Chapter 20

Chapter 20

However, Yunxi didn't plan to go out today anyway, since it would be too deliberate to bump into someone every day.

By sheer chance, she managed to escape a terrible ordeal.

She stayed indoors writing all day, and only quietly went out late at night to take a leisurely stroll in the yard.

The night was quiet, and the oppressive rules of the day vanished, leaving Yunxi feeling extremely relaxed.

After wandering around the backyard twice, she still craved this long-lost comfort, so she mustered up her courage and prepared to go for a walk outside the yard.

However, as soon as she reached the side door next to the annex, she saw a tall figure.

The man was dressed in a white and blue brocade robe, and his demeanor was as refined and noble as that of a banished immortal.

Yunxi recognized the man and quickly lowered her voice, saying, "This servant greets Your Highness."

Shen Rang's gaze fell on her.

The woman had a slender, curvaceous figure, and her fair skin was even more dazzling than the moonlight.

Shen Rang raised his hand to wake her up: "It's so late, why are you still outside?"

Yunxi got up, but still kept her head down: "This servant couldn't sleep, so I came out for a walk. I didn't mean to disturb the young master."

Seeing her so cautious, Shen Rang couldn't help but sigh, "Would I eat someone?"

Yunxi quickly shook her head: "That's not what I meant."

Seeing that she was still nervous, Shen Rang said, "I was just thinking of going out for a walk. If you can't sleep either, come with me."

Yunxi was startled and subconsciously looked up to meet his eyes.

His phoenix eyes were deep and unfathomable, making it impossible to discern his emotions.

Yunxi replied, "Yes."

Shen Rang strode out, with Yun Xi following two steps behind.

The moonlight was so bright that I could see the path clearly without a lantern.

Once outside the courtyard, Shen Rang could clearly feel the little maid behind him breathe a sigh of relief.

"Aren't you happy staying in the courtyard?" Shen Rang suddenly asked.

Yunxi was surprised that he would suddenly speak, and that he was even concerned about her. She was stunned for a moment before saying, "...No, no, I just feel that the evening breeze is very comfortable, like going back to the countryside."

As if struck by a sudden thought, a faint smile flickered across Shen Rang's face: "...That's really true."

Yunxi asked curiously, "Has the young master ever been to the countryside?"

Shen Rang gave a soft "hmm".

Yunxi was immediately surprised.

She thought that someone as noble and privileged as Shen Rang had never even left the capital.

As the night breeze blew by, Shen Rang relaxed his mind without realizing it and casually said, "When I went home today, my father gave me a list of people he wanted me to befriend. He meant that I should get in touch with them as soon as possible so that it would be easier for me in the future."

Yunxi raised an eyebrow, feigning curiosity: "What kind of people are those?"

“Yes…” Shen Rang pursed his lips, “…a person of high rank and great power.”

Hearing his words, Yunxi couldn't help but sigh: "It seems he's not the kind of person who's meant to bring peace to the world."

Shen Rang turned his head, his smiling gaze falling on the little maid: "Hengqu's four sentences are to establish a heart for heaven and earth, to establish a destiny for the people, to continue the lost learning of the past sages, and to usher in an era of peace for all generations."

This little girl remembers the beginning and the end, but she completely forgets the middle part.

“...This servant will remember.”

The young maid's cheeks were slightly flushed, and under the bright moonlight, she exuded a unique charm.

Shen Rang's smile deepened: "In your opinion, should we befriend these people?"

“Hmm…” Yunxi tilted her head. “I remember Father mentioning something about this before.”

"What?"

Yunxi frowned, and after thinking hard for a long time, she said, "Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together."

"...Your Highness, did I say something correct?"

The young maidservant cautiously revealed a tentative expression. Shen Rang looked at her, a dark light flashing in his phoenix eyes.

After a long while, the night breeze carried a very soft voice into Yunxi's ears: "You are right."

That's how it should fit.
