Chapter 27 All I heard on New Year's Day was you telling me to kiss you.
It's snowing.
The first snow in over twenty years.
Light snowflakes fell on Yan Yuehe's hair, her eyelashes trembled, she opened her eyes, and her gaze went straight into Gou Qing's extremely dark pupils.
Their hot, soft lips pressed awkwardly together. She flinched back in a panic, forgetting her surprise at the snow. Her eyes glistened with tears as she scolded her dog-like in-laws, "How could you not close your eyes, my darling?!"
Gou Qing chuckled, bent down again, and before she could react, closed her eyes and kissed the corner of her lips, this time only briefly.
He pulled Yan Yuehe, who was about to step down the stairs, towards him.
Seeing her staring at him with disbelief, Gou Qing leaned closer with a straight face: "The first time you kiss someone, you don't know you have to close your eyes. I just learned how."
Yan Yuehe was amused and annoyed by his words: "What do you mean? Should I praise you for learning quickly?"
His pleading look is strikingly similar to that of a chubby boy begging for food.
Gou Qing raised her hand and gently stroked the top of her head: "No need to praise me, just reward me with another kiss."
Yan Yuehe: ...
Because of the snow, Yu Zhi happily sent a message in the three-person ordering group.
"Hey everyone! It's snowing today. I've heard that snowy days and hot pot go perfectly together!"
No one replied to him.
Undeterred, Yu continued to promote the hot pot: "The supermarket downstairs just received a new batch of goods; the vegetables and meat are at their freshest right now. If you don't eat now, when will you?"
Still no reply.
Yu Zhi @Yan Yuehe: "Yuehe, let me tell you, my brother not only knows how to make hot pot dipping sauce, he also knows how to make hot pot broth, it's so super super super super delicious!"
He waited for a few minutes.
Yan Yuehe replied, "Shut up."
Yu Zhi: "...?"
Yu Zhi exclaimed in horror, "Yuehe, are you still Yuehe? Have you been possessed by my brother?"
Yan Yuehe: "Go home and bring the three dogs to your house to play."
Yu Zhi remained calm. He was certain that the person holding Yan Yuehe's phone was not Yan Yuehe herself, but his brother.
Yu Zhi obediently rolled back.
His brother was tidying up the yard at home, while the three dogs were playing happily nearby.
"Brother, where's Yuehe?" he leaned closer. "Why are you holding her phone?"
Gou Qing stood up and threw the trash into the bin: "She's taking a nap, and you kept sending messages, it was so noisy, don't you understand?"
I don't understand.
His brother could have used his own phone to shut him up, but he insisted on using Yan Yuehe's phone instead, like a dog that wanted to show off but couldn't.
Gou Qing hummed an off-key song and asked him, "What kind of hot pot base do you want to eat today?"
Yu Zhi was in high spirits. He no longer needed Yan Yuehe to help him order food: "Brother, I want sour soup and spicy soup!"
"Clear broth, tomato." Gou Qing ordered two contrasting flavors, glancing disdainfully at his useless younger brother. "Nong Nong has been feeling hot-tempered lately, so he can't eat anything with strong flavors."
Yu Zhi smiled: ...Since his brother has already made up his mind, why ask him?
But it doesn't matter. Yu Zhi, who is easy to feed, is happy to eat hot pot made by his brother.
Amidst the rising steam, New Year's Eve finally arrived.
On the last day of the year, Yan Yuehe finished her ongoing comic, sent the manuscript to her editor, and stretched as she walked out of the room.
Fatty, dressed in a bright floral jacket, lay in the warm living room chewing on a ball.
It's too cold, even the little dog doesn't want to go outside in the cold wind.
Her courtyard is different from Gou Qing's; it has no roof, so naturally she can't open the door with the air conditioning on.
As darkness fell outside, fireworks occasionally shot into the sky and flashed by.
Yan Yuehe spoke on the phone with Ms. He Yanli, who was far away in Altay.
She was watching the Spring Festival Gala while holding her baby, while her parents were lying undignifiedly in the snow on the other side of the phone.
“Nongnong, the New Year’s Eve dinner must be sumptuous. If you’re too lazy to cook, just order from a restaurant outside. Ask your dad to reimburse you after you’ve ordered.”
Yan Yuehe said, "I'm going to my dog's in-laws' place for dinner later."
"Why didn't that child come home?" Ms. He Yanli asked her daughter while making a snowball.
“He’s back.” Yan Yuehe rested her chin on Pang Bao’s head and rubbed it against him. “He came to find me after he finished eating at home.”
Yan Yuehe originally planned to spend New Year's Eve alone, but Gou Qing pitifully pleaded, "This is the first New Year since we got together."
However, Yan Yuehe knew that Gou Qing didn't come home often, so the two of them agreed to compromise. She agreed to let him come and spend New Year's Eve with her, and he agreed to go home for a meal first and then come over.
Gou Qing arrived at Yan Yuehe's house around 8 o'clock.
The first thing we did after closing the door was to hug each other and kiss.
Gou Qing smiled, his eyes crinkling, and his thin lips lightly touched Yan Yuehe's face. Yan Yuehe dodged back, saying, "So cold."
He did it on purpose; he always liked to tease her like that.
Gou Qing finally released her, glancing indifferently at the lone, fat baby lying on the ground.
"Just throw on a long down jacket and we're off," Gou Qing said. "No need to change."
Yan Yuehe hadn't planned to change. She had taken a shower after finishing her drawing. Her loungewear was panda-themed, so it was fine to wear it as outerwear.
She put the panda ear hat on her head, went inside to get her coat, and Gou Qing put a rope on Pang Bao outside.
Young couples should be together.
Of course, the three dogs in the family should be together.
Gou Qing brought pre-made raw dumplings from home, which would be cooked in ten minutes.
Yan Yuehe took a bite, and the meat dumpling burst with juice!
She was scalded and her thumb circled around Gou Qing.
"Gou Qing, this is delicious!"
She no longer dared to call him "in-law." Gou Qing would shamelessly lean in and kiss her, and after the kiss, he would act spoiled, saying, "I didn't hear the word 'in-law,' I only heard you tell me to kiss you."
Gou Qing was preparing other food, and the large TV in the living room was playing the Spring Festival Gala. Although there was no one in front of the sofa, the whole house seemed particularly lively because of the sound.
Gou Qing opened his mouth and said "Ah": "Nong Nong, feed me."
Yan Yuehe had just been burned, so she blew on it before putting it into Gou Qing's mouth.
Gou Qing looked at her, and without taking a bite, said, "It's really delicious."
They ate until they were about 70% full in the kitchen without having to take the food outside.
The two sat down on the sofa, and the coffee table was filled with all kinds of nuts that Gou Qing had brought from home.
His home, filled with a black-and-white, high-tech feel, is now covered with "福" (good fortune) characters, both incongruous and perfectly fitting.
As the countdown to the Spring Festival Gala began, Yan Yuehe, who had been yawning several times while leaning on Gou Qing, suddenly sat up excitedly and shouted along with them, "...three, two, one!"
Gou Qing beat him to the punch with the first line: "Happy New Year, Yan Nongnong."
Yan Yuehe hugged Gou Qing's neck, not minding at all: "Happy New Year, Gou Qing!"
The three puppies in the yard were startled by the fireworks that kept going off outside.
"Woof woof woof!"
