, but rarely lets them go down the mountain to gain experience. The result is obvious."
As he spoke, Chu Jianshan glanced at Ji Shi.
"here we go again."
Ji Shi snatched the sachet back from the demon's mouth and dusted it off.
"How come you always seem so familiar with Changjin Mountain? Could it be... you're a spy?"
Ji Shi squinted at him, while Chu Jianshan turned his head away, pretending not to look at him.
"Don't ask, he won't tell," Cheng Yuan said in time to defuse the situation. "Let's deal with the people inside first."
As Cheng Yuan and his group entered the house, he slightly raised his hand, and the immobilization spell that had been attached to them was released.
The maidservant quickly spread her arms to block Miss Tang, stood still, and stammered, "Who...who are you? How dare you trespass on private property?"
Cheng Yuan bowed slightly to Miss Tang: "Miss Tang, please don't be offended. We've come to ask some questions about Liang Shide."
Tang Yi pushed aside the maid who was blocking her way and calmly asked, "What do you all want to ask? Has Liang Lang offended any of you?"
Cheng Yuan took the painting out of the bundle and unfolded it in front of Tang Yi: "I wonder if Miss Tang recognizes this painting?"
Upon seeing the painting, Tang Yi's expression became unnatural. She slowly walked back and sat down at the table.
"If you have come to tell me about Liang Lang's affair with that courtesan, then there is no need. I trust Liang Lang's character."
"You mean, this painting is of that courtesan?"
Tang Yi neither agreed nor disagreed, but simply picked up her teacup and took a sip of tea.
That's it then.
Cheng Yuan asked again, "Does Miss know that the courtesan is dead?"
Tang Yi sneered and said, "She died because she was unlucky and didn't make it out of her illness. What does that have to do with Liang Lang?"
Cheng Yuan naturally didn't believe this explanation and asked for confirmation: "Is it really just as simple as getting sick?"
"Otherwise what? Did I kill him?"
Tang Yi took two steps closer to them and threatened, "I advise you to leave right now, or don't blame me for being impolite!"
Cheng Yuan didn't want to get entangled with her any longer, so he turned to look at Chu Jianshan, wondering why he hadn't said a word the whole time.
Chu Jianshan clenched his fist and pressed it against his lips, lowering his head as if he were thinking about something.
He had a vague feeling that something was off about this Miss Tang. She spoke without any apparent faults, but her eyes were blank, as if she was speaking without thinking. Moreover, according to what he had heard a few days ago, Miss Tang and Liang Shide had not known each other for very long, so why did she trust Liang Shide so much?
"What's wrong?" Cheng Yuan asked.
Chu Jianshan finally came to his senses and shook his head at Cheng Yuan, indicating that he was alright.
So Cheng Yuan asked Tang Yi one last time, "Regarding the Zuichunlou case, we suspect it's related to Liang Shide. Would you allow us to meet him?"
Tang Yi's face was gloomy, and her eyes were full of indifference as she looked at them. "What do you think?"
"Then I'll have to offend you."
After saying that, Cheng Yuan raised his hand and knocked Tang Yi unconscious on the ground without any hesitation.
"Miss--"
Seeing that the maid next to Tang Yi was about to rush over, Chu Jianshan drew Ji Shi's sword from beside him and held it to her neck.
"If you want your young lady to live, you'd better cooperate with us."
"What...what do you want to do?"
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you, all you need is... the wedding dress."
"Wedding dress?" The maid was completely bewildered.
A quarter of an hour later, Chu Jianshan, dressed in his wedding attire, emerged from behind the screen. The phoenix crown on his head was so heavy that he could hardly walk.
Cheng Yuan and Ji Shi were stunned when they saw Chu Jianshan dressed in wedding attire.
Chu Jianshan was already handsome, but the maid's styling made him even more so. The lip rouge covered his originally pale lips, making him look more radiant. The tassels on his phoenix crown swayed with his steps, casting shadows on his jade-like face.
Cheng Yuan had always thought he was a quiet and unassuming person, but he never expected that the bright red wedding dress would suit him so well, and his whole demeanor would change.
It's like... a pure lotus flower that has been stained with blood, maddening yet possessing a deadly allure.
Cheng Yuan was stunned for a moment, and it wasn't until Chu Jianshan coughed twice that he came to his senses.
"Wow..." Ji Shi spoke first: "Not Chu Jianshan, but this suits you so well!"
Get out of my way!
Chu Jianshan pushed away Ji Shi, who had been sticking to his side and looking around, found a stool to sit down, rested his chin on his hand, and closed his eyes slightly.
"I advise you to rest first, otherwise it will be dawn again, and there will be a tough battle to fight tomorrow."
"Yeah, I didn't sleep well last night."
As he spoke, Ji Shi let out a huge yawn, found a spot to lie down, and soon fell asleep.
Cheng Yuan turned to look at the sleeping Chu Jianshan. The slight redness on his cheeks was hard to tell whether it was from rouge or his natural skin color. His lips were slightly parted as he slept, and his breathing was even.
For some reason, Cheng Yuan's heart was beating erratically. He raised his hand to check his pulse and found that there was nothing wrong with his body.
He took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and went outside, hoping the night breeze would make him feel better.
Little did he know that as he opened the door to leave, Chu Jianshan slowly opened his eyes, gazing at his retreating figure with unreadable emotions hidden in his eyes.
