Chapter 88 Where to Sleep

The pressure exerted by the people of Yongzhou and Chen Guozhong was effective. Jing Zhe and Chen Mo were brought back to the government office, but instead of being sent to prison, they were locked up in a side room.

The day was quite leisurely. Lin Wenyao didn't show up again. When it was time to eat, someone would bring food. After eating and drinking to their heart's content, they could even lie in bed and take a nap. It was a very relaxing day.

Jing Zhe slept for a long time, and when he opened his eyes, he found that it was already dark outside.

When I looked at Chen Mo again, I found her pacing back and forth in the room, looking very serious.

"Miss Chen, you haven't been walking all afternoon, have you?"

"Miss Chen, stop! You're making my head spin!"

"Miss Chen, really, working here all day is worse than taking a nap!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Mo stopped, glaring at him angrily: "Take a nap? Where will I sleep? On you?"

Chen Mo felt extremely aggrieved at this moment. Jing Zhe had slept at her house last night, and with things on his mind, she hadn't slept well all night. She had also gotten up early this morning, and was already exhausted.

She wanted to sleep too, but the only bed in front of her was taken up by the man in front of her without saying a word. What could she do?

"Forehead…"

Jing Zhe then felt a little embarrassed, chuckled twice, and said, "Well... you can't blame me, can you? If Miss Chen wanted to sleep, she should have just told me. How am I supposed to know you wanted to sleep if you didn't tell me? And how could I give you the bed if I didn't know you wanted to sleep?"

"..."

Chen Mo was speechless with anger.

If he saw her naked, it was her fault; if he took over her bed, it was still her fault—Chen Mo even doubted whether a man who didn't know how to cherish women would ever find a wife.

"Okay, it's all my fault."

Jing Zhe nodded and said earnestly, "I forgive you."

"..."

Exhale, inhale...

Inhale, exhale...

After repeating this several times, Chen Mo finally calmed down his agitated mood, and when he looked at Jing Zhe again, he no longer had the urge to strangle him.

She had initially resolved to stop talking to him, but his calm and composed demeanor made her curious: "Aren't you worried at all?"

"Worry?"

Sitting up in bed, Jing Zhe stretched and said, "What's there to worry about? I don't know if Lin is filial or not, but I do know he has to set an example of filial piety for the people of Yongzhou. Mourning must last at least three days, so he won't have time to make things difficult for us these few days. Actually, we don't need to wait that long."

Jing Zhe glanced out the window; the sky was growing increasingly dark.

"I reckon my older sister and the others have already entered the city. They should be here to rescue us soon. What's there to worry about?"

"It seems you trust her a lot?"

Chen Mo tilted his head and said quietly.

"Yeah, of course I believe you! Haven't you heard of my sister and her gang in Jingzhou? They might not have the upper hand in a head-on fight against all the soldiers in the city, but sneaking in here to rescue us would be a piece of cake for them!"

"It's so nice to have a sister like that, isn't it?"

As if lost in thought, Chen Mo's gaze became vacant and bewildered, but the envy in his eyes could not be concealed.

"Yes, it's good."

He answered subconsciously, and then he was stunned: When did he truly put Lu Li into the role of his older sister?

Oh well, we're almost there anyway.

Shaking his head, Jing Zhe stopped thinking about it.

Chen Mo stared blankly for a while, then looked at Jing Zhe's satisfied expression, and felt that something was not quite right.

After thinking for a moment, he said, "You really trust your sister, and you even go to so much trouble to help her earn money. It's a blessing for her to have a brother like you!"

"I dare not accept such praise."

Jing Zhe said modestly.

To everyone's surprise, Chen Mo added, "However, I do feel that your sister isn't as sincere to you as you are to her!"

"???"

Jing Zhe was full of questions, wondering what Chen Mo meant by suddenly saying this.

"I have lived in Jingzhou for a long time and I think I have met all kinds of talented men and scholars, but none of them are as talented and resourceful as you, sir."

"It's alright, Miss Chen, you flatter me!"

He didn't know what she was trying to do, but such a barrage of praise made Jing Zhe a little embarrassed.

“This is not an undeserved compliment, but the truth. Unlike you, I do not lie; these are my heartfelt words.”

"..."

It sounds like a compliment, but why does it sound so awkward?

"Although Anguo is a large country, there are only two places where the literary style is most flourishing: Jiangling and Jingzhou."

However, compared to each other, Jiangling scholars were more refined and less ambitious, and their talents were often confined to their own limited perspectives, unlike the scholars of Jingzhou, who, as long as they possessed genuine talent and learning, could enter the court and enjoy a promising future!

"Hmm... what does this have to do with me and my sister?"

Jing Zhe scratched his head, looking completely bewildered.

"Therefore, someone as talented as you, young master, should go to Jingzhou. The imperial court is the stage where you can truly showcase your abilities. Yet your elder sister is desperately trying to stop you from going to Jingzhou. This clearly shows she doesn't want what's best for you!"

"Um...it's not what Miss Chen said. It's just that my older sister is worried that I'll be unfamiliar with Jingzhou and the officialdom is complicated. She's afraid I'll suffer because she doesn't want me to go."

For some reason, hearing Chen Mo say bad things about Lu Li made me feel uneasy.

"But she still doesn't believe you! With your intelligence and talent, who would let you suffer? If you don't go out and make a name for yourself, even in this small town of Yongzhou, you'll be bullied by a scoundrel like Lin Wenyao. Doesn't that feel frustrating?"

Being imprisoned in this place by Lin Wenyao made Chen Mo furious. In the past, who would have dared to treat her like this?

Seemingly understanding her grievances, Jing Zhe comforted her, "Don't worry, that Lin fellow will definitely not have a good ending. When I get to Jingzhou, I'll make him pay!"

Jing Zhe thought that once he went to live with his elder sister, the Prime Minister's daughter wouldn't be able to touch a mere fifth-rank prefect.

Chen Mo did not reply, thinking to himself that Lin Wenyao would be dealt with before they even had a chance to go to Jingzhou!

The atmosphere was a bit somber, so Jing Zhe changed the subject, saying, "It's getting late, why hasn't anyone brought the food yet!"

"Should I wake them up and bring you food?"

Just then, the door was suddenly pushed open, and a familiar voice drifted in on the cool breeze.
