Chapter 50 Chapter 50 No Sickness
I had no idea how to taste the meal.
There were delicacies before them, but neither of the two people at the table had the heart to pick up their chopsticks. One had already eaten, while the other was fidgeting, distracted.
Xie Yi tried several times to persuade her to give up the idea of going to the clinic, but just as he opened his mouth to speak, Yun Wu looked at him eagerly. When Xie Yi met her dark almond eyes, the words got stuck in his throat and he couldn't say anything.
Has he been too indulgent towards her lately, allowing her to get ahead of herself?
When he left the restaurant, he couldn't think of a suitable excuse.
Seeing the long queue outside the clinic from afar, Xie Yi thought of another excuse and frowned, "So many people? You still want me to wait?"
Yun Wu smiled gently and said, "Don't worry, I've already asked someone to line up."
Coincidentally, after lunch, it was their turn to queue in front of Huichun Hall.
Xie Yi: “…”
Xie Yi: "I didn't eat well just now, let me go to the side and have a bowl of wontons."
Yun Wu held him back: "Watch it first before eating!"
Xie Yi: “…”
After a moment, he stared at the old doctor with a white beard opposite him.
Doctor He: "What disease does this young man have?"
Xie Yi said coldly: "I'm not sick."
Yun Wu hurriedly said, "My husband has been in poor health since childhood, a weakness he contracted from the womb. He's been taking medicine frequently over the years. Doctor, I want you to see if his condition has improved."
Doctor He glanced at the tall, ruddy-faced patient before him, speaking with such vigor, and said thoughtfully, "Stretch out your hand. Let me see it."
Xie Yi clenched his hands and didn't move.
Yun Wu: "Husband?"
"I suddenly remembered that Zhou Qing told me he had other things to do this afternoon." He started to stand up, but Yun Wu pushed him back down. He stiffly made an excuse, "If you don't go now, it will be too late."
Yun Wu felt as if every piece of his flesh beneath her palm had hardened to stone. She thought he was nervous in front of the doctor, so she coaxed him, "It will be quick. It won't delay anything. Just let Doctor He take your pulse. After that, you can go about your business."
Xie Yi: "I..."
Yun Wu softened her tone: "Husband, are you okay?"
Xie Yi suddenly shut up.
He slowly extended his hand, his mind working rapidly.
Doctor He placed his hand lightly on his wrist and felt his strong pulse.
Doctor He pondered for a moment, then asked him to change his hand, his brows slowly furrowed.
Yun Wu's heart was in a knot: "Doctor, is there something wrong with my husband?"
Doctor He withdrew his hand and asked, "No, this young man is in good health and not sick."
Xie Yi breathed a sigh of relief: "I told you long ago, I'm not sick."
Yun Wu still couldn't believe it: "Is my husband really well?"
It’s not that Yun Wu doesn’t believe in the medical skills of the two doctors.
But this matter is too bizarre, and other people might have doubts in their hearts.
It’s a very bad sign!
Xie Yi stood up and pulled her, pretending to leave: "Since the doctor said I'm fine, don't worry."
Doctor He stroked his beard and said with a puzzled look, "Just now, Madam said that your husband was born with a weakness?"
Yun Wu nodded repeatedly: "Exactly!"
Xie Yi: “…”
Doctor He pondered and said, "That's strange. I see your husband's pulse is beating strongly and he's in good health. He doesn't seem to have suffered from any weakness."
Yun Wu was stunned for a moment: "Never won?"
Xie Yi: “…”
Doctor He nodded. "I wonder which doctor you saw earlier? Did he take the wrong pulse?"
Yun Wu hesitated: "Yes...it's the live-in doctor at home. He always says so."
Doctor He uttered an "Ah," not knowing what he was thinking. He said tactfully, "I've observed your husband's pulse and it seems to be much healthier than that of an average person. It seems he's been practicing martial arts for many years to strengthen his body. I'm not very good at seeing things. If you don't believe me, Madam, you can ask a few more doctors to take a look."
Xie Yi: “…”
Yun Wu thought for a moment and then asked, "Not long ago, the doctor at home said that my husband's health has improved greatly. Is this the reason?"
Doctor He chuckled, "A person born with a weakness is like a broken bucket. Even if it's patched up, it can't hold a full tank of water. I can see that."
Yun Wu was half confused and half shocked. She took her husband's hand to thank the doctor, paid the consultation fee, and walked out of the clinic.
She turned around to look at Xie Yi, her almond-shaped eyes wide open.
Xie Yi: “…”
A drop of cold sweat slid down his forehead.
Xie Yi spoke with difficulty: "I..."
"Husband," Yun Wu suddenly asked, "Why are your palms so sweaty?"
Xie Yi broke out in a cold sweat: "I..."
"Maybe Doctor He made a mistake." Yun Wu looked at him and said softly, "There's another clinic over there. Let's go check it out."
What else could Xie Yi say?
I could only move my feet and was dragged into another clinic by her.
But no matter which clinic the doctor was from, they all gave the same result as Dr. He.
By the end, Xie Yi had calmed down.
Meeting his wife's suspicious gaze, he said with a wooden face, "Ah, the Buddha is truly spiritual!"
Yun Wu: "Hmm?"
"The old monk told me that I should marry you to bring good luck to my family. Sure enough, after you married me, my illness was cured immediately." Xie Yi suddenly lowered his head, covered his lips with his hands, coughed twice, and said weakly, "The wind is so strong today, I think I caught a cold again..."
Yun Wu said softly, "Then shall I take you to see a doctor?"
Xie Yi's hand remained stiffly on his lips for a moment, then slowly lowered it.
…
By the time the carriage reached the Duke's Mansion, Yun Wu had already figured out the whole story. The Xie family's third son's reputation for frailty was well-known throughout the capital, and almost everyone in the mansion had heard of it, even those within the mansion believing it. To accomplish this, someone must have been behind the scenes.
It should be Mr. Xie.
If Xie Yi wasn't ill, why would Lord Xie fabricate such a lie for him? And even team up with the palace doctors to cover it up?
And Xie Yi has a lot of skills. He has a smart mind and outstanding martial arts, but even his other two brothers are not very aware of it. Why would he deliberately hide his incompetence?
The Xie family is harmonious, and Madam Xie is tolerant and generous. She is definitely not the kind of person who would deliberately suppress a concubine's son just because he is outstanding. Given Lord Xie's painstaking efforts, he would never allow such a thing to happen.
Unless it was intentional.
Then... why did he declare that he was seriously ill and would not live long, and asked her to get married?
In order to deceive her, Xie Yi drank so much medicine in vain. How much of what she saw was true?
The servants of the Duke's Mansion witnessed a strange spectacle.
Their Third Young Mistress, who was always gentle and good-tempered and never even spoke loudly, was actually angry!
Xie Yi chased the man all the way from the gate of the Duke's Mansion to the door of the house. With a loud bang, the door closed and he was locked outside.
When Erlang heard about it, he came over to him and put his arm around his shoulders like a brother: "Third brother, I tell you, this is not a big deal. You'll get used to it after a few times."
Xie Yi looked at him, and for once, he took his opinion seriously. He humbly asked for advice: "What should I do at this time?"
Xie Fei had plenty of experience: "You hide first. She's angry, so stay away from her and don't offend her. When she calms down a bit, come back and beg for mercy on your knees. Say something nice. If you have some extra money in your pocket, buy her something she likes. I promise you won't dare to do it again next time. If you cause too much trouble this time, you'll have to sleep in the side room for a few more days."
Xie Yi's gaze drifted downwards, glancing at his knees: "Kneel?"
Erlangjun chuckled guiltily, then straightened his back again: "Kneeling to your own wife won't cause any harm. The important thing is that your attitude must be sincere! Your apology must be genuine!"
Xie Yi looked at him doubtfully.
But he did have rich experience, and Xie Yi listened carefully.
When the bedroom door was finally opened from the inside, he slipped in with Yun Wu's favorite snacks.
Put the snacks on the table first: "Madam, come and eat something first. You haven't eaten tonight."
Yun Wu did not respond.
Her slender figure lying on the bed looked as thin as a piece of paper, so fragile.
As soon as Xie Yi approached, she turned her back, facing the wall, and refused to pay attention to him.
"Madam? Madam?"
"Awu?"
Yun Wu said nothing.
Xie Yi glanced at the cold ground, hesitated for a moment, and slowly bent his knees...
"Get out." Yun Wu said in a muffled voice, "I don't want to see you."
I knew that Xie Er was unreliable!
He cursed in his heart, but there was no way he could go out obediently. He stood up and quickly approached the bed.
As soon as he touched her trembling shoulders, Xie Yi's heart began to beat violently.
He leaned over and turned the person over, and sure enough, he saw that she was in tears.
Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and her pillow was soaked. When their eyes met, Yun Wu bit her lip and turned her head away, not wanting to see him, but tears still fell.
She had been crying for who knows how long, perhaps ever since she came back. There were many things that made her sad, but today was probably the most heartbreaking one.
Xie Yi felt a prick in his heart and subconsciously slowed down his movements. He lovingly stroked her wet cheek, which felt cool to the touch.
"You're angry, hitting me and scolding me." Xie Yi pressed his forehead against hers and whispered, "Why torture yourself? It makes me feel bad too."
Yun Wu raised her eyes to look at him, then lowered them again in disappointment. Her eyelids were watery. She asked softly, "Are you still lying to me?"
Xie Yi felt a tightness in his chest.
"I have hidden some things from you, but this true heart of mine has never told a lie."
"You're even faking your illness."
Xie Yi sighed, squeezed into the bed, and pulled her into his arms: "This is a long story... Never mind, I'll tell you sooner or later."
