At fourteen, she finally understood what it meant to be heartbroken.
Her efforts will always be in vain.
No matter how outstanding or hardworking she is, in her mother's eyes, she can never compare to a single hair on Tang Yujiao's head.
Or rather, her mother never compared her to Tang Yujiao; in her eyes, she was unworthy!
But the next evening, her mother was unexpectedly kind to her. Knowing that she liked strawberry cake, she bought some for her beforehand.
But she didn't dare to eat it, because she remembered that once she ate her sister's cake, just one bite, and her mother not only slapped her but also made her spit it out.
She hoped that this time her mother would treat her well, just like her father did, because she considered her her pride.
However, this expectation was shattered by reality in just a few seconds.
Mom said that when Dad comes back, she will tell him that she plans to repeat a year of high school. She said she doesn't want to go to university and wants to wait for her older sister to go to the same university so they can take care of each other.
She was disheartened and understood why her mother wouldn't let her go to university.
She just didn't want to hear people say that the Tang family's youngest daughter was much smarter than the eldest daughter.
She refused without hesitation.
This was the only time in her life that her mother refused to hit her, because her father would be back from his business trip the next day and the bruises would be visible, so her mother didn't hit her.
Mom scolded her angrily, then took her cake away and, right in front of her, broke it open and gave it to her older sister.
From childhood to adulthood, maternal love, to her, meant that people living in different social classes could never afford an expensive luxury.
She was already very humble, trying her best not to compete with her sister.
But she didn't know where she went wrong.
Why is it that even though they are both her mother's daughters, her mother doesn't like her at all?
Her childhood and adolescence were almost entirely dark.
Only her father would always step forward and, like a god, lift her up when she faced all her fears and self-doubt.
"My dear, your teacher called to say you got first place in the whole grade. I took a special leave to come back and be with you. My darling daughter, you are truly my pride."
She nestled happily in her father's arms, but dared not cry.
On the one hand, she was afraid that her father would worry about her and blame her mother. If that happened, it would be harder than climbing to heaven for her to get even a little bit of tenderness from her mother.
On the other hand, she was afraid, her father also felt she was guilty, and the only sunshine turned into a cloudy day.
Once, she cried and said, "Dad, I'm sorry. I only got third place in the grade. I shouldn't have skipped a grade. I'm sorry, Dad."
As always, her father picked her up, wiped away her tears, and looked at her with a mixture of amusement and pity, his eyes full of doting affection: "Girl, you're third in the whole grade, not third from the bottom, why are you crying?"
She was very scared and confused for a while. She even thought that her father loved her because of her good grades.
If things don't go well.
Will I end up like my mother, no longer loving her?
She looked at him cautiously: "But I did poorly on the exam, my grades aren't as good as before."
"There are so many students in the whole grade, and you even skipped a grade and got third place. This shows that your grades are even better. Even if we take a step back, studying is not necessarily the only way out. With a smart mind, you will never be at a disadvantage. You are still your father's pride."
His words were like a little sun, warming her heart.
It gradually made her believe that there is still love in the world.
