Chapter 28
Yunxi turned her head to the side: "Jixiang, go get your dinner first."
What she's about to do will likely affect her image in Jixiang's heart.
Jixiang nodded, curtsied, and turned to leave.
Only after Jixiang's figure disappeared did Yunxi reveal Doukou's indenture: "This is your daughter's indenture."
Granny Liu instinctively reached out to take it, but Yunxi pulled her hand back. Granny Liu immediately understood what she meant and just stared at her with wide eyes, but her expression was still full of suspicion.
Thinking that she might be illiterate, Yunxi said, "I brought Doukou with me and settled her in a nearby inn. You can go and see her tonight."
Upon hearing this, half of Granny Liu's doubts vanished, and she knelt down on the ground with a thud: "Thank you, young lady, thank you, young lady!"
Yunxi bent down and helped her up, softening her voice as she said, "I know it's not easy for you, and it's not easy for me either. Since that's the case, let's not make things difficult for each other."
"I spent five hundred taels of silver to bring your daughter out. You don't need to pay back the silver. Just pretend you didn't see it when I go out in the future, okay?"
“But Madam—” Granny Liu still hesitated.
She was used to being loyal to Madam Yun, and subconsciously she still put Madam Yun first.
"Don't worry, I won't let you do anything else. Just pretend nothing happened and continue guarding this door."
“I have Jixiang with me wherever I go, so even if something happens, it won’t cause you any trouble.”
Only after uttering the last sentence did Granny Liu's expression soften.
She stared at Yunxi and asked, "Is it just to keep watch here and make it easy for you to come and go, Miss?"
Yunxi nodded: "No one can know about this, and you have to stay here. Otherwise, I'll have to settle the score of five hundred taels with you."
Regardless of where the money came from, it came from her hands anyway. She had the intention, so it wouldn't do if Granny Liu couldn't reciprocate with something of equal value.
Granny Liu gritted her teeth and finally said, "I need to go check on Doukou first. If it's correct, then this matter is settled!"
A smile flashed in Yunxi's eyes. She told Doukou where she lived, then turned and left.
On her way back to the back room, her steps were exceptionally light.
With this door opened, she can come and go as she pleases from now on.
Even if her plans are exposed and Yun Wan tries to harm her, as long as that door remains open, she will still have a chance to survive.
Thinking of this made Yunxi even happier.
She made her way back to the back room, where Jixiang had already brought dinner.
She sat down at the table, ate a few bites, and then put down her chopsticks: "Jixiang, Young Master Jingyuan helped me so much today, I want to find an opportunity to thank him."
She should go and show her face to Chen Rang.
This reason was perfectly legitimate, and besides, in Jixiang's mind now, Yunxi was an overly honest and dutiful person, so Jixiang nodded without thinking: "We should indeed thank him... but Young Master Jingyuan is by the side of the Crown Prince, he should lack nothing, what can we do for him?"
Yunxi thought for a moment and said, "Why don't we cook together and make him a pastry?"
Jixiang's eyes lit up: "That's a great idea! Let's go over there in a bit!"
Jingyuan is not in the mansion during the day, but fortunately, some simple pastries don't take much effort, so they should be able to make them and bring them over before dark.
Yunxi smiled and nodded: "Let's do it this way."
Let's get right to it.
After the two finished their meal, Jixiang went to find Pearl again and learned that Shen Rang would not be coming tonight. Only then did she feel relieved and follow Yunxi to the main kitchen.
Yunxi didn't know how to make pastries, so she assisted Jixiang. Jixiang worked quickly and efficiently, and finished making the pastries just before dark.
Although it wasn't particularly attractive, Yunxi tried one and found it to be refreshingly sweet and delicious.
"Your cooking is really good," Yunxi said with a smile.
"I just figured it out when I was bored," Jixiang said shyly, pursing her lips. "Girl, let's go."
