Chapter 8: Competition (Part 1)
Electric snakes streaked across the night sky, tearing a bright corner from the pitch-black night.
When Jian An Ning rushed to where Jiang Tan was, the thunder had stopped and the dark clouds gradually dispersed. In the mess, she stood facing the wind in a moon-white dress, as cold and aloof as if she were transformed by the moonlight.
Jian An Ning nodded secretly and thought to himself: He is worthy of being my disciple.
Jiang Tan leaned slightly towards Jian An Ning in the moonlight and asked, "Master, are you here to congratulate your disciple on his breakthrough as well?"
Jian An Ning nodded. She could feel that Jiang Tan's cultivation had reached the middle stage of the Golden Core Realm.
"As expected of a disciple of Yuxuan Peak, he has already broken through to the middle stage of the Golden Core at the age of about a hundred years. No matter where he is, he can be called a child of destiny."
Jiang Tan was not overwhelmed by the praise. He was not surprised by the praise and replied to Jian An Ning in a neither humble nor arrogant manner, "Master, you are too kind. Everything depends on your daily guidance."
"You mean me?"
Jian Anning didn't want to continue this awkward situation of mutual commercial flattery, so she pointed at herself and said.
Jiang Tan raised his head slightly to look at her, thinking that this person is always going to cause some trouble. What will his master, who has finally been normal for a while, do next?
"Teacher actually feels that your own efforts are more important," Jian An Ning said, a hint of resentment in her tone, and then added: "After all, more than one person has said that you are more suitable to go to Yuqing Peak and join those crazy cultivators."
Jiang Tan: ...
here we go again.
Her master was very concerned about her concentration on cultivation, but it was clear that she had never missed a collective mission on Yuxuan Peak. She just kept practicing when there were no mandatory tasks from the sect.
"Since I have already joined Yuxuan Peak, I will never defect to anyone else." Jiang Tan could only promise again.
Jian Anning nodded, seemingly taking her words in. But the next moment, she continued, "Then can you withstand the test?"
"Of course." Jiang Tan said very frankly.
To be honest, she did not join Yuxuan Peak completely voluntarily like her senior brother, but since she had grown to the Jindan stage under the protection of Jian An Ning, she naturally would not do anything to betray her teacher and ancestors.
"Very good." Jian An Ning put away his playful expression, looked at her seriously, and said, "My cave was blown up by your senior brother, so I have to live with you for a while."
Jiang Tan:?
She never thought it would be this kind of test!
She doesn't like living with others at all!
In order to avoid the thunder tribulation during the breakthrough from destroying her cave, she specially chose a place far away from her own cave to go into seclusion, but this was not to take in Jian An Ning!
Jian An Ning saw Jiang Tan's face turning pale and blue, which was quite a strange sight.
She knew this second disciple quite well. He looked cold and unapproachable, and in fact, he was very difficult to approach. It was probably the extent that anything he said except polite words would be choked back.
He didn't have the slightest intention of getting along well with her and Fan Qingyue. It was as if he had stubbornly drawn a line between himself and others from the very beginning, and was equally unfamiliar with everyone outside the line.
Jian An Ning felt that this was not a good thing and decided to help her correct this problem.
There is absolutely no intention that the second disciple is fun to tease.
"Master, my cave was just struck by lightning." Jiang Tan politely rejected Jian An Ning's request.
"However, your real cave is not here. This is a temporary cave you opened for your retreat."
As Jian An Ning spoke, she leaned weakly against Jiang Tan and said tearfully, "Can you bear to watch me sleep in the wilderness?"
Jiang Tan obviously didn't want to get so close to anyone. She subconsciously pushed him away, with thousands of thoughts churning in her mind. Finally, she came up with a solution.
"Master, shall I build you a new cave?"
Before Jian An Ning could say anything, Jiang Tan quickly slipped away.
Jian An Ning was left standing there alone, with a look of visible confusion on her face.
She had just secretly checked and found that there seemed to be something abnormal about her second disciple.
Jian An Ning scratched his head and wondered why he hadn't noticed before. Jiang Tan had reached the middle stage of the Golden Core in just a hundred years and was pointing his sword at the Nascent Soul. It was either destiny or there had to be another reason.
Obviously, if what was written in that crappy book was true, then the person who was truly destined to succeed was Ye Qingzhou, not any of her disciples.
Jian An Ning sighed, chased after him, and brought back Jiang Tan who had gone out to look for materials. He said, "Master has other things to do, so the cave abode matters can be put aside for now. You should go back and recuperate for tomorrow's sect competition."
Jiang Tan was a little confused, but still obeyed his master's words.
Jane Anning herself ran under a tree.
In the cold winter, all the leaves of the trees have fallen off, but the snowflakes remain on the branches, so the bright moonlight can fall directly on the people under the trees.
She leaned against the tree trunk, took out the book from her arms, took a deep breath, and began to frantically search for the part about Jiang Tan.
The next day, Jane Anning's eyes were filled with bright red bloodshot.
She threw the book to the ground and stomped on it a few times. She was so angry that she almost burst into flames after reading the book.
But there was only a very simple sentence about Jiang Tan's past.
"Jiang Tan, a direct descendant of the Yingzhou Jiang family."
Jian An Ning knew that the immortal cultivation families that were able to establish their own territory all had some bloodline inheritance, but no inheritance would hurt its own people like this, right?
But she felt that Jiang Tan's meridians were on the verge of rupture.
Jian An Ning wanted to find out more about Jiang Tan's situation, but her second disciple always kept a distance from strangers and didn't want to get too close to acquaintances.
She was lost in deep thought, so she didn't notice that the sect competition had already begun.
The disciples of Qingyun Sect gathered at Yunxiao Peak.
The Qingyun Sect's competition pairs people up according to their cultivation level. Because there are so many disciples, the Yuqing Peak disciples who are in charge of presiding over the competition try their best to arrange people with the same cultivation level together.
The competition is also conducted from those with lower cultivation levels to those with higher cultivation levels.
Therefore, the first competition to be conducted is the stage of drawing qi into the body.
There are countless cultivators at this stage, and as long as they are watched by cultivators in the Foundation Establishment stage, they will not be able to cause any major trouble, so Yunxiao Peak is full of competition arenas.
The winner will compete with others, and the loser will be disqualified immediately.
Even if there are more monks in Qingyun Sect, as the fighting goes on, the remaining people will inevitably gather together.
For example, at this moment, Ye Qingzhou was looking at Lu Fei in a red dress.
Ye Qingzhou secretly stretched his muscles and bones, thinking that God was really helping him. He had long wanted to teach this ungrateful person a lesson, but was just worried that he had no suitable reason.
When monks who have just entered the realm of cultivation fight, they seldom use magic, so most of the fights are just fistfights. For monks who can fly and hide, such fights are somewhat boring.
Even the monk in charge of refereeing seemed a little distracted.
Therefore, no one noticed the overly intense battle between Lu Fei and Ye Qingzhou.
Ye Qingzhou had no intention of letting Lu Fei go, and had already made preparations for victory, but he did not expect that Lu Fei would be such a tough nut to crack.
He didn't want to waste his preparations on Lu Fei, but if he didn't use them now, he would probably be beaten up by Lu Fei.
They were clearly just using their fists and feet, but Ye Qingzhou's eyes seemed to be bursting with a fierce fighting spirit, and his moves were accompanied by the flow of spiritual power, which was already vaguely showing the trend of being able to reach the next level.
Lu Fei soon fell into a disadvantage, but Ye Qingzhou had no intention of stopping.
Coincidentally, Lu Fei had no intention of admitting defeat.
Thus, the one-sided situation began to develop towards Ye Qingzhou's unilateral abuse, and still no one noticed.
Until Fan Qingyue arrived and when Ye Qingzhou was pinching Lu Fei's neck and refused to let go, he separated the two and protected Lu Fei behind him.
He frowned at the young man in front of him and said, "Qingyun Sect competitions are always limited to a certain point. Are you going too far?"
The monk in charge of refereeing just came back to his senses. He looked at Fan Qingyue with a little surprise, and then looked at Ye Qingzhou on the fighting field.
Although he didn't understand what happened, it didn't stop him from ruling that Ye Qingzhou was the winner.
Upon hearing this, Fan Qingyue frowned even more and said to the cultivators in the fighting arena, "How can this person win even if he disregards the friendship between fellow disciples in the sect competition?"
The referee monk could sense the aura of a Jindan stage cultivator from Fan Qingyue. He did not dare to neglect it. After a few thoughts, he replied tentatively, "But, I didn't see it?"
Fan Qingyue's confusion intensified. What did he mean by "didn't see it"? A cultivator from the Qingyun Sect would never be so irresponsible.
He thought about it and felt that the problem still lay with the cultivator who was competing against his junior brother.
So he asked, "What's your name? Which peak are you from?"
Ye Qingzhou sensed the other party's ill intentions and immediately changed his expression. He acted unwillingly and said, "Ye Qingzhou from Yuxu Peak."
"Who are you, sir? You wouldn't come here to question me just because your fellow apprentice has been wronged, would you?"
"you!"
Fan Qingyue has never liked verbal battles, and when Ye Qingzhou choked him, he didn't know how to fight back.
Lu Fei was not very good at those eloquent skills. He walked out from behind Fan Qingyue. The purple and red pinch marks on his neck formed an extremely tragic contrast with his fair skin.
Then he said calmly, "You want to kill me."
The referee monk felt that something was wrong and quickly sent a message to Yuxu Peak, who was in charge of the discipline.
And said: "Is there some misunderstanding here?"
Ye Qingzhou also decisively backed down and said, "It was probably because I lost my composure during the fight."
Fan Qingyue didn't think so. Judging from Ye Qingzhou's strength and the fact that he continued to strangle the other party even after he had fallen down and stopped resisting, it seemed like he did it on purpose.
But why?
Is there any deep hatred between Ye Qingzhou and Lu Fei?
Why didn't the referee monk notice anything unusual?
