Chapter 5. Then let's not let it see us.
When Yan Yuehe ran back to the pet grooming salon next door, Pangbao was having its fur dried.
The shop assistant looked up in surprise: "Fatty's mom, your face is so red, did you get sunburned?"
It wasn't sunburn, it was belated embarrassment.
“Maybe.” Yan Yuehe raised her hand and touched her face. To make it more believable, she added, “The sun is very strong outside today.”
"It's really hot this year. Right now, the temperature is at its highest. The puppy's paws are so hot from touching the ground that they're practically jumping up." The salesperson who was blow-drying Pangbao's fur is definitely the store's top seller. "Pangbao's mom, would you like to buy Pangbao some paw protectors? We're having a promotion right now: buy two get one free, buy five get three free."
Yan Yuehe: "...Let's buy two."
The shop assistant deftly put paw covers on Fatty, patted his bottom, and Fatty jumped to the ground by himself.
Majestic and imposing, another good dog.
After paying the bill, Yan Yuehe led the gold-devouring puppy home.
When passing by the pet hospital, Pangbao first bared its teeth and cautiously circled around to the other side of Yan Yuehe, then inexplicably barked loudly into the hospital.
Its cry was so sudden that Yan Yuehe was startled.
"We're not taking you in, we're just passing by," Yan Yuehe reassured the puppy, unsure if it understood. "Let's go home."
Fatty's tail was wagging so hard it was almost blurry, and it was pulling on the leash as if it was about to rush to the vet.
Yan Yuehe: ?
Could it be that it smelled Atlas?
It couldn't possibly be a telepathic connection between puppies, could it?
"No! No way! You can't!" Yan Yuehe had just experienced the embarrassing encounter of scratching the castle with her toes and didn't want to go through it again. "Your body hasn't recovered yet, you can't play with Princess Atlas."
The puppy didn't care about any of that; it wiggled its big butt and charged in.
He ignored his mother's advice and wasn't afraid of any dangerous places anymore; all he wanted was to rush in and get intimate with his wife.
Yan Yuehe tightened the rope, shortening it little by little, and tried to carry Pangbao away when he wasn't paying attention.
Fatty's weight has increased again these days. Yan Yuehe hasn't weighed it, so she's unsure if it has surpassed the 30-kilogram mark again.
As Gou Qing led Atlas out, they heard a girl's distraught voice from the doorway: "Fatty, you really need to lose weight!"
The Border Collie came galloping over from the side.
Gou Qing wanted to kick this fat dog far away from his Atlas.
However, despite the pitiful gazes from not far away, he still bent down and intercepted the energetic fat dog halfway, pulling it into his arms.
Weigh it twice.
Wow, you've really gotten fat.
Fatty struggled and was slapped hard on the bottom.
Yan Yuehe was reluctant to discipline him, but Gou Qing was willing to.
The fat dog in my arms finally calmed down, sticking out its big head and gazing longingly at the Border Collie princess below.
"Woof~ woof woof... woof~"
Atlas is always reserved; no matter how excited it gets, it won't run around or bark. It raised its head, glanced at its dog boyfriend, put its ears behind its ears, and gave a simple whimper.
Gou Qing lifted her eyes: "Come here."
Both dogs were surrounding him, and he was clearly not barking.
Yan Yuehe was furious with her good-for-nothing son, but she had to maintain a semblance of dignity in front of outsiders.
Family scandals should not be aired in public, and education should also be conducted behind closed doors.
"Hey, you dog-like in-law, what a coincidence, we've run into each other again." Yan Yuehe glanced at her silly son with annoyance, then slowly moved over. "How were Atlas's test results?"
It's as if it's saying: What a coincidence! It got to meet his wife entirely through its own efforts.
Gou Qing said succinctly, "She's pregnant."
Yan Yuehe looked up in shock, staring blankly at him for a moment, stammering, "Pregnant...pregnant?"
"She'll give birth in about thirty or forty days," Gou Qing said flatly. "Your fat dog is really something."
Thirty or forty days? She gave birth then!?
What kind of puppies can be produced by a Chinese rural dog and a Border Collie? A mix of black, white, and yellow? Yan Yuehe couldn't imagine it.
Yan Yuehe took a deep breath, trying to stay calm: "Atlas is also a wonderful baby."
Her praise was far more sincere than his.
Gou Qing: ...
He stared at her for a few more seconds, making sure she wasn't defending the fat dog against him, then glanced at his watch: "Want to grab something to eat? We can chat about the two dogs while we're at it."
After returning from her business trip, Gou Qing hadn't eaten yet. She took a quick shower and then brought Atlas for a checkup.
Now I have an extra big dog weighing several tens of kilograms in my arms, so it's not easy to hold it.
A day apart feels like three autumns; my dog son hasn't seen Atlas for a while and misses him even more.
Yan Yuehe knew she couldn't drag her stupid son away, so she could only reluctantly agree, "Okay."
"Give me the rope." Gou Qing stretched out a hand from among the blond hair. "You hold Atlas's leash, and I'll hold your fat dog's leash."
After exchanging leashes, Yan Yuehe weakly spoke up for her dog son: "Although it really needs to lose weight, don't call it Fat Dog, it will make it feel inferior. Just call it Fatty."
Gou Qing looked at the shameless yellow dog in front of Atlas and couldn't see anything in its inferiority complex.
He raised an eyebrow and retorted, "Don't 'fat' and 'fat' mean the same thing?"
Yan Yuehe: "...But 'dog' and 'treasure' are not the same thing."
Gou Qing was speechless for a moment, then wanted to laugh: "Fine, it's treasure it is."
His thoughts started to wander: "You don't like being called 'Bao' (a term of endearment for a child), do you?"
Yan Yuehe blinked her round eyes and said seriously, "Anyway, I don't like being called a dog."
"Okay, Fatty." Gou Qing smiled and decided not to argue with her about this.
Having secured the right to name her dog son, Yan Yuehe contentedly took a half-step back.
Gou Qing was more familiar with the place than Yan Yuehe. He didn't ask for her opinion and led the fat dog to his usual restaurant.
Atlas followed Yan Yuehe, one in front of the other. Despite Pang Bao's jumping around, he couldn't find a chance to lick Atlas's butt.
The restaurant that Gou Qing found had a specially fenced-off dog park outside.
However, it was hot and not mealtime, so there was no one else besides them, and of course, no other dogs either.
Seeing that Gou Qing was about to untie the rope, Yan Yuehe was quite nervous: "Should we put them together? I'm afraid that Pang Bao will play around without restraint."
“It’s alright. Atlas is pregnant, so your baby will just stick close to it and rub against it at most,” Gou Qing said.
Yan Yuehe didn't understand: "Do puppies understand things like pregnancy?"
“It may not know that this is its species.” Gou Qing took the rope from her hand and neatly untied it. “But it will keep its distance from Atlas.”
Yan Yuehe was still half a step behind, following Gou Qing into the store.
The two of them sat by the window, and could see the dogs outside by turning their heads.
As Gou Qing ticked off items on the menu, Yan Yuehe kept her eyes on the puppies.
As Gou Qing said, although Pang Bao was excited, he always kept a safe distance from Atlas. His most excessive behavior was sticking his head out and rubbing against Atlas.
That's amazing.
"Hello."
Yan Yuehe turned around and looked at the man who had spoken.
Gou Qing held up the menu: "I've ordered. Do you want to add anything?"
Yan Yuehe waved her hand, not taking it: "That's enough, no need to add more, I can have anything." She wasn't really there to eat, and she really wasn't picky.
She hadn't eaten breakfast, but she was already past the point of being hungry.
Her long-term irregular eating habits quickly made her accustomed to the feeling of an empty stomach.
Gou Qing didn't say anything more, withdrew his hand, and picked up the pen again to make two more marks.
Aside from being related to her by marriage, he was a complete stranger to Yan Yuehe.
Gou Qing asked, "How do you plan to take care of Atlas?"
"Huh?" Yan Yuehe completely forgot what she had said before, but since her dog-like in-laws had made a request, she would try her best to fulfill it. "You can just tell me what you need me to do, and I can do anything."
Tsk, she'll do anything to win him over.
Gou Qing looked up: "To be honest, I can take good care of my own dog, I don't need your help."
Yan Yuehe nodded vigorously.
She also felt that she couldn't help; she couldn't even take care of her own dog son. Sigh.
Gou Qing: "So."
Yan Yuehe forced a polite smile and waited for him to continue.
Gou Qing slowly took a sip of water: "I will take care of the puppies in Atlas's belly. I won't leave them to you."
This means she wants to sever all ties with her son.
Given Yan Yuehe's financial situation and personal energy, she really couldn't raise a second puppy properly.
If Gou Qing insists on letting her raise the child, it will be a huge challenge for her.
But that was Fatty's puppy, and his only puppy.
Yan Yuehe gripped the glass tightly in her hand: "My dear in-law, you mean to deal with..."
“I might keep one with me, and send the rest to a dog shelter run by a friend.” Gou Qingwei frowned slightly, somewhat dissatisfied with her words. “Don’t worry, I won’t treat Atlas’s puppies badly.”
Yan Yuehe chuckled awkwardly, "That's not what I meant. You seem like a good person."
Gou Qing glanced at her but didn't reply.
The dishes were served one after another.
The kind-hearted Gou Qing pushed one of the plates towards the table: "It's their signature dish, sweet and sour and refreshing, have a taste."
Yan Yuehe had never worked before and didn't know what a boss's aura was like. She just felt that it was hard to refuse her in-laws' orders.
Survival instinct compelled her to obediently pick up some food, stuff it into her mouth, chew it, and swallow it, then affirmed, "It's quite delicious."
After about ten minutes of silence, Gou Qing put down his chopsticks: "Even if it's delicious, you don't have to eat only this."
"Oh, oh." Yan Yuehe really wasn't a picky eater. She ate whatever Gou Qing told her to try. When asked to try everything, she took a bite of each dish.
After finishing her meal, Yan Yuehe couldn't help but burp.
She was so full, it felt like the food was about to burst from her throat.
Gou Qing first put a leash on Pang Bao and said in a deep voice, "Hold on tight, don't let the dog walk you."
Yan Yuehe's face flushed red as she recalled the nasty fall she made when they first met, but she still wanted to defend her dog son: "Pangbao is usually very well-behaved, he only gets overly excited when he sees Princess Atlas."
Gou Qing, holding Atlas's hand, spoke coldly and distantly: "Then don't let it see us."
A note from the author:
Nongnong, pulling at the excited chubby baby, exclaimed, "Who cares!" [Angry]
